Fun take on the theme! The difficulty of this certainly ramps up over time, and the use of the announcer to throw me off was genius. Well done!

not-the-loading-screen 2022-10-03 03:01

Wasn't Expecting the twist with the announcer and button movement, it was really Fun and a really interesting take on the theme!

jcg 2022-10-03 03:02

Very cool; had to hide the "Jam Ends" counter to prevent periphery cheating :)

caresle 2022-10-03 03:04

Really nice and funny, at the beginning I think that will be just press the button and me counting the seconds, but was a really nice surprise at the end.

pennycook 2022-10-03 03:14

@jcg - That timer wasn't there during playtesting...

stoickekis 2022-10-03 03:17

Nice game! Simple but funny as hell. Those "AMAZING" and "OUTSTANDING" kept a smile on my face wanting more. Thanks!

vivianmochi 2022-10-03 04:09

Omg this game is actually outstanding. I thought it was just gonna be a joke but it ended up being super enjoyable! I had to count out loud while the random numbers were being said haha. Thank you for this entry :)

haydads 2022-10-03 04:32

What a masterpiece. Took the theme quite literally, but is very fun and well presented! Good one!

laurahur 2022-10-03 13:35

A short but fun game. Well done!

ds-nahogara 2022-10-03 22:37

THIS IS AT THE MOMENT MY FAVORITE ENTRY!! The Theme is 100% tight, and i had to battle against the trust of this game constantly even doubting if he was saying it right!! "outstanding!" *nope xD*

Fantastic work here yall!

milq 2022-10-03 22:50

Very funny and fitting to the theme! The truth is that it has been entertaining me for a long time. Great game!

tinykidtoo 2022-10-04 00:31

I love all the little things that are thrown into mess with you. Like ....1 ...4 ...1 ...4 ...1, Its great! Love the attention to detail.

pennycook 2022-10-04 01:58

Thank you, everyone! I really didn't know how this one was going to be received, and I'm truly blown away by your comments.

Apologies if I haven't played and rated your games, yet. I'm working my way through them, and promise I'll get to them (if they work in a browser or on Linux).

@smilewood, @not-the-loading-screen, @stoickekis, @tinykidtoo: Glad to see the announcer getting some love. He's the real star of the show. :mega:

@caresle, @nate954: Thank you for giving it a chance. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

@haydads, @ds-nahogara: I think I might have to print and frame these...

@laurahur: You caught me! I'm a sadist making games for masochists.

@olddog, @cookie-chr, @milq: Thank you!

oadt 2022-10-04 08:37

Funny idea! I though at some point I will never hit the button at the right time again, but I actually worked pretty well. Don't know if the game is very forgiving or I just had luck  Seems simple but was actually surprisingly entertaining!

austin-sierra 2022-10-04 22:58

Funny game even though im really bad at it! The voices work well in this game

appleplectic 2022-10-04 23:02

Pretty fun, fits the theme great, and very simple. I would say to mix it up a bit more, but other than that, great fun little game.

lex 2022-10-04 23:04

Yea, that was a silly entry indeed! It made me giggle so it's all that matters, congratulations!

nardandas 2022-10-04 23:18

Really funny use of cues! I came here from the front page, with the post referencing headcount. I don't know if it's because I played that before this, but here I was really wanting something to re-confirm my rhythm and placement. After a while I felt my clicking was mostly random, and I couldn't correlate the "good" "bad" "incredible" to an actual amount of time off. Probably intentional, but gosh was it frustrating! I think the game definitely hits its mark on what it was trying to do!

c4ris 2022-10-04 23:25

Short sweet and hits the idea on the head! Thanks for the fun game

bogden 2022-10-04 23:28

Really hilarious entry, but +1 to nardandas's comments about wanting some more feedback about what I was doing well or poorly. Maybe that was the point to make it ambiguous and have misleading announcements, but if so, that wasn't clear either.

Particularly enjoyed the announcer sound effects. Just kept waiting to see what would surprise or mislead me next!

megafuze 2022-10-04 23:31

This game is only for the truest of hardcore gamers, to the eyes of casual players this just looks like a goofy clicking game but if you look further this is where all friendships are made, this is how peace treaties are made after wars, Many relationships that fall apart are rebuilt just by playing this game. I once met a guy working as a Cashier for McDonalds and the moment I showed him this game his shirt started ripping apart due to his muscles growing at a rapid pace, thanks to this game he now lives a super fortunate life trading stocks and everytime he clicks a button that sells his stocks, he begins to hear an "OUTSTANDING!" echo across his room. Thank you for making this game and changing everyone's lives. The only way I can repay is by rating so I hope you accept my offer!

pennycook 2022-10-05 02:06

@oadt, @austin-sierra, @appleplectic, @c4ris: Thank you for playing and rating!

@nardandas, @bogden: So... After playing Headcount myself I thought "Damn, maybe I should have done that." I'm considering an experimental build that provides feedback to see how it feels...

But! I promise that there _is_ a correlation between the announcer's feedback and how well you're doing. The problem is that if you get offbeat the game does nothing to help (semi-deliberately). More information below, if you're curious:

!> The beats you're trying to hit are at 10 second intervals after you hit the button for the first time. The timer does not reset each time you hit the button. There's a [-5 seconds, +5 seconds] window for each button press, and the score reflects your absolute distance from the ideal press: "OUTSTANDING" is within 0.5 seconds, "INCREDIBLE" is within 1 second, "AMAZING" 2 seconds, "GOOD" 3 seconds, "BAD" 4 seconds, and "FAILURE" otherwise. So if you're consistently under or over counting, the score will start to drift.

My best run was a score of 10,200 (10 "OUTSTANDING"s + 2 "INCREDIBLE"s). But that was after counting to 10 about a bazillion times in two days...

@megafuze: Thanks for sharing that tale.

everybody: If you're currently only offering a Windows version of your game, please ping me if/when you start offering a Linux/browser version!

makiyoshi 2022-10-05 13:56

Ok LOL that was funny. I like the trolling, great job.

borabee 2022-10-06 04:45

Very funny take on the theme! kkkkk I kept thinking, how many more ways have you though of to misidrect me from my counting? haha Also, you get points in my book just for having a announcer, that's pretty cool heh

mathstr0fficial 2022-10-10 12:57

I... don't really know how to rate this one to be honest. I shouldn't like it, and yet I do. There's something about the sheer stupidity of the concept that just works. Of course, mechanically and visually there's not a ton going on, but it's fun enough and the subversion of expectations really plays nicely with the theme. I can't in good conscience rate it particularly highly given what it is, but for what it is it's rather enjoyable. Absolutely unique if nothing else!

pennycook 2022-10-11 23:46

@makiyoshi, @borabee - Thank you! I'm glad you found it funny; I'm always worried that the jokes won't land, and very happy to hear when they do.

codeman1010 2022-10-13 05:13

It was a simple idea and it took me way too long to realize the timer was messing with me. Really great implementation, simple but built perfectly.
