There is something about the sound effect when clicking on things in the menu that is sooo satisfying. I also really like the animations in this game.

2024-10-08 01:36

from what i played it was fun but before even defeating the first level the game just didnt want to load anymore not sure if thats just me

dougt 2024-10-08 01:44

I wish there was music, and maybe a cute little animation of my elementals during battle. I like how they were your resource and health, and mana, and the idea that you could take care of them between battles.

The between battles segment was extremely chaotic, and I had no idea how to actually take care of my little dudes. Luckley they didn't seem to mind the neglect, so I battled a little more.

The first time I played part way through the first encounter, my option to act didn't come back, and i was soft locked.

t-c 2024-10-08 01:51

@dougt do you remember what the last thing that happened in the combat before the softlock? I've done a lot of battles and haven't gotten any in awhile, but know it can happen so I'd like to see where I messed up.

@nehe can you elaborate a little? What didn't load? Did the screen turn black, freeze, or what? That's a weird bug!

2024-10-08 01:55

I like the idea of taking care of them and think if it was a little more *pretty* I would have fun with that. (sparkle when clean or a thought bubble with a smile to show they ate/played and are at 100%). I wish that there were more damaging abilities in battle or something to make it a little less daunting when doing 8 damage with your basic attack and are exhausted. Before a battle I bought a bunch of eggs and just went straight in without letting them hatch.

hangovergames 2024-10-08 02:28

Go Go pokemon! Great concept and realisation.

2024-10-08 02:35

@dougt yes the game just didn't load anything after one of my attacks

sirblazealot 2024-10-08 12:08

This is a really cool game! I felt like there was some real strategy involved with the battling and the looking after them in between was fun too! I'd be interested to see this fleshed out in the future

kilig 2024-10-08 12:19

It’s a pretty novel twist on the classic Pokémon formula! I really like how certain moves depend on how many creatures you have left. Some background music and a bit more explanation on caring for your creatures between battles would’ve helped, but overall, I like it!

sviborg 2024-10-08 14:14

The concept of taking care of your elementals between battles adds an interesting tactical element. The sound effects when you click on the menu are just awesome! 🎶 The animations are also very impressive! 👏 I would like a little more music and variety in the battles, but despite this, the process is exciting and fun! 🥳 I hope the developers continue to develop this idea, as it has great potential! Great job! 🌟

t-c 2024-10-09 03:16

@raymond-bourke thanks for the comment and thanks for playing! I like the way the animations and sound (what little we had) came together on this one.

@dougt a shame! I've not been able to replicate the bug but if you have any feedback on how you got softlocked, I've love to know for future reference. Thanks for checking out the game!

@hangovergames Thanks for playing! Yet another game where the concept felt great but the realization didn't really feel like it came together until the final hours.

@sirblazealot thanks for the kind words! Yeah It's tough making a jrpg system feel like what you do matters, I'm glad this actually has some of that feel. Nice name and profile pic

@kilig Thanks! The combat system was interesting to try to put together and make it feel like it has some unique elements. Music, sound, and tutorials always get neglected in our games until the last minute, since it took up until the last 15 minutes before submission for the programming part to be done  ! Maybe next jam!

@sviborg Yeah, I liked how connected the two games ended up being. Though it's tough to see, entertainment/hunger/hygiene all change how good your creatures are in combat! And the limited gold in between makes you have to prioritize. Definitely agree with the lacking of audio, and some more variety. Only had so much time to add interesting enemy effects before the game just had to be made! Thanks for the comment and the kind words.

beeb-gamecodecompany 2024-10-09 21:54

Glad someone made a Pokemon game, I was surprised to not find one during the "Summon" LD last time lol. Pretty decent game, I like the idea of battling and pet raising. I tried 3 different playthroughs and got to the 4th battle I believe then lost. Sorry I didn't make it to the end. Music was the main thing I thought was missing.

t-c 2024-10-10 01:39

@beeb-gamecodecompany Hey thanks for playing! I appreciate knowing people out there try to finish games. It's my go-to, but some games I just can't finish! But I definitely try each one. Thanks for putting in the effort! Definitely agree on the music.

kadokta 2024-10-10 02:17

Wow, this game has quite a lot of content for such a short jam. I didn't quite understand the different creature types, which seems like to add a lot of complexity. Regardless, well done!

koolruz 2024-10-10 02:26

I thought the idea of using your creatures as a resource in battle was really cool, but I felt like I was definitely missing something about how the tiny creatures worked during battles - I feel like it would have been useful to have a HUD with more information about my creatures (how many were active, wounded, etc), so that I could make more informed decisions about when to use my special abilities. As it was, I felt like I was kind of flying blindly and hoping that (eg) my healing abilities were being used wisely.

