Very good game! The sounds are perfect too! Loved it! However I don't think you get enough time to react for the asteroids that go on the highest buildings, and the particles kind of get in the way of my aim.

untitled-studios 2022-04-04 15:00

I genuinely adore this game. The narration is great, the music is killer, the art maybe leaves something to be desired, but the sounds are really funny. It is at once dead serious and completely ridiculous. I dunno, it just comes across as genuine somehow. However, it keeps crashing when I'm halfway through playing.

baily 2022-04-04 15:04

even my cat liked it.rate my game pls

claytonrumley 2022-04-04 15:49

@bingtheping Thank you for the review! I understand your frustration with the asteroids...the plan was to add HUD markers that show where the asteroid is about to appear at.

@untitled-studios Thanks for the review! The art could have been a lot better (I'm not much of an artist), but I sacrificed art (and a few other features) to figure out how to do the breaking buildings from scratch (they are procedurally generated). I'm sorry to hear about the crashing...that really sucks.

@baily glad your cat liked it ^_^

nethead 2022-04-04 20:39

Super cool, still impressed by the explosion effects on the building. +1 to loving the narration and sounds too

jsmitq 2022-04-05 00:09

Love the voiceover! Also, a few little features you added, like the falling building parts and extra points for shooting two asteroids at once added some nice depth to the gameplay.

For critique, I noticed the laser aim doesn't match where the mouse cursor is (at least on the web version) which made it difficult to aim. Also, sometimes the particle effect on the asteroid does not follow the direction the asteroid is moving.

Overall it's a fun game!

david-york 2022-04-05 01:09

Cool concept. I appreciate how many asteroids it takes to destroy a building, reminds me of the Rampage monsters doing damage.

remco 2022-04-05 18:12

I like the idea that the 'delay' part is for a reason, rather than just senseless. That hadn't occurred to me until now. (Though ... in the original concept for my game the pickups where going to be wandering people you saved as well.)

There's a bit of cooldown on the shooting, which I understand is to discourage button-mashing, but I wonder if it couldn't have been handled in another way, perhaps with a finite energy, as it felt very limited.

petturtle 2022-04-06 02:31

The intro sequence, music and destruction are really cool. In the html version the turret does not line up with the mouse and I wish the camera was more zoomed out so I had more time to click on the asteroids.

the3rdhunter 2022-04-06 02:42

Awesome procedural destruction system! I know the aim is to prevent it, but it's kinda awesome watching those meteors chew through those builds and send debris scattering down onto the people running for shelter. The audio is amazing! From the opening voice over, to the shouts from the people, and the poignant piano theme at the end, it all sounded really good. Maybe there could have been some beefier destruction sounds to go with that awesome building destruction.

I really like the tone of this game. It kinda feels like an 80's VHS to me. With the text scroll of over-wrought drama overtop of a starry background. The synthy off tempo background music. The missle command style of the gameplay. So nostalgic! So good!!! Amazing work!

claytonrumley 2022-04-06 05:11

@nethead - Thanks!

@jsmitq - Thanks for your feedback! I was trying to get the particle effect on the asteroid to work and gave up in favour of adding other features; definitely something to improve. I'm glad you noticed that if you shoot multiple meteors at once there's a point multiplier; I didn't get to give any noticeable visual indication of it. The beam issue is definitely a web version one...I had trouble getting the web version set up in itch.io as it was my first time trying to do so. I apologize for the inconvenience.

@david-york Thank you! When I was working on it I was thinking of Rampage, too. ^_^

@remco - Thanks for the review; I liked your game as well! Had I more time I would have implemented alternate meteor sizes (and speeds) and possibly pickups that would temporarily reduce your recharge time. Finite energy is an interesting idea as well; you can button mash until you exhaust your capacitor and then it has to recharge...

@petturtle - Thanks for the feedback; I need to research why the web build isn't working as good as the windows one and get that fixed. I'm glad you liked it in spite of the issues. :)

@the3rdhunter - I know how you feel; during testing I repeated sat there and watched the buildings get destroyed because it was more fun than shooting meteors! ^-^ The audio was certainly incomplete and I had a placeholder object set up for a visual explosion sequence and sound effect but simply ran out of time. I'm very pleased that you enjoyed the nostalgia component! Thank you for taking the time to comment!

sofignedova 2022-04-06 22:14

Thank you for a wonderful experience! Scratched nostalgic bone ha-ha-ha

People's screams were annoying, but the rest is fine! The inaccuracy of the cannon in the web version looks like... Realistic? Guns don't behave perfectly.

You did a cool job! I can't imagine doing this alone!

claytonrumley 2022-04-07 03:47

@sofignedova Thank you for such high praise! I was hoping the screams would sound better if 10 people were crushed at once and you got that "whole crowd screaming" effect. :p

nenechico 2022-04-08 17:32

Nice efforts on intro, I imagine it was hard to balance with other tasks. Scored 4930 and saved 73 humans :)

kiddy 2022-04-09 21:34

Nice game, I love the dynamic destruction of the buildings. Great job !

daniel-username 2022-04-10 04:14

Cool game! I think something might be messed up with the webgl version though. I can only see the bottom half of the screen, so I only have a really brief time to shoot the incoming projectiles before they hit the building. This is on Chrome. Either way, the way the building breaks off and lands on people is quite cool.

milan8890 2022-04-10 07:14

Nice game!

For me in the begining of the game it's impossible to hit the first few meteors. I would much prefer it if there was more space between the top of the screen and the buildings.

Aside from that great submition!

claytonrumley 2022-04-10 16:32

@nenechico & @kiddy Thank you!

@daniel-username & @milan8890 Thanks for the feedback! My original plan was to have HUD-like markers indicating where the meteors would be entering the screen from to give you a warning. Though I could also claim some sort of brilliant plan to encapsulate the theme of the jam by making it obvious that you can't save everyone when the first few impacts start killing people. :)

daniel-username 2022-04-10 16:36

@claytonrumley haha, great idea :-)

cdunham 2022-04-11 09:21

Cool little game, fits the theme well. Wish the hit boxes on the meteors fit their sizes better, but the game is fun regardless. The stuff you didn't have time to add would've all improved the game, but its still good for being done in such a short amount of time. Nice work!

claytonrumley 2022-04-11 13:42

@cdunham Thanks!

fancyprice 2022-04-14 09:14

wow, cool)

grizwhirl 2022-04-14 22:47

I like the little twist to the classic missile commander formula. Neat

claytonrumley 2022-04-15 05:09

@fancyprice & @grizwhirl Thank you!

holysparks 2022-04-17 20:42

Enjoyed it, the sounds in general are pretty good (narration, sfx, music). I think you could try and change/hide the cursor during the game, it didn't follow the railgun very well and was a bit confusing. Also the game crashed the tab right after my play which was weird. Overall a fun game!

claytonrumley 2022-04-17 22:54

@holysparks thanks for the review! I'm sorry to hear about it crashing in the web browser. I've been unable to replicate it yet. Which browser were you using? The cursor/railgun issue is something I definitely need to fix.

holysparks 2022-04-18 00:14

@claytonrumley I'm on Chrome, and it crashed only the tab. I just did it again:

claytonrumley 2022-04-18 02:16

@holysparks Thanks for providing that...I'll see if I can replicate it and figure out why it's misbehaving.

oadt 2022-04-21 17:43

Really great intro and also music! They set up a great mood for the game. There are some small quirks like the intro text moving a bit too fast and also the sounds of buildings being hit seem to be played delayed, but still a cool entry!

claytonrumley 2022-04-22 05:02

@oadt Thank you so much for the feedback!
