Took me a few tries until I noticed the monster comming to the light. First it did not make a sound when approachting ^^" I almost fell out of my chair when discovering it ^^"
Looking at the screenshots, I can see that I did not make it that far yet. Although I had fun playing your game, I did not go very far.
I like the graphics. I think that is impressive for a compo game. I did, however, think there should have been some background music. Right now its mostly ambient music.
Well done! I see that this is your first 3D title, or am I mistaken?
I'll come back to rate, once ratings are opened.
@wouter52 Yep first 3D game...it was quite the endeavor.
Really enjoyed this game! I love horror games especially when darkness is involved. I was very worried to walk around and kept jumping back into the light. Good job overall!

This had a atsmophere of a genius design! I absolutely loved it. Honestly speaking, the gameplay wasn't much of a thrill for me, but I didn't really care. I was invested in the darkness and light, I enjoyed walking towards the corners that were not even meant to be accessible hoping to find something haha. It was quite scary and mysterious and I loved it. I'm also quite happy with the no-music take as the footsteps alone give it even more mystery and atmosphere.
Very moody, despite (or maybe even because of?) the basic sound effects. Nice use of volumetric fog, too!

The athmosphere of the game was really super. I liked the orange lights and volumetric lights, the village looked cool. I was getting around but got lost very easily and could not get back so gave up in the end. Some minimal lightning from time to time would have helped I think to be able to navigate better. Anyhow great entry, congratulations for the submission.
The atmosphere was on point! I got to the dungeon, but never figured out how to open the gates or avoid the monster outside (long enough to put coins in the chest). It could have used a little more instruction, as I wasn't sure where the inventory system came in, or how items worked. But it was super cool exploring and feeling lost in the level design.
I like the use of lighting. There were some times where I got lost in the dark before I figured out how to use the lantern. I went into the tower and found the locked basement, but I think the monster inside figured out how to get out and kill me :skull:
Unfortunately even the compiled linux version had some performance issues with the light, especially in the room where you pick up the lantern. I made it to the second sublevel where an enemy spawned right in front of me and I didn't have a way of bypassing it, as I used my only bolt before. It has flaws which are very forgivable for a compo game, especially, as I read, for your first 3D. I think with some work you can turn this into a solid short horror game.
@laserpanzerwal Thanks for the feedback! That slow down is on all platforms as I didn't have time to optimize the sfx when you take the lantern out...so all the wavs load and play across the map.
I loved the atmosphere. I noticed the monster didn't move until I lit my lantern, so I thought I would collect treasure in the dark, lighting the way here and there. I got lost, so I got more aggressive with my lantern. At some point I turn back to see how far away the monster is from me, and I notice there's three of them and I am cornered. That was so good!
I noticed that some collisions with the doors in town caused stuttering.
I suggest to tell the player in some way that there is monster that follows the lantern. Maybe a drawing on the wall inside the cabin where you get the lantern? Also, I don't know if it's intended, but the monster groans after I put the light away. I lost out of nowhere in my first playthrough and I couldn't tell why because of that. The hit sound effect also plays after I press "return to menu". I'm playing on windows downloaded from itch.
Overall, I got some good frights out of this game and I always appreciate that from a horror game. Nice job!
I had some trouble with the web build (couldn't look behind me or downwards) but it looks cool and has a big mood!
I had fun playing it. The first 4-5 tries I did not even understand why I was losing, then I saw the monster and I almost fell off my chair  The only problem that I experienced was that (for some reason) when I was turning the lantern on I had big spikes of lag and it was even worse when I was turning on the lantern while I was inside a house (or in general inside a building). As I see from what others are saying I understand that I did not manage to get that far into the game, but I liked the idea and the creative touch about the theme! Good job my friend! Keep up!!!