Overall, I think there could be something really cool here though!

kanity 2024-10-10 11:20

Ah it really is like Pokemon!

I thought it was nice. Cool idea to incorporate the theme, and make the creatures visual a series of dots which also, I can imagine, helped finishing the game faster (art takes a lot of time, I should know!)

I suspect you probably didn't have time for that, but I am kinda missing the music :( it feels so quiet.

When I realized I am using specific-colour creatures to make a special attack, that made me a bit sad. It seems they completely disappear from that, poor things :( Even though they can be "restored"

I was pleasantly surprised there is time to hang out and check on them between the battles, though! That's cute ^^ Though the mechanics there are a bit confusing to me. I couldn't quite figure out HOW do I feed and clean them, even though I read the tutorial >_<

skleembof 2024-10-10 15:19

That was a unique twist on Pokemon but I think the exhaustion mechanic makes the game way too difficult. If every time you attack or take damage you either lose creatures either through death or exhaustion, you will always do less damage than the previous turn and you will get weaker as the fight goes on, making every fight increasingly difficult.

Maybe I didn't play enough to fully explore the mechanics but the combat mechanic exhausted me and I only got to the 2nd fight before giving up. I actually did the first fight multiple times because the game softlocked on my first attempt and I went back to try and recreate the glitch.

I managed to recreate the softlock 3 times and I think it has something to do with the airship attack. When I use the air balloon attack and then the skull attacks me the game would softlock. It didn't happen every time so maybe it depends on the follow up attack (don't remember which attack move caused it). Also I always picked the 3rd team (the one on the right) if that matters

t-c 2024-10-10 17:28

@kadokta Thanks for playing! Each type of creature has an element, and the special skills you can use depend on how many of each element you have. So what skills you have available and how many times you can use them depend on which creatures you have. Hope that helps!

@koolruz A hud is a great idea! I did want some information to be not-100%-clear to the player, but there certainly were many times where knowing more information helps a lot! Thanks for playing and for the kind words.

@kanity Definitely making them dots helped move the game along  - they were originally a placeholder, but we kept them in for time purposes. Same, unfortunately, with the no music. Definitely feel it would have been better with. When you use special attacks, they just turn a less-bright color :) They're still there and contributing and healthy! Yes, the tutorial on the in-between-battles was a little tough to figure out. You could buy items from the shop that would appear in the feed/play/clean tabs. Say you buy an apple from the store. Click on the Feed tab to see all of your food. Click and drag the apple to the ground and nearby creatures will eat! Thanks for all the feedback and taking the time to write so much. It's greatly appreciated!

@skleembof Luckily, you don't lose any creatures when exhausted. They still contribute to all damage, just not 100%. Maybe closer to 80%. So the damage is less, but not totally less. And your next basic attack brings some of them back from exhaustion, so it's a bit of a cycle of what you use and when. So I think not fearing to use what abilities you have available will help :) Also, you charge up your ultimate move by exhausting then restoring your creatures, so you get a great finishing move for doing so! -----Thank you very much for trying to recreate the softlock! No one on the team has been able to, so it's really tough to figure out why it's happening. So all information is appreciated! The teams that you're offered are just different arrangements of elements. Each time all 3 are randomly generated, but you can kind of guess what color is the majority, and what color is barely there or missing, since that's how they're built. Thanks for the feedback and taking the time to write all that, it's appreciated!

