Interesting take on twin stick shooters

Cute little game, I liked it :) polished and smooth

It may have been out of scope, but I think your little creature evolving or getting larger would've added a lot and given a sense of progress (Maybe that happens when your bar fills but I didn't get that far)

An incredible shoot em up, I got *very* excited when I saw the art for this, it reminds me an incredibly a lot like (CellCraft)[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APrr-Nl9Sss]. There is a lot of edutainment potential here, you could use this game as a launch pad to teach about subjects like water nucleation. Regardless I was a little appointed to find that I couldn't get my ice crystal to evolve, but I did very much enjoy the sound design (very clean and pleasing, incredibly thematic), the theme, the art style, and the mechanics implemented are fun and enjoyable.

I very much love this game, truly and accomplishment for 72 hours. Well done.

Fun snappy controls and great gameplay! The sound effects were very quiet but it was very nice. I wish there was some more feedback when you hit enemies instead of just knocking them back a bit. Maybe a bit of (small) red flash or shaking could help with that, or some extra particle debris that comes off? Either way though this was a great entry. Art is also stellar by the way.

Very nice visuals and plays well. I wish there was a little bit more "oomph" to the shooting part, either by making the shots a litte larger or adding some sort of effect to them, or by giving their impact more weight/feedback when they hit enemies. Or maybe both? Overall though, a very nice little game with great visuals. Great job!

Your game has a very nice (and consistent!) visual style and a unique take on the theme! I was surprised by the amount of enemy variety and I enjoyed using the dash. Constructive feedback: I was hoping to find more weapons and/or some powerups.

A simple, accomplished game that can draw you in. Nice blue color scheme, pleasant music and neat graphics.

I would expand this game with upgrades for the player, but also more dangerous enemies at the same time.

willoxs 2022-04-07 17:33

Really nice use of sprite stretching. Reminds me of those principles of animation. I didnt see a good use for the dash as the cost seems to high - but the chasing sawblades teached me otherwise. That was an enemy that felt really good designed. Because most of the time you only see the "shoot at your current position and chase" enemies and those make for not so entertaining gameplay on their own.

But i felt like the difficulty could be ramped up a bit. As in more enemies - i only really died because i ran out of bubbles as i could not find enemies or they were not spwaning fast enough.

But i like the visual style and the sounds did work (again?)

Had fun - nice game

janniz 2022-04-07 17:47

Really cool game, I had a lot of fun while playing it! It feels so polished, love the design and the music. It's also well balanced with bigger enemies coming in over time. It would be nice to get some powerups for more shooting variety and sometimes it's a little bit hard to see the direction where I'm shooting. Also I didn't fully understand the meaning of the fire bar at the bottom of the screen. But that's just a few minor things, really love this game great job!

matt-e 2022-04-07 17:55

Very nice game! Everytime I thought I had discovered all the types of enemies another one appeared and they were all unique and interesting! I couldn't work out what the bar at the bottom did but aside from that everything was very intutive. Good job.

@larsdu @mopifish @zack-hd @ezykill @janniz @willoxs @phobos001 @hajpappan @simba @collin-visser

thanks for playing everyone! i really appreciate the detailed feedback.

to address your general suggestions, here are the features i was planning but didnt get the time to implement, as well as things im aware need fixing: - increase in size or some other visible evolution of the player bubble - particle effects and other kinds of visual effects for various things - more pickups, as well as a systematic bullet styling that respects all the upgrades you've picked up so far - more enemies! i had so many ideas that i didnt get a chance to add: - ice enemies that are immune to freeze bullets and much stronger. these would also have a distinct visual style, as well as the ability to damage you by running straight into you >:) ice crystal droplets as currency for stronger upgrades would also be cool - possibly fire enemies as well. these could be exclusively bosses perhaps - enemies that can fire through walls - enemies with exotic movement patterns: quick staccato motion on a grid, bullet dodging, swarming and surrounding, etc. - better balancing. every time you receive an upgrade, your bullets cost more. this, combined with stronger enemies not being significantly more valuable, causes your outlook to be pretty bleak around the 2-3 minute mark, as @willoxs pointed out - making some mechanics more obvious: the big one is the evaporation bar. it indicates the rate at which your water meter goes down by itself. this really isnt obvious (thanks @janniz and @matt-e), which i have some ideas about improving, while also still maintaining a minimal use of text

i wont make any promises about continued development, because every time i do it seems to release a wretched curse that prevents me from doing so, but in case i do make sure to [follow me on itch.io!](https://ben-m.itch.io)

Gameplay - not bad, animation - pleasant. Fun - definitely present. Theme - sorry but no.

theunusualart 2022-04-08 13:58

Fun gameplay, perfect artstyle, fitting music as well! I really enjoyed playing Terminal Hydrophilia! One thing I might add to the game, would be a short tutorial. Yes the game is really simple, but it took me a while to figure out that killing enemies actually gives you more time ^^

spounka346 2022-04-08 15:43

Loved everything about this game absolutely, the art the audio the gameplay, a bit too hard an punishing at first but dang amazing

sakura-magika 2022-04-11 21:21

it's a cute game, i wanted to take down the "big gunship" type enemies at first, but i found their health too high and their homing bombs too powerful, so i learned to just run away from them.

the world felt pretty sparse over all, and i felt like i needed to search for more enemies to kill. maybe that's what you're going for, with the idea of trying to survive, and not dry up, but i think it would be more fun to have more enemies.

i think the spikes ones were my favorite since they're not difficult to avoid the shots and give lots of points/health.

i saw a few power ups here and there, but i never felt like i needed them, or understood what they did. for this genre, i think that weapon modifications would be the most typical, or bombs (screen clear) or a shield.

as for innovation, this felt like a twin stick shooter (ala geometry wars) played mostly straight, with the addition of your constantly decreasing health. when i think about water drops trying to avoid evaporating, and fighting with other water drops, i would have expected some kind of mechanic with merging and growing, looking for smaller drops, avoiding ones bigger than you, and some kind of interaction with contact, instead of firing missiles. currently, it doesn't feel like a water droplet game, it feels like a geometry wars game with a water droplet skin.

good over all polish! i like the droplet font and colors, and subtle animation in the background.

Looks nice but wasn't very clear. Everything looks kind of the same so it wasn't obvious what to shoot at, what to collect and what to avoid. I think I haven't fully figured it out. It would be cool if you'd grow when collecting stuff. I have tried a few times but my avatar stayed the same all the time.
