Finished it on my first try! :) Congrats on your first game for the jam
I really like the blueprint style look of the game! and the game play loop is really good!
I did run in to a small bug, on restart no timers move and I can't move. This is a shot in the dark but you may not be setting timeScale back to 1 when you reload the scene
Great idea for a game. Almost made it to the escape pod but I tried to run through one too many fires :)
@rosymaple thank you for your kind feedback :) thought I un-freezed all of the ways out, will look through it once again then to see what is causing the problem
@deviant-dots thank you :) hope it wasn't too easy to play through still!
@rayredd thank you for playing :)
@Rayredd after playing it again it didn't freeze the 2nd time I lost, so I'm not sure what caused it
great game!!
Liked the art and sound. Definitely with being new to game jams (I still am myself) the biggest issue I had was a clear direction to start, and feedback that what you're doing is correct (like even having a small progress bar when you're standing on generators to charge them) - still though, cool idea, the blueprint was great, the song was very cool and atmospheric. Good job!
@t-c thank you, will focus on exactly this :) squeezed only 1 of those for the ship charge cycle at the very last moment. Post-jam, visual feedback will, hopefully, be radically improved.
I really like the feeling of the game and the concept of watching a monitor with the actual action being kinda hidden.
I wish there was more feedback both in terms of sound and visuals to let me know when I've done something, e.g. fires pinging or glowing or animating away once put out, or bars filling as I complete tasks.
Conceptually really cool, love the music as well, and I like that the game is basically feature complete, great work!
@3mpty thank you for playing it on a stream, will be glad to implement all the feedback ;)
The concept of keeping a burning ship afloat is really fun. I just wish there were more gameplay centered elements/polish like feedback sounds/notifications for doing the right thing. Also I feel like I was constantly fighting fires that would re-appear behind me, but maybe I'm just not very good haahha. Thanks for the great game!!
Quite easy to understand, fun to play, a nice game for a "1st jam" ! Congrats :D
@jpgfg @ql28 thank you for the feedback, it is much appreciated!
I didn't understand why to play. I wander around and nothing happens. The music is not bad.
@romandviski in the main menu, there is an explanation in terms of how to play and the gameplay. Indeed, the game is not polished in regards to visual feedback and clearer player goals since I didn't manage to add it by the deadline, so I understand it may be confusing :(
I'm feeling the same as the comment above... But I like the map design and the music.. It's definetly a good game but not for me I guess... Congratulations on your first Game Jam :two_hearts:
@lucy-lu thank you ;) It's true that it may prove to be inaccessible, sadly - definitely my fault here. Hopefully, I will do better next time!
Really like the aesthetic with the blueprints. However, I do agree with other people that there isn't really enough visual feedback. For me I think the text on the screen ingame was a bit small, so I was struggling to see what the current status is.
loks like we had same idea, cool game tho
Fits the jam theme well, I like the look of the map and the music.
Great Job! The core meltdown fits the theme nicely. I also appreciate how you posted the tools you used in the description. Its helpful to see! Congratulations!
@amkingtrp @kenneth-gibson @thetotemguy @whenyoucantfindafriend thank you all, guys, really appreciate your feedback! :)
Liked the idea, the UI was a bit cluttered so I had a hard time figuring out the objective. The systems you made seem to work well though. Remember that simplicity is key! Good job for a first game jam.
Simple blueprint map, I like it! The music is also pretty good. Congratulations on your first game jam game!
This game has huge potential! You don't even really need to change graphics that much. A bit more distinction between what you can walk through and what you can't and the map would look great just like that. I think it should also be a bit more difficult because I managed to keep my heat levels rather low and never saw any fires or enemies. Also the spaceship wouldn't load with energy so I couldn't actually finish the game. It was fun nonetheless and I think it would be a lot more fun if it was harder.
Great Job!
@lychee @staticbits @daspikeyboss thank you for your feedback, will keep working on the game, especially on the better UI design for the future - it is indeed just a mess for now :) To have an attempt at charging the ship, you must remain at level 3 heat or above, but again, it's true that the UI doesn't make it clear.
Interesting game, well done for a first game jam!
Hard to understand what to do at first. I was concentrated on keeping the danger level under 3, so nothing was happening. You should have not called it "danger level", because intuitively, you try to have its value at the lowest possible. Maybe "core level" or "generator level" would have been better.
The text explains you have to get that level to at least three, but even with this info, my intuition was to keep it the low. Then I realized things were happening with a danger level 3.
- Generators seems useless : they kept green during my whole game after I put all of them to green. - Turrets seems useless :I charged ammo in it, to a total of 225, and it did not decreased. - I did not see any monster.
Either I was very good at playing your game, either some announced features are missing.
As previous comments told : the blueprint design is nice. But you should have used two different colors for the unpassable walls and the passable doors. One part of the ship is especially strange : at the north east of the medic bay, there are two adjacent corridors, thus an unpassable wall with walkable area at each side.
Also, if you choosed blueprint graphic style, why not push the idea to the max ? Why the turret, the core, the escape pod, and etc are "real drawings" ? Maybe you should have tried to draw them as blueprints. It may be hard to make a blueprint that would undoubtedly look as a core or as a turret, but hey! that was your initial graphic choice. Try to assume it.
Nice game overall , but it needs more GUI and visual feedback, instead of textual explanation about features that I did not see.
@recher thank you for your extensive feedback! I am working on post-jam improvements, and my main focus is definitely the visual feedback which is completely missing for now. One thing I can tell for sure that is included in the post-jam version - you can't go back past heat level 3. So first you go around and turn stuff on, then the proverbial hits the fan and you don't have a way to go back, as you can do now.
Visuals were placeholder due to lack of time, even the map was - but since people liked it, I will consider sticking to the theme of a blueprint. Also, there were supposed to be doors opening and closing automatically, this was almost the first idea of what needs to be added - which is why there are lines between the corridors, rooms etc. Had to cut it since it gave no gameplay elements and I didn't have time for non-essential stuff.
Monsters are currently "invisible", their logic is working and they attack the generators, but again, no feedback about it whatsoever :) It might as well be that the generators are shutting down randomly after a certain heat level, but there is a whole system underneath that no one can see yet haha
Hi, pretty cool game! I loved the space ship setting! Was a bit hard to understand what's going on and if I'm helping or not. I figured pressing lmb on things, but beyond that - could not really understand what to do unfortunately.
Cool game! I like the blueprint style graphics and the music is great. It's maybe a little on the easy side since I managed to win on my first attempt, while I was still trying to figure out the mechanics. It was possible to downgrade the danger level without coolant and maybe that is what made it too easy.
I agree with others about providing feedback. Whenever the player does an action, there should be both a sound and some visual change to make it clear that the player has successfully interacted. Since the generators take a moment to activate, there should be a progress bar or donut chart or something too - to make it clear that it's making progress. Also, maybe it should be made more blatant how the different game mechanics are interacting. It was hard to appreciate how keeping the turret loaded was helping me. And I would put some serious visual & sound effects on when the player is close to losing; that would make it feel more intense.
@chesiq @reheated thank you for your feedback, it is very much appreciated! it is a bug with the cooling down not requiring coolant :( fixing it with the post-jam version I am currently working on
I thought that the game was a bit hard to read. Too much infos on the HUD imho. I wandered around the station, trying to charge stuffs but I'm not sure I did it right. I think that in order to not scare the players, you should start with a very small and simple level. Maybe without all those infos on the UI. So that we can get use to the systems. Also, the music was pretty good, but there was an instrument that seems out of tune, and that was very deconcentrating. Good work anyway!
