The dog is very nervous and that's a good point but game was to bugged.

Sorry

mnemosynevl 2023-05-05 17:27

I liked the idea, unfortunately it's not in playable state. But I can see the potential.

rocket-and-blanky 2023-05-05 17:35

I got 15k points before I quit. I wasn't sure if the packages were gonna spawn forever. I liked getting the hang of the character controller and the arrow system worked well. Fun game!

batisdark 2023-05-05 18:46

Camera was a little bit too sensitive and it would jump through the landscape - made it difficult to control at times. And speed boosts were more as a curse than buffs to me... made controling doggie even harder. It was especially obvious on those ramping roads where it would bolt down because of the speed buffs!

Score was in the middle of the screen (which was obstructing view a lot) and camera was much closer to the dog for me, so I had to push it up and down to see where arrow is pointing... if there controls to control zoom - I missed it...

The idea of a delivery dog is nice, but I think there were too many parcels to handle (as I understand we need to deliver them all?) and gameplay was repeatative - so it became boring after like 15k... probably smaller amount of parcels would make it feel better.

It was fun for a few minutes, but unfortunately the hypersensitivity of the camera combined with the unruly character controls made the game quite difficult to play. I think the wide swerving of the dog could be refined into some very fun and unique controls, but in its current state it's simply difficult to appreciate.

This is a fun idea! I love the concept of dashing around as a greyhound and essentially speedrunning between locations, launching off of ledges, and finding the most efficient paths to the next delivery point. You've designed an impressively large map for a jam weekend, and the controls work pretty well in general. Regarding controls, @batisdark noted an important point that speed can sometimes be more of a hazard than a benefit, so maybe in the post-jam version you could make the turning more responsive as your speed increases (or maybe even let you lean into the turn as you take a sharp corner, like you would on a motorcycle).

One thing I'd love to have is a jump ability to either long-jump over gaps or scramble up ledges (almost parkour-style like Mirror's Edge freerunning). Great work on this one. Do you have any plans to expand this idea after the jam? I'd love to play more of your future iterations.

@chompdev Thanks for your thoughtful comment.

I had very little time to work on this jam and I gave up multiple times but after slapping together the map and being impressed with how it came out, I decided to at least try to deliver something playable, and I was just barely able to upload before the time limit.

So it's riddled with issues, and isn't much of a game right now, but I am working on some simple bug fixes to address some of the issues like the sensitivity.

I do plan on developing it further for the (conveniently timed) upcoming 32Bit Spring Cleaning Jam on itch.io, so the plan now is to have a finished game by the end of the month.

@skleembof - That's really cool that you're going to keep working on this during the next jam! I'm looking forward to playing more, so definitely drop me a message here if you have time after the next jam. I know exactly what you mean about running out of time and having to cut features on the last day, but thankfully you were able to pull together a pretty fun set of mechanics and map design here. Good stuff!

boytoycomrade 2023-05-06 05:59

the concept has potential but as I see you need a bit more time for a proper execution. controls feel a bit off hand and location is too big. I personally would add some backstory but that's the matter of taste. Nonetheless thank you, I feel how much work has been done!!

gog 2023-05-06 08:56

Very interesting idea! I liked the gameplay but it seems unfinished.

nion 2023-05-06 14:13

Once I delivered a couple packages, I eventually ended up just exploring the map since it was just a very cool level. Kinda reminded me of crazy taxi or something. Really nice old school vibe :) I think with a little more time there's something like a vibe runner in there.

frozenfire92 2023-05-06 14:15

A fun idea that has some potential if you wanted to continue on with it. I really liked the ps1/n64 style graphics and theming, it worked quite well. The camera was incredibly annoying how it constantly rotated around the dog, that's fine for when I'm stationary but bothersome once I'm moving. I got to around 12000 points before stopping as it seemed like the packages just kept spawning. Overall a good entry, keep on making games

skleembof 2023-05-06 15:34

@frozenfire92 the camera definitely shouldn't be rotating around the dog. Can you tell me if you played the web build or used a gamepad? I released an update last night that fixed some bugs and I thought I addressed the camera issues

frozenfire92 2023-05-06 17:05

@skleembof web build and with a gamepad, seemed to happen on mouse/keyboard too

flying-dog-fish 2023-05-06 20:42

There's nothing like running around us a big wacky orange dog, whether you deliver packages on the way or not. I didn't have any issues with the controls (using mouse and keyboard) like some people mentioned.

nastasya 2023-05-08 18:40

Interesting and funny idea~Good job!

thomaslebel 2023-05-09 11:06

The dog animation is really neat ! No problem with the controls either, and impressie work on the world layout ! Still in awe with the dog animation ahah

williamsoares 2023-05-10 19:43

I just miss some objective. Bu it is a funny game

pabloabraham 2023-05-10 23:20

A fascinating concept indeed! The game has a certain charm with its quirky dog and expansive map. Despite some issues with the camera and controls, I think there's a lot of potential here. The speed boosts were quite tricky to handle, but with some tweaks, it could add a thrilling aspect to the game. The PS1/N64 aesthetic was a nice touch, and I must commend the team for the dog animation - it was quite delightful! I agree with some of the feedback about possibly having fewer packages for delivery, as the current amount felt a bit overwhelming. Maybe incorporating some variety in the gameplay, such as different types of deliveries or obstacles, could keep the gameplay engaging. Overall, I see a lot of promise here, and I'm excited to see how this game evolves in the future. Keep up the great work!

The graphics in this game, though not extravagant, successfully convey the game's concept and immerse players in its world

pavel-tararin 2023-05-18 15:00

An interesting idea, but. in my opinion, the level design completely does not correspond to the controlling and speed of the character after picking up the boosts. I would like more spaces like high-speed winding tracks, maybe with some obstacles. The graphics are too angular - it didn't suit me. The music is good, but if not for a long time. I would like additional sounds for game content. The assignment of the crate carrying points is randomly generated and frustration quickly comes. In general, the idea is good for development. Good job.
