Pretty cool tech demo! I'm impressed by what you accomplished over the weekend. Also, as a child of the early 90's, I love the aesthetic!

Cool that you made it from scratch! Art took advantange of the simple models and looked really nice. I didn't learn early enough the point of collecting coins so I stopped caring quickly. The bombs were very satisfying. Nice work!
@taximan981 I was worried people wouldn't get far enough to see the bombs! :smile: Thanks so much for playing! Seems like it's actually running for people!
Very impressive to make this from scratch for the jam. Runs perfectly on Linux through Proton.
"Made from scratch" is low key high key crazy
@varenka runs on linux?!!! That's awesome!! I guess proton has less to do with Vulkan than dx :thinking: Thanks for playing!
@brendan-aeria haha, cheers :smile: 'scratch'-ish, I wrote some vulkan wrappers beforehand (+ some audio stuff)
I wasn't able to get it running in crossover/bottles on macos, unfortunately (it throws an assertion after logging loading level1 at winevulkan/loader_thunks.c:6203 -- i.e. someplace in wine's wrappers), but I'll circle back on a windows machine. Very cool that you made something from scratch in the jam period, and I love to see folks using glm and sdl, they're great libraries!
Very Cool
Bro did you even sleep?? Great work!
my computer won't let me download it because it thinks it's a virus. I'll try again soon :thumbsup:
So so impressive!! This is what I thought everyone did for LD (before I learned how anything worked) so this is very inspiring! It was super satisfying to walk around and collect the gold, really nice juice. I did have a couple visual issues, some z fighting on the ground, and the enemies were invisible? Wasn't sure if that was deliberate or not but it was kinda a fun challenge, the particles were still visible! Awesome work!
Beautiful game. Great music. Simple, but challenging. Well, the last boss was anyway. I really appreciate how fast your greedy dude moves.
@Gat Thanks for playing!
@juanrod707 there was not a huge amount of sleep involved :sweat_smile:
@acartlidge Tysm! I resonate with that a lot, I think people used to use game engines a lot less when I started, but now seems to be de-facto :smile: I'm not sure why the enemies were invisible, I know there's z-fighting if you fly under the map, but the floor is only 1 plane, sounds like you had some whacky glitches going on :rofl: (it is a vulkan game, so updating drivers could make a genuine difference)
@eloc Thanks! That means a lot!! :)
Super neat game! really cool visual style. Collecting all the gold felt really satisfying. The final level took me quite a while. Overal just a really good entry and had a fun time with it :)
I like it! The rotund waddling main character was charming, and the gameplay loop was satisfying.
I am impressed. Everything is great here - visuals, sound, gameplay.
Cool game, simple but interesting
Love the character sprites!.
Aw, unfortunately, the game crashes on load on my system. Would have loved to give it a play.
funny. i love it
@patatje @budaniel @skale @youpz @eugenik @ilqim Thanks guys!!
@blazerker Yeah, I actually expected more reports like this, I suspect it's some unsupported Vulkan features or some such. Thanks for trying! :smile: (using very modern tech, for an extremely retro game haha)
This is such a fun game!!! The throwing mechanics are really simple to understand but work really well for both puzzling level design and combat!
On the second enemy level the 3rd guy didnt drop a key so thats where I got stuck. Lovely game though, really had fun playing it, deserves more ratings!
I lowkey wanna see this turn into a full game, really fun
@re-markable ah, yeah, if an enemy dies really close to a wall, it kinda clips into it, and can be hard to find, you can normally just about get it (but you have to know where it is :laughing: ). Thanks for playing!
@ericns haha, tysm!
Itโs a pity there isnโt a web version
I think what I liked the most were the controls. It's such a joy to control IMO and the idea is also really funny. I found really annoying that the tips at the beginning weren't things you could toggle off, but you had to walk away from./ Idk if that makes sense, but overall super fun!
@kapricorn-media tbf the tips turn off after the first level
Unless you mean the notes? Anyway yh,was quite hard to trigger info in a nice way within the time frame. Ideally should've had a button press to trigger/escape the scrolls
@nnnnneeeedddd exactly! Either way it's a really minor thing. Overall I had a blast haha
I really liked the visual style, but the gameplay is incredibly boring after passing the minions, you need to open the doors with keys, which gets boring very quickly, if you remove the keys it will be better in my opinion
@zowell It's worth noting. After you get to the minions it's not mandatory to collect the gold. I just wanted to make sure people got the mechanic before moving on in the early levels.
The bombs and the bosses are the part I'm most happy with :)
Great game and congrats for making it from scratch ! The atmosphere is nice, and the levels are well designed so that getting lost never feels frustrating
That was really fun. Seems I managed to miss some coins though. Works great on Linux with regular Wine too. The bombs were satisfying but I kept blowing myself up when the character was not facing the same direction as the camera. The rock pickup radius could do with being a bit more generous. It was not so easy to grab them when running from the minions. Also the scrolls covering the vision when you have to move away from them to close was not ideal. A great entry. Messing with Vulkan has been on my todo list for a while too.
@someone tysm for playing!! If you die each chest adds to the "total possible" gold on restart. So you can only 100% if you don't die. It's a bug, I suspect you did indeed find all the chests.
I would say all your points are spot on! Thanks for the thorough playthrough ๐๐
love the particles! cool graphics!
Fun little game with a very retro PS1 feel (ever play 40 Winks?). As others have said, it would be nice if the rock pickup radius was just a little bigger since it was sometimes tricky to grab them during the combat segments.
I appreciated the particle effects and the little bits of gold that slowly roll after you if you don't pick them up immediately. The little bits of humor in the notes was fun (I like to imagine the boss literally wrote "(bossfight)" at the bottom of one of them).
Fun little entry and extra impressive to be made from scratch!
