I also had a leaking roof during this jam so I feel you on that. The graphics, music, and sounds are all great! Don't beat yourself up too much on the gameplay part, this is a great starting prototype you could revisit to improve the enemies/use the health :) I also like the "you really hate bats for some reason" story, so could even further expand on that in the game too somehow.

@camcomduck Thank you so much! And boooo roof leaks. That should be the next enemy in a game of mine. Get OUTTA here!

But seriously thank you and yeah I couldn't think of another reason you'd be brutally wiping out bats that are literally doing nothing and it seemed like a silly way to use the weakness as a strength.

Thanks for playing and commenting! I'm looking forward to trying yours!

Sorry for the issues you had, but everything you did is pretty solid. The player movement feels good, the shooting mechanic is satisfying, the music and visuals are great. It's a great entry!

krummja 2025-04-08 03:14

This is really cute

sepjani 2025-04-08 03:15

it's small game, but I still enjoyed it!

soul-grinder 2025-04-08 14:36

Quite simple but fun to play. Needs some extra variety in enemy types and the fire rate and power could of increased by spending the coins you collect after each level. Good stuff though!

khaotom 2025-04-08 15:34

Bye bye bats. Good tunes

shadow64 2025-04-08 17:51

@gquibao Thank you for playing and leaving feedback! I'm glad you enjoyed what was there - very kind of you. I had a lot of fun playing Diggin' Deeper. You all did a great job.

shadow64 2025-04-08 17:53

@krummja Thanks again for playing! Frantic Focus was very charming and super engaging. I'm still thinking about how simple that mechanic is and with so much potential! You already have a great series of levels but you could seriously keep going. Really smart!

shadow64 2025-04-08 17:54

@sepjani Thank you so much! I tried playing The Offering Well - it looks great - on a couple browsers last night but my PC was really not having it. So I'm going to try to get to the Windows build today. Thank you for playing and leaving feedback!

shadow64 2025-04-08 17:55

@soul-grinder Thank you! Definitely needed variety and some kind of power up mechanic. I agree completely. Thanks for checking it out as is!

shadow64 2025-04-08 17:57

@khaotom You gotta listen to something to calm that rage! Even if it doesn't work. That rage is deep, after all. Deep like a cave. Like a bat cave. Are bat caves deep? I feel like Batman's cave was, so I'm just going to get all of my bat knowledge from a cartoon I watched as a kid. Deal? Deal.

dstoc 2025-04-09 03:19

Nice. Has potential. Even this much was fun. I don't like bats, but I do like coins.

shadow64 2025-04-09 03:37

@dstoc I knew my bat-disliking audience was out there. I could feel it in my frantic race to get literally anything in on time. Thanks for playing!

flinge 2025-04-09 08:16

Really interesting project. Technically, there's not much — but what’s there works really well. Even though bats don’t move, it’s still fun to play. The coin pickup sound is super satisfying. Nice project with potential.

buckmeister 2025-04-10 20:18

Nice mood and feel! It is simple, yet satisfying. Kudos!

shadow64 2025-04-11 04:07

@flinge Thank you for checking it out! Cave Escape was a lot of fun so I'm glad you enjoyed yourself here. All of my sounds were created in BFXR if you were curious - it's a free tool.

shadow64 2025-04-11 04:08

@buckmeister Very kind of you! Thanks for playing! And congrats on getting Dark Depths in!

vegeo 2025-04-11 05:00

Hey hey, creating and completing is something to be proud of! Seems you understand the major issues, those just being due to other problems and time constraints, so I'll just touch on a couple things that are here! I think the music is pretty good! It sounds nice other than the abrupt looping, but that's forgivable for this. But the other sounds can get abrasive with how loud and pitched they are, easy fix!

shadow64 2025-04-11 06:43

@vegeo Noted! And thanks for playing!

Sorry about the looping. Ugh. Not trying to pass the buck, but if you were playing the HTML build some of that may be due to how Godot handles sound in HTML exports. The Windows version uses an MP3 for the background music but HTML exporting requires OGG in order to loop. The Windows version is seamless, but the HTML one I just couldn't get it to line up before the deadline. May go back in and see if I can fix it but I try not to touch things after - even if this is really a porting issue.

As for the pitching, I would normally do a pass with an EQ to smooth things out a bit - will definitely do that if/when I update. Thank you!

whalejam 2025-04-11 21:58

Cute! I do like shooting bats and honestly getting anything polished in for a jam is an achievement, theres no 30 hours of gameplay here (I guess you could if you really hate bats) but what is here is really solid, feels nice and looks nice, so its great that you got it to this state, nice job ^^

adam-martin 2025-04-12 03:47

Good efforts. The shooting was solid, though some enemy movement would have ramped it up, even if just a little back and forth

shadow64 2025-04-12 22:49

@whalejam Finally got a chance to play through Shrimply Irresistible and I am now a proud crab lad. Thank you for playing this and the feedback. I would love to have taken it further (even just randomizing the bats or having them mercilessly move towards the player probably would have been enough) but I appreciate you saying what's there is solid and looks/feels nice. Thank you so much!

shadow64 2025-04-12 22:50

@adam-martin Thank you! It was a crazy time trying to knock this thing out, so I'm glad I made it under the wire. And I totally agree, just getting some kind of movement in there would've helped round it out. Thanks again for playing! I had fun with Steve the Smith!

jake-g 2025-04-13 00:45

For being a solo game, and having roofers show up  I'm impressed with how you managed your time to get a bit of all necessary elements. The sound is mixed pretty well, and the sound effects are cohesive. I love that 8-bit vibe. Same with the visuals, very cohesive. There's a full game loop, and it's a solid foundation that you could extend to add more features if you wanted. Thanks for posting your game, congrats on your submission!

shadow64 2025-04-17 06:42

@jake-g Thanks for the compliments! I'm glad you feel it turned out well! And yeah it has been a crazy time here lately so I'm just glad I got something in. Had a brilliant time playing your entry so I'm glad you got a chance to play this. Thank you so much. And congrats on finishing!
