Nice concept of the lava moving up the z axis and changing the map - makes for some exciting moments
Cool game! Nice cohesive experience- everything in it is high quality. The topology filling up with lava is a fun effect.
At first the controls seemed a little slippy, but after a few tries I was able to cross the lava so it's probably fine. It would be nice to have some kind of indicator of how close you are to completing the crossing.
Very simple to play. Strangely zen feeling for this type of game -- which I like.
On the one hand, it's satisfying to go further during a good run, on the other, some of it can feel a bit luck based (though it also feels like there is a bit of a system in place to guarantee that there always is some sort of possible path? I.d.k.)
Best score so far (after 5 to 10 tries I think?): 256 meters left (66% to go).
Great fun, very easy to understand and very challenging. My criticisms would only be the audio being rather simple and the lava looking rather bizarre, but it doesn't hinder gameplay.
I really liked the game, nice music, smooth animations, good job!
The lava slowly rising perfectly fits the theme. Love that the car/tank just goes and you are at its whim. The tank is a little hard to control, especially when there is a lot of lava.
The indication of the topology where the lava is coming up in the next cycle is amazing. Works really well. Good game!
I like it  Cool idea. The chilling music nicely contrasts with stressful gameplay and creates a unique experience.
A simple distance tracker would be nice.
Did you use Perlin noise to generate the level?
Thanks for all the feedback!
@remco If you are not fast enough, the way might be entirely blocked
@owca Yep, the height map is entirely generated using perlin noise
@matt-barnfield Yeah, there is a distance indicator but it is very hard to make out (at the bottom of the screen)
Nice work!! Really fun and nice lofi beat to run for your life to.
Fun and simple. The soundtrack was pleasing to listen to and help get in the zone while playing the game. The controls were touchy and made it hard to traverse far side to side when there was no other option than to do so to pass the lava. Still fun and very playable.
Fun game and great music! Well done!
Very Fun game played it lots of times my highest was 75 and the music is nice
Simple, but quite nice implementation of the theme. Also good music.
I really liked the choice of having more slidey controls. Having lower control of the vehicle made things much more intense and unpredictable. That, combined with the semi-randomness of the lava generation made sure I replayed a few times due to how hard it was.
I've played a similar LD game to this before, but that was square/tile based and the stage would fall out under you. In comparison, the noise generation added SO much to the feel of the game. It looked really good and sold the idea of well, driving in a volcano.
I liked the journey of learning the game over time. At first you realize that lava is VERY dangerous. Even a small pixel will kill you. But you start to understand how it expands when the 10s are up. Then you start to get better at pathing once you can predict how the lava grows. It's super fun! I could only get to 54% though, at which point the lava pools are too unforgiving to bypass (unless there's a luck factor involved). Are you able to clear the game?
@peachtreeoath Thanks for the compliments! Yes you can always clear the level but you need to be fast enough, otherwise the path might close up in front of you. I think my biggest mistake was leaving the difficulty as high as it is.
Nice game ! It's very easy to start playing and the challenge is addictive ! Nice work :)
oh man this game is difficult!!! is it beatable? it can't be beatable right? I made it to about 50% in my best playthrough.. anyway the game is simple but nice, I like how you made the main consept of the game out of shaders, I wish I could make fancy shaders like that lol. but nice work! really sweat game.
oh and one last thing, how do you detect if player touches the lava? do you use some kind of compute shader? I'm curious
that is hard as hell.. car is sliding like mad.. can't even make regular turn.. music is nice and calming in contrast to lava apocalypse :) nice game overall
Very cool game!! And super hard hahahahaha
@0x-void-x0 Yep, lava detection was tricky to figure out: The game just checks the screen pixel where the car is. If it's a lava colored pixel, game over and otherwise the game continues.
I love the lava VFX and the chill music. I saw your technical writeup post as well- it was super interesting! Really well done entry!
very cool game! It looks really good and the vehicle is fun to control. Putting some chill lofi on such a demanding gameplay is a very good idea, I loved it ✨
Thanks for the game and great job!
A very interesting concept with a perfect hit on the topic!
I played with both the mouse+keyboard and the gamepad. It's much easier to play on the gamepad! Control on the gamepad seems more responsive and predictable than with the mouse+keyboard.
One of the two is very lacking in mouse+keyboard control: 1. Clearer machine control, less inertia 2. The ability to slow down.
Beautiful, minimalistic art that helps the player to understand what is dangerous, what is not and how the lava will spill.
I liked the game, but I can't get to the end. The longest distance covered is about 66%.
i made it \o/ this is fun, I would have done an endless mode just for a highscore ^^ or a timer for a highscore - but its not a complaint for not having it, it just crossed my mind while playing. The game is great and well made! :)
@rickylee Glad you made it! For the sake of simplicity i only made one mode and i prefer doing completable games for jams rather than high score, it makes for a more contained and finite experience for players imo. Definitely a possibility if I release it on mobile!
