Really challenging.
Took a minute to figure out what's going on, but once you get the hang of it it's a really fun tactile (and frantic! :D) experience!
Amusingly, I just read the wikipedia article about this engine the other day, so I knew how to operate it. Looking forward to the Watt Engine sequel.
Its a nice little machine management game, but it does get a bit boring after a while. Would be nice to have something else to do too :)
My play-by-play:
I went in without reading the instructions, as I prefer to do for my first attempt in order to see how well the game explains itself through play. At first it wasn't clear what things were clickable - I didn't immediately figure out I could turn the valves. A mouse-over of some kind would have helped.
After the score screen there was no apparent way to restart, so I had to reload the page. I noticed I could still pick up coal and water and drop them in the correct locations, hidden behind the score screen.
I then read the instructions and managed to last for 200 seconds. The gameplay itself got a little tedious after a while, just repeating the same actions over and over.
Overall a clever mechanic to turn into a game, but on the barebones side right now.
I got up to 139 seconds. I wish something would happen while I was working the machine. There is a rhythm that I got into which was kind of nice, but I felt I didn't get rewarded for it. The UI is kind of spread wide, so I have to look left and right all the time. But the concept felt interesting. I never thought about manually operating steam engines before. Thank you for the game.
A very cool idea. I always find games with this kind of detailed/tactile interaction satisfying. There's something very pleasant about getting into a groove and watching the machine move up and down (the satisfying clanking sound helps). It does get a bit dull, maybe some extra things to keep track of or some random events interfering with the engine would help.
Interesting idea and the graphics are really good! It took me a little time to figure out what to do, but I liked the gameplay
Awesome idea, really love it. quite hard for a noob like me
Cute game! Was a bit frustrated in the beginning but once you grasp the flow it's hard to lose :)
Nice theme and idea too.
Nice touches on chain movement. It is pretty cool to see thermodynamics system implemented in a game. Honestly I can't say it is much fun (though it has its moments when you discover optimization techniques), but cool to see this nevertheless. More videogames should have devices based on physics rather than just faking it.
Love the graphics, the mechanics were a bit hard to understand at first and the balance was missing, but the chains being a ragdoll look was really cool!
Pretty fun. Interesting to learn about a machine. The game got a bit tedious after a while, though. I managed to survive for 200 seconds.
such a good idea more objectives would make it a lot better (if you want to make a post jam update) :blue_heart:
