@austin-sierra Thanks for pointing it out! We're still building the web version and must have messed up the submission.
Somehow i did not find anything. No new spells, no enemy, no exit. The Sounds and water animation were great tho. (and it took a few tries to identify "nat" as "wat")
@phoenixofforce The other Shrines might be a bit too hidden >.<
I like the art, but sadly couldn't figure out how to actually play this game beyond typing letters (presumably there is some key that actually uses the spell you've typed? At least Enter doesn't work on my end) and moving with the direction keys.
The typing spells is a neat concept, I only made it as far as STARS before I got lost and wandered back to the beginning. Idk if it's just me but the map might be a bit too maze-like.
My main issue with this game: huuuuuge empty map ! I like the idea, having to cast spells to stay alive is interesting. But i didn't find anything to cast a spell on, the world seems to be just a simple large maze with no interactions. Having to walk 3 meters and then type the same spell 3 or 4 times just to keep walking isn't fun very long. I like the main character visual. I would suggest to use the same pixel size for the world. The Music is very "magical" and fits the mood.
I do hope you keep working on this game, since it could use some love past the timespan of a game jam. The premise of having to cast spells to stay alive has a lot of potential, but as some other users have said, it lacks any depth when there are no targets to use spells on. Besides that I have to say the graphics and sound design are a step up from most in this game jam.
dont work
Web version seems to be broken, probably in the Project Settings of Unity/WebGL, under the Publishing Settings you have selected "Brotli" that has some problems. Try to change it to Gzip (or Disabled but I don't recommend that) and it will be solved. ^^ Waiting for a response to try the Web version! (Don't like to donwload games >.< sz).
@holy You're an angel! We've been struggling a bit to fix the Web build. I'll try your suggestion!
@marvis @holy The Web version is online! The UI is overflowing the game's Resolution though, so I'm sorry for that, will try fixing it when I have time. Meanwhile here are the spell names (You learn them by interacting with the Shrines: "Wat", "Windo", "Stars", "Pillars", "Black Hole", Those are supposed to be visible in the UI :')
@gustavo Nice to hear that! ^^ I see it working now, maybe the scaling problem can be fixed adjusting the Canvas settings >.< but not sure about that. The game idea is really nice, graphics and music are lovely, just missing someone to hit with my spells xD Nice job!
Nice job team - really cool concept to type in spells! Had some old school mmo vibes
The trend seems to be that the other shrines are too hidden. I think there needs to be a map so the player knows where to go. Wandering aimlessly isn't fun, and it just leads to frustration when you're on your fifth attempt and still cant find anything.
The artwork is nice, and I like the water splash animation. Cool game, I wish I knew where to go.
The spell effects were super cool, I bet with another week you could smooth out the exploration and add in enemies and what not. But this is a very solid proof of concept. Cheers! Also thanks for fixing the bugs so I could play. :)
Like said in above your game has superb idea, learning & typing spells to use them to stay alive is great concept for playing as a mage but the lack of enemies and our spells effect in environment (breaking pots or walls to open new rooms) takes its charm a little, It can be an awesome game in post-jam version if you guys wants to do it!
I really like the idea for your game but wish there were enemies or something around that incentivized me to use different spells. I could just mash the first spell and be okay. The art, effects, and music were really cool though.
Interesting idea. I found the controls having having to balance moving and tpying a little diffucult. Also think the gamplay around the spells should be worked on, can really just spam one spell when the meter feels and then move freely. Nonetheless a good concept and could be worked on to make something really cool!
Great idea, I wasn't paying attention if the rate of the meter increases over time, but it definitely felt harder the longer I played. I think it was a little too difficult in my opinion, with the maze-like layout I would have preferred to be able to dedicate more of my brainpower to exploring than keeping my meter low.
What a fun idea, sadly the execution is lacking quite a bit. The big empty levels lead to WAT spamming on the way and it never became clear to me what can be interacted with. Sound design and and theme are great though!
Good game, but I think you could be a little bit more forgiving with the speed the mana fills.
Cool game. I like the approach to the theme. Having to type the spells is a fun way to cast them. Nice work.
I really liked the pixel art done here, good job xD. It took me a long time to understand the gameplay, I died several times until I understood it jaja! Good entry!
Really like the concept of typing out spells (sort of like Magicka but better cause you can actually remember the spells and therefore potentially combos) but yeah like everyone else said I wish there was some combat involved. Nice work :).
