70 is my best  Nice game and with hardcore vibes.

You should definitely develop the idea, it might grown into a nice indie project.

Quite hard core difficulty with one hit one kill. Got around 50-60 on multiple tries. Visual style was nice with very readable attacks. Controls were little stiffy (not sure how to describe this but felt little stuck when jumping around) but overall nice game.

Thnks for the feedbacks \o/ ^^

flancon 2023-10-02 18:27

That's really cool ! The graphics are nicely done, the music is really enjoyable, and fits well ! But it gets easy when you see that you can be a machine gun xD Well done !

plepletier 2023-10-02 19:27

@flancon kkkk Yes, I didn't have time to refine the attack and adjust the fire rate well! ><

homero 2023-10-03 00:43

Very fun and challenging game! Art, music and effects are well combined, congratulations!

candlesan 2023-10-03 02:15

This was fun! I love the art style and I really like that you implemented both a nice double jump and the subtlety of aiming bullets that curve downwards is really neat. If I had a small feature request it would be for the music to not restart so abruptly between rounds since I played so many times over and over I had to listen to the music restart so many times :)

rubatotree 2023-10-04 09:37

Retro style art and animation are excellent!

As Flancon said, becoming a machine gun makes the game much simpler with XD

Perhaps limiting the capacity of a magazine would be more effective than controlling the damage of bullets?

The control of the game can be further improved ("I should have jumped on it!"). Perhaps using a physics engine for platform jumping games is not always a good choice:(

martin-bousquet 2023-10-04 12:23

Cool idea but it's very frustrating. I die a lot and I don't want to see the intro screen each time, just let restart quickly, and don't restart the music! Also it's a strange choice of keys, not very practical. Apart from that, it's fun and the art style is very good.

plepletier 2023-10-04 14:27

@rubatotree Yes, you're right. I should have done it differently, creating my gravity control instead of relying on Unity physics. But I was worried I wouldn't finish in time, and it might lead to movement bugs and getting stuck. Thanks for the feedback!

plepletier 2023-10-04 14:32

@martin-bousquet Yes, the last point I made was about the music and the game loop. I should have approached it differently. I don't know how to create music, and I spent a lot of time on beepbox.co/ trying to make the theme music, which left me with less time to fine-tune the game loop and the mood. Thanks for the feedback!

Tough as nails, but a good start. It definitely gets across the desperate struggle of gnome survival :p

I feel there are some minor tweaks that would make it more fair.

For example, shaking the pillar a lot stronger when it's about to go down (or some other clear indicator), since cracks are not the most reliable way to tell. I think some pillars spawn with cracks, which makes it more unreliable.

Also, would be nice if new gnomes spawned higher up so you can react to them better. I had them spawn inside me while I was jumping, which isn't the best suprise xD

oter 2023-10-04 20:54

As others have said, with some tweaks this will be a really fun arcade-style game. You nailed a pretty smooth flow to the overall game (though as someone said, an even faster restart would be appreciated), so that I wanted to keep going and see how high a score I could get (good touch to show it on the title screen) or how long I could survive.

I played maybe a dozen rounds (or slightly more, they go quick), and in that time there were two rounds where an enemy immediately spawned right above me so I had an instant restart. So a temporary exclusion zone for the enemy spawner (or just having them spawn higher so I have time to react), might be another helpful tweak for the game.

This is a hardcore game! I really wanted to get better at it so died in a variety of ways: to a gnome falling on top of my head, after sliding from a platform even though I was standing perfectly still a moment ago, and because you can't change your direction mid-air (which makes the game even harder giving how few platforms there are).

I love how the game looks with it's retro graphics and audio! Great job!

quasilyte 2023-10-07 05:39

My best score was 85.

It's hard to play because an enemy can drop right on top of your head and end your run. :D I don't know if there is a way to know beforehand where will they spawn or not. My reaction is not fast enough to jump away when I see them after the spawn.

As for the game, it has good music, simple but stylish graphics, fluid controls for a platforming game. Is double jump a bug or a feature?

What is your highscore in this game? I see 135 in the screenshots.

cheesepencil 2023-10-09 00:15

210 !!

Pretty happy about it. As far as I can tell, there isn't a reason to use the mouse except that the shoot button is bound to it. Maybe I missed it, but it would be nice if I could have played with just keyboard alone.

fizzbark 2023-10-09 04:40

Nice little game, I managed to get a 180. A little more feedback to indicate which blocks are about to fall would be nice - unless you are watching very closely it's hard to know when you absolutely have to move. A bit more differentiation in the player character sprite also would help. The stark colors of this game work really well - very cool aesthetic.

goddzeproject 2023-10-09 12:11

It was hard to play! Everything is a danger! Nice

pikario 2023-10-09 13:28

Good game :) Love the nose animation x)

The timing of the column falling is a little hard to grasp, but well done!

pincushion 2023-10-14 16:13

This is fun and frantic. The controls feel smooth. The look and feel is spot on. The platforms give good feedback as they're breaking, but it would be nice if they gave a little bit more right before they were going to break.

I like how the start screen transitions in and out of the game, but I wish I could dismiss it to restart the game faster. The game is pretty short and when I die I want to get right back to it. (so, if there was an addictive category, I'd rate 5)

noya 2023-10-17 23:32

The graphics and music are well done and create a unique style and vibe. 😊 I appreciate that you implemented an AI and also the little detail with the bending path of the arrows. I played a good amount of rounds, but my highest score was only 130. While it felt like a high precision platformer, I had some frustrating moments with the controls: Tapping a key once would move me a little bit instead of just turning around, which was quite deadly on small platforms in combination with the slippery edges. Also sometimes a gnome would spawn from above when I was mid-jump, which felt pretty unavoidable. I would definitively come back to beat my high score if the controls would get some polish! 💜
