Hello! Glad to see someone interpreted the theme the same way we did) The dialogue system is ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! Would love to make an RPG with such a dialogue system!
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD58 → Debt Collector

Hello! Glad to see someone interpreted the theme the same way we did) The dialogue system is ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! Would love to make an RPG with such a dialogue system!
Such potential for a game made by a single person, being able to punch people made me laugh
Very humorous. Very solid demo, could use better visuals but clearly a lot of effort was put in to make the dialog . Overall well done
Very funny game, but too empty location with lack of mechanics. Good prototype for further development.
Custom game engine? Nice job. I use a custom game engine, too, though mine is Javascript so I can do web deployments -- otherwise, I too would be using C++ as my language of choice.
I don't think it really needs to be said that this is a pretty basic experience. It's a jam game, so of course it is. Applause for what you got done.
@coda-highland Look into emscripten. It can compile c++ into javascript for web builds and is fairly simple to set up.
@someone I'm aware. :) I've known about emscripten since about 2012. But there are advantages to using web-native tooling. A really big reason is that I can make changes without needing to recompile, which is also why I'm not using TypeScript (which I like, and which I would be doing in a professional environment). I can inspect the running state of the code directly in the console and use the debugger without need of source maps. I can even hot-patch the running game to try things out.
That said, I have occasionally been tempted to use wasm in some of the performance hotspots like matrix math and collision detection. I've optimized the everloving heck out of that Javascript code, but I'm not so foolish as to think I can do better than a modern optimizing compiler.
very potencial and original, thanks!
Not sure if I broke something, I was constantly being chased by a crowd of people punching me. I like the interpretation of the theme!
I ran around like a mad man yelling Move Dammit to everyone. They seemed to be intimidated by that since I got the money from them. The only thing that I would have changed is the camera since it is inverted it broke my brain so I got into a spot I could see all the house when entering it and just used wasd to move around and didnt move the camera again. Super cool that you made this with your own engine.
For a custom game engine this is a fantastic entry. The dialogue system is very well done, although I wish the game would feature a bit more surroundings to make it feel less empty
Okay, let's start with the elephant in the room: I was very excited to read the instructions mentioning that you can _punch_ in this game - too few violent entries this jam around. I was punching the air, metaphorically. But then you enter the game, with itchy fingers, eager to punch, so you press Space _to punch_... and your character **kicks**. It took me a while to get over this disappointment. (Until around the second punch, which is actually a punch.)
Jokes aside, this is a very impressive entry. Simple but nice dialog system, a working storyline, surprisingly nice NPC AI, and it has great performance too for a 3D entry that runs in a browser.
I could not click on the dialog options in fullscreen mode btw, but it worked fine in the original embed size.
Very impressive entry, and appreciate the little logical consistencies ("don't interrupt me", punch a door down, "get out of my house" etc.)
Good game concept. It’d be great to expand the combat system — adding health and the ability to knock out characters would make it much more engaging.
I couldn't seem to click the dialog options, except once I may have told somebody to move, damnit! But 99% of the time clicking them seemed to do nothing. Then I pressed space thinking I'd jump and accidentally punched somebody in the face. Cool that you did this with your own engine!
The fact that you did a jam on your own engine is honestly pretty cool. That in and of itself is a feat!!!
As I saw those cozy little backyards, I already knew you're Brit; and then we looked into post-jam version.
The game cries about getting expanded w/ more assets (i could hear it through the door sfx), but the core gameplay is solid enough. Some more hit feedback would serve well for the first impression. The music made the experience surreal for good
The lads have five fingers per hand which is pretty accurate
The white background color dazzled me.
In the attempt to hide from those ai bodyguards I caught a bit of suspense waiting for them to find me eventually
As for dialogue, I didn't grasp the controls immediately but I like such experiments. Thanks!
Cool game! Moving the camera was counterintuitive and it was a bit hard to know what to do, but nice entry!
Although I felt quite confused while playing this game, I still want to say:
1. I noticed you specially made the animations of sitting down and getting into the car. It's really amazing that one person can create such a work!
2. The self-developed engine is so cool!!! I'm taking a computer graphics course this semester, and I'm almost driven crazy by it.
A little janky in some areas, but a impressive entry working solo using your own engine. The game runs really smoothly in the web build which is impressive. A think a little bit of money tracking/UI could be a small touch that could do a lot for giving the player a bit of progress feedback.
The engine is very impressive for a jam game! City + buildings + Doors + Multiple Layers + Dialoque + NPC Routines. Very impressive engine!
Gameplay-wise, I got a little stuck. I had a difficult time figuring out some things: - Who owes money? - How to get them to pay - How to open locked doors - How to enter or drive a car
With a little more legibility and UI feedback, this game has a ton of potential!
I got the henchmen beating the boss for 10 minutes straight. 10/10
