oh, a crypt
the game lacks innovation but is made nicely: sfx, textures, movement feels good overall but there are likely some collision issues: you can fall easily in the room w/ a pit
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD58 → Skullk

like said before, it’s really easy to fall without noticing that you will. Overall art and sounds are nice. Gameplay is pretty simple yet effective.
nice work
I liked the art and the sound. I wish there was a web version.
Besides falling near the end to the ledge I enjoyed it! I liked how you could always kinda tell where he was
I really love the retro graphics! I think the game was a bit basic, one easy thing that could have helped was just upping the movement speed and maybe allowing jumping for that kinda bunnyhopping boomer shooter feel. Nice work!
Nice entry. The first sight of a rotating skull after starting the game is well designed.
Interesting, I'm intrigued by the tech, especially since there's a .wad involved, what happens if I switch it out for the DOOM wad I wonder
Anyway, gameplay is a tad lacking, and I don't think LD game should require a controller really.
Level design was surprisingly good, spikes were a bit odd (sometimes hit me, sometimes didn't, not really sure how they 'work', I couldn't always just sprint over them).
@nnnnneeeedddd the answer is a hell(!) of a lot of errors if you try that. We wanted to be able to use some tooling so I wrote custom code to parse just enough of a custom map file, but uses our own logic for turning vertices into walls and a rather different approach to using that data to create 3D floor and ceiling models. The question you could also ask, is could you load that custom level as a custom map into a very famous game, and the answer is THAT would work.
Controller requirement is really weird considering this is a Ludum Dare entry AND a first person game on top. I don't have a controller, so I could not play. Shame, because it looked intriguing.
as soon as i boot, character looks up and just keeps jumping backwards until i hit a wall and then there's some spinning. Unplugging and re-plugging in the controller didn't help and clicking on the "help" button in the main menu just crashes. "Failed to run JVM" so, does Windows ALSO need java 21? Your instructions imply only mac and linux need java.
You have a very mature team! It would be even better if you could come up with more creative ideas
Has a nice ominous vibe, especially hearing those echoing footsteps as you're being chased. The level was pretty well made too, has a good bit of variety even with the limited assets.
i cant move or rotate the camera, no idea why that happens. i messed with the options and still nothing :(
Game looked good and had fitting audio for the graphics style, I do wish you had also added mouse and keyboard support, luckily I had a controller. regardless I had fun collecting all the skulls and avoiding the bad guy!
@b0guslaw @ty-victorson @myezko we started with controller and were plagued by a couple of really nasty 'works-on-my-computer-not-his' issues that we wanted to resolve over anything else, and meant by the submission hour we didn't get back around to adding mouse/keyboard support. Controller only on the submission I'm afraid
Simply lovely game, nice art and good style in general, music is on theme so it's good too. Good job
Amazing work! It’s super interesting and has a vert unique way to paraphrase the theme, good job! And welcome to give our game a try! :)
