Totally fits the theme. I was so focused on my single balloon that I nearly didn't notice the second one. The notification on the top left helps, but it could be bigger.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD50 → Balloon Bash

Oof, hopefully you played with sound, it also has a spawn sound.
The Minetest engine is still improving and changing the text for chat messages requires me to change that text size for all games. So anyone who goes inside that game_data folder to player real minetest will have a weird experience using the larger font.
So, until that engine improves, I'm not going to mess with it. Though I will definitely change the color to be more obvious.
------------ Thanks again for playing this very short entry, do give multiplayer a try, it's quite fun with friends, and also be sure to try out the underlying games in the engine, Minetest is a cool open source project.
The sound effect is very nice, I'll try online when I meet my friend!
This is literally my childhood. Thank you for bringing it back!
Such a good idea for the theme. loved it!
Loved it!
Nice use of minetest :) Makes a great diversion.
This game evokes instant nostalgia. I missed the second balloon spawning the first few times but I think that was on me.
Whoa, I know the engine provides this, but multiplayer for a game jam is really bold! Nice one! Gotta try it with some friends later.
I was really interested in the engine or editor you picked - and you are doing a great job in using it! Nice One ;)
@foursay as you should be ;)
Found minetest back in the day when it was just a Minecraft clone, they've really expanded their horizons the past few years, it's more like an engine every day.
This was more of a bet with that community I could make a fun game jam entry this year in 3 hours. This is the result:)
Good take on the theme, and a novel approach to making a game. The Minecraft controls helped me feel at home playing it. It would make sense, I think, for it to be set in a limited arena, so the balloons don't get too spread out. Perhaps the arena could expand as more balloons are added, to increase the challenge. It also needs some sort of scoring system to gauge success, I think.
This was way more fun than it had any right to be! I got to feel like a child for a few minutes :) I managed to keep 4 balloons alive for a time. This also introduced me to minetest, which looks like an interesting little project. Thanks for a fun entry!
@cppchriscpp try playing with friends if you can, it's almost party game level once you get 4-6 and 20 balloons ;) As for Minetest, yeah I think more people should be using it for these LDJams and for game making in general, enjoy discovering all it has to offer ;)
it's the game we all played as a kid, lol.
i got to 7 balloons pretty easily. It ran well enough under WINE, though i do wish there had been a linux native version.
@raptor851 There could have been if I had more than 3 hours to make it. Minetest runs on android, linux, mac, and windows. The issue is the map would have to be generated at startup and that would have taken another hour or so. The game will be live in Minetest soon enough, feel free to sudo apt install minetest (hopefully you're on a recent version of ubuntu, or just compile from source. It's pretty actively developed and released.
It'll be under the same name on their ContentDB, probably in a few weeks.
There's another game exactly like this -- keep balloons of floor -- in this ludum dare, though it's in 2D hahahaha. This one plays a lot better, and I could see multiplayer being super awesome. It's actually a great idea. Super good work!
Fun!
Instantly you start to think about ways to keep them together.
It would be more interesting if the balloons could collide with each other. and if they spawned in a bit more of a random location.
@etchell
Collision with each other would make it harder, and I wanted this to be easier for solo players. It'll end up on a server somewhere so I'll be sure to turn that on (simple toggle actually) when it goes to that kind of environment.
As for the random location part, you can edit the code yourself (plaintext, in the game_data/games/balloon_bash/mods/balloon_bash/init.lua, look for the add_entity() lines and adjust the distance from +-4 to like +-10 to make it really hard.
Alternatively, find some friends, as they will randomly spawn over any joined player.
Thanks for playing, and the feedback:)
Incredible game ! It perfectly fits the theme, and it's really fun to play. The music is also so catchy, I love it.
Good job
Nice balloon simulation. Gameplay could be a little deeper
Fun game! I think it opens the door for different gamemodes, e.g. get the balloon to a target location.
great game, good job. 0.39 inch [3942AW](http://www.xlitx.com/datasheet/3942AW.pdf) led [3942AW](http://www.lanpade.com/7-segment-led-dot-matrix/3942aw.html) 7-segment [3942BW](http://www.xlitx.com/datasheet/3942BW.pdf) display [3942BW](http://www.lanpade.com/7-segment-led-dot-matrix/3942bw.html)
