Good game but I thik you should give active link to your game on itch.io or give dekstop build because on ludum dare I can't turn on full screen and because of that I can't see whole screen

slow-chaz 2025-04-08 15:56

what @online-play said. but I really love the character controller, it feels really good to move and jump around.

resty 2025-04-08 16:01

thanks, i removed the web version embed in ld website. itch link was provided already before, so things should be fine now.

Some issues with not being able to see the full game but overall it's quite fun. The character movement is very nice and fluid and definitely requires precision. Feel like the theme could have been more incorporated but overall great fun game!

yibirabbit007 2025-04-08 17:19

Hello! I found you through my game, please open the game at the itch link!

I'll be playing your game as well(:D

//I don't know how to set it up to reply below, sorry!

aynu 2025-04-08 17:43

Fits the theme perfectly nice!

buckmeister 2025-04-08 17:46

I really liked mechanics with the torch! Movement feels very nice. Good job!

logovostudio 2025-04-08 17:47

HTML5 link not working for me((

marudziik 2025-04-09 09:17

HTML5 link is not working, but I downloaded and ran the game locally.

I really like the torch mechanic. The controls could be a little bit more responsive (they feel a little bit slippery), because this is essentially a precision platformer, but I could get used to those after a while. I like that each level is a separate screen and that you restart the current level when you die.

Honestly feels quite good, the only thing it's truly missing is audio (even simple sounds make the game instantly pop). Otherwise, a great entry, thanks!

resty 2025-04-09 09:31

@marudziik thanks, it's my first time using itch, found it still in draft status before

yibirabbit007 2025-04-09 12:54

I'm here again! It seems like the characters are moving too fast, but it's a good exercise in my judgment

quail-weaver 2025-04-09 14:38

Really reminds me of N+ I used to play on DS! Neat little game though, and great job communicating the controls!

dot-ex 2025-04-09 14:47

19 attempts and 5 minutes :D What can I say, the game has nice controls, but the wall hitboxes for some reason have a life of their own: you can go a third of the way into the wall and nothing will happen, but some you just have to hit and you immediately start a new attempt.

deepd2eam 2025-04-09 17:41

smooth control, love the design of the torch. Hitbox is a bit wired but overall a fun game :)

jnur 2025-04-09 19:08

Finished in 4:18, with 13 deaths. I think the controls were reasonably tight and the idea of having to activate the torches to clear hazards was smart. Some jumps felt unfairly tight, but they would've been perfectly fine if they just had a few more pixels of leeway.

bene-labs 2025-04-10 10:57

Fun platformer with a very clever tourch mechanic! Controls felt pretty good overall, but I think having some control of the jump height would be nice.

patatje 2025-04-10 14:37

Really cool idea with the torches! Nice controls as well, makes it fun to speedrun.

zatrit 2025-04-10 17:49

It was really hardcore, but also enjoyable!

larsievl 2025-04-10 19:43

Really fun, There was one jump at the end however that i found to be significantly harder then the other jumps, the torch mechanic is also very cool!

sience 2025-04-11 13:42

Ok, collission is not perfect, but i like the jumping part that you fall down fast! Good start!

jhax 2025-04-11 19:56

Really liked the mechanics of lighting the torches to clear the danger areas. Really impressive considering it was all done while recovering from feeling sick! (Hope you're feeling better now!)

agraffs 2025-04-11 20:10

Simple yet cool. I liked the mechanics. Could become really nice if continued after the Jam. GG's !

python-b5 2025-04-13 19:26

Not a bad start! I ended up with 18 deaths. I like the torches clearing the way, though I'll admit I didn't immediately read the green dots as "danger" - maybe red or orange would be a more indicative color, though perhaps you didn't think those would look as nice. The controls were alright, but a little fast. The last long jump in the final level required me to jump after I was already off the edge, which didn't feel great. Lastly, while this isn't a huge issue, the binds when playing with arrow keys are not good. Space just doesn't really make sense in that context, and hitting Z while jumping with Space was pretty awkward. Z and X are the most commonly used action keys when using the arrow keys, so I'd recommend you use those and scrap Space entirely. The WASD controls seemed fine, as J and K serve a similar role as Z and X would.

Fun and unique game!

miroreflect 2025-04-16 21:24

The torch lighting mechanic to turn previously unwalkable areas walkable was neat and it felt really nice when some areas that were previously difficult to navigate were suddenly easy to move around in.

Liked playing the game and if you're planning on working on this game further or exploring the mechanics further I'll be interested to see where it goes!

cassowary 2025-04-24 04:54

Nice! I beat it in 4:25.548 with 18 deaths. I think the torch mechanic clearing out the death areas was interesting.

Tthe graphics used very few colors in nice ways. I think you could have gone even further with this concept and, for example, made the torches the same color as the player and the platform as well.

There were a few really tight jumps late in some levels which felt a bit cruel, haha. But overall the platforming physics felt really nice and there was some clever level design especially in the last level. Nice job!

The game made me angry at many points, because not having checkpoints is very punishing. On the other hand, it was quite challenging and kept me engaged.

I wish there had been some kind of music to help keep me calm while I tormented myself trying to complete the stages.

It’s not exactly a huge innovation, but I found it pretty unique and interesting to have this mechanic of lighting the torch to unlock movement in the stage.

I didn’t really notice much of the theme within the game — it was mostly the title that referenced it, due to the graphic style and the kind of passive narrative it conveyed.

The visuals are fine considering it's a game jam title — actually, the green contrasted well and began to suggest an interesting narrative.

The atmosphere, because of the lack of music, felt a bit lacking. I would’ve liked to experience more immersion and psychological tension (even if the game didn’t focus on subjective exploration).

I think it’s a really cool experimental game that could be expanded into something with more stages—maybe even start a journey from the return out of the Abyss and then branch out into new horizons (like exploring a new apocalyptic world, foolishly believing it was still the same world or the same time after coming back). Just daydreaming here. Congrats!