sodagummy 2024-10-11 13:07

The art is really pretty! I love the little animation of the tiny creatures moving about during the combat scene hehe. I think it's cool that we get to use the different abilities based on what creatures are left in our little squad! My strategy was to pick the bunch with a majority of one type and spam those attacks. I love the post battle view of the tiny creatures moving about! Super cute hehe :D. Cool that all the enemies have animations! The stats concepts were super interesting, though I would like a way to view what the current stats are during the battle. Love the creature designs! I wish I had more money to take care of the little guys a lot of them seemed hungry TwT. The creature names are cute too hehe. It was a little hard to tell which creature was being cleaned in the post battle scene cause the cursor kept switching between creatures but it seemed to be working anyways hehe. In the later battles block spamming seemed to be the strategy between actions lol OOO nice animation for ultimate attack. I think some energetic battle music for the fight and chill relaxing music for post battle is all this game really needs hehe. Overall it is a very impressive game especially considering the time constraint, the UI is clean, the concept is a refreshing take on turn based combat, the art is lovely. Keep up the incredible work, and all the best for the jam!

zoglu 2024-10-12 08:34

Interesting concept, I love the idea of managing the different creature types with Pokemon-style battles. Nice work on the graphics and animations too !

dropmania 2024-10-12 09:33

Really cool game! I like the turn-based combat. And the game is surprisingly in depth for a Game Jam game. I'm only missing some music in the fights. But other than that it's a great entry! Great job!

saumon 2024-10-12 18:29

Great job! It has so many contents as a jam game. The art is excellent too!Although it was a bit confusing and hard for me before I figured out how to play it. It is a really good game.

t-c 2024-10-13 05:06

@sodagummy Nice strategy! With the way the game is balanced at the moment, having a bunch of one type seems like the best! Yes, viewing stats is definitely a popular request. Although I did initially want the concept of the "tiny" creatures being that you couldn't know each individual's stats, cause they're a small blob, I think more information in combat is necessary! Also, money balancing was a bit tough. I agree that having more money for items, or more items in general, might be good for the feel of accomplishment tomogatchi games give. Definitely also missing the music, but only so much we can do :) Thanks for the long feedback and kind words, it's appreciated.

@zoglu Thanks for playing and for the kind words!

@dropmania Thanks! Music is definitely the biggest thing we couldn't fit in for sure. The music never got made so we could focus on getting as much in as we did :) Thanks for checking the game out!

@saumon Right, we kind of just drop you in without a tutorial to ease you in. Definitely could have done that part better. But thanks for sticking with it and figuring it out. Thanks for playing!

daniel-finch 2024-10-14 10:47

Having music and more sounds would have really made this game immersive, as well as a unique character design for the little creatures from the beginning. It's a shame because the story, gameplay and enemy art are so strong! `good effort!

eranot 2024-10-14 11:57

Liked the twist with the elements, although I whish they were prettier haha

mavvy 2024-10-17 00:51

This is a fairly realized Pokemon battle system and digital pet game! Brought me back to watching my friends playing Pokemon Ruby and ironically a bit of Digimon.

I absolutely adore the aspect of taking care of cute battle-hardened monsters. Buying entire pizzas and toys for them before and after fighting some big bads is entertaining. The monster designs are cute, but they only show their true colors (or shapes I suppose) in the digital pet part! I'd love to see these cute little guys rip up my opponents. I'd love to hear a more full audio landscape too, as it feels a little lonely without sound.

You didn't have a lot of time, but you did have a lot of moving parts to put together and vitally, it works! I love how the separate parts of the game inform and interact with one another while keeping a comprehensive UI that doesn't get overly complicated or overwhelming. I have a lot of feelings about Tiny Creatures, and I enjoyed my time with it!

t-c 2024-10-17 23:28

@daniel-finch yes, definitely agree with the music and sounds. A very important aspect of any game! Thanks for playing.

@eranot Thanks for playing!

@mavvy One of my most fond memories is staying up late one night making butter noodles watching my brother play Wind Waker. Being brought back to memories like that is always nice :). Definitely agree on the battle art part, but that would have taken significantly more time than what we had, sadly. Definitely the game feels barren without many sounds or any music. Sadly common for games we make for these jams. Thanks for taking the time to play and write up your thoughts. It is much appreciated!

jpatrick 2024-10-21 02:46

Impressive level of polish for a jam game, and nice art. Great work :)

savi 2024-10-25 00:08

It reminds me of an old game I used to play a few years ago, it gave me a nice feeling of nostalgia, I want to see where this game or even the future projects will end up, good luck!
