Nice work! Really liked the music and art work. Suited the theme perfectly!
Surprised to see another tesla coil game on here! Our game has tesla coils too!
I liked the idea of having to protect yourself while fighting, creates a tense back and forth flow.
Clearly the art, sound, and onboarding has a lot of polish for a game jam.
I would have liked the enemies to have less health. This would allow the difficulty to ramp up a little slower, giving me a little easier time earlier on.
I think this is a great concept but I think it could be improved by turning it into a level based game rather than a 'horde mode' like you have here. In subsequent levels you could have a variety of enemies, different tesla coil configurations, multiple tesla coils, etc.
I got shocked by my own tesla coil. . . Feels bad.
Art is really good. I love the animations and effects. They're really high quality for the time you had. I'm usually a lot more skeptical about forgoing outlines on pixel art, but you've really made it work. As for the actual gameplay, I always felt like I had a lot to do, which is important. Hack and slash combat is well explored, but when paired with giant tesla coil threatening to kill me it becomes much more high stakes. Overall I really enjoyed this experience.
Like the art and impressed with the sound effects as well as the music of your game. Interesting idea, but took some time understanding the mechanics of the game, particularly the umbrellas. Very hard and fun game.
I played a few times and my highest score was 1:15:607 and 12 kills! Pretty fun overall! I wish the person to person combat had a little more weight to it, but I really liked the almost rhythm game nature of blocking the tesla coil!
This is really cool! The combat feels super tight and refined, which is fantastic! It's also a good level of difficulty. Having a tower to defend that can also hurt you adds to the unpredictability, which both makes for a very funny experience, but also a very frustrating one. It's also somewhat unclear what the umbrella does. I'm assuming it's some kind of a shield, but that's not communicated very well.
@skallywags Thanks! My initial plan was to ramp up difficulty over time and increase enemies' hp but when I was playtesting it, I thought the difficulty would be more about protecting yourself from the tesla coil. Different tesla coil configurations would be interesting. PS: I didn't do the art except for the tesla coil and umbrella so that I can focus on polishing
@circle Thanks, but the art isn't mine except for the tesla coil and umbrella as I wanted to focus on polishing and adding game juice.
@camden-cecrle Thanks! Me too, but I wanted to focus on the tesla coil. Glad you enjoyed!
@kwiper Thanks! I thought it was communicated during the brief intro but oh well, I guess you just wanted skipped that part. I probably should have made a quick tip during the game or I should have added it in the TL;DR part.
@marbles Oops. haha. The gameplay is really solid for what it's worth. I should have realized since there was no Graphics Category for the voting. mb.
@marbles Ahh, my bad! Yeah, I thought the intro text was just story fluff, so I mostly just skimmed through it. Should really be paying attention but there are a lot of games to go through haha. Another thing I forgot to bring up was that I thought having playable controls in the title screen was a really good idea, and helps people get comfortable with the game before actually playing it. Really cool design there!
@kwiper I agree there are a lot of games to go through haha, and I'll keep that in mind in future jams. And about the controls in the title screen, I wanted players to be able to try the controls right away instead of introducing them on a separate screen or something. Glad you saw that!
Really cool game! Pretty challenging at first and very fun after a while. It feels quite polished aswell with the small healthbar animations and other effects.
The games are intense and short! Maybe they are short because I suck, but I had a lot of fun!
I kept dying and I kept enjoying my time with it. I don't think I killed more than 10 enemies once, but I tried my best haha
Really good idea and great art! Its a bit difficult for me, but still really fun. Maybe it will be better if the enemies are weak at start and gose stronger slowly over time, so that players can enjoy a longer game. Anyway the idea of this game is very impressive, I love it! :D
@dcy11011 Thanks! Although art is not mine except for tesla coil and some few. I agree, I should have made the player's damage higher (not lower hp enemies coz damage of tesla coil is already high)
really interesting game. it felt like an unbeatable situation but was fun while it lasted.
there were some intense situations!
good job!
Question for people who's gonna see this: Is it allowed to modify the game a little post-jam? I want to increase the player's damage so it's easier to kill enemies
@marbles you can make a post-jam version of the game but the one you submit cannot be changed afaik. That was a fun game but yeah I feel like the damage was little too low.
I like tesla coils, I like that it helps shoot at stuff. And it also looks great! But the whole thing feels too hard for me. It already shoots at me in normal mode, then it just goes berserk and nukes me :D
I would prefer it if it only shoots at me in one mode, or maybe gives enough warning so you can quickly block it.
Fun idea, tesla coils are cool :) Too bad I was not dextrous enough to hold the umbrella and press the repair keys at the same time, so I usually died when the tesla went haywire. Anyway, the game had good mood and the idea was funny.
Loved how the tesla coil gets unstable, really fitting. Cool entry!
this game is pretty inetersting
Pretty intense game! I like the fusion of themes: medieval, Tesla and umbrellas) Thank you for providing good onboarding
Good game! I don't know why, but for some reason seeing the graphics, an association with the game "Impossible Creatures" appeared. Good animations!
8 kills record - maximum I can brag with :) Liked the mix of an armored knight and a tesla coil. Player damage really could be incerased. Good job creating the game!
Note: I increased the player's damage on the Web version. For those who want to play the original entry, you can download the PC builds
i survived by 4 kills lol. The game is pretty nice - interesting gameplay mechanics.
The game is really cool! It took me a second to understand everything but after that was pretty fun! Everything fits together really well. Great job!
34 kill high score B). I would love to see a version where the tesla's beams are a little more easily manipulated or telegraphed. If it targeted enemies by distance it would add another level of strategy to the game. That all being said, thank you for submitting the game I had a good time.
Great job with this submission. The idea of your defense being unstable made for a unique mechanic that I have not seen before. I think the balance of the game was a bit off with the coil attacks being random and the enemy movement speed being too high. Also, I think the controls were a bit counterintuitive when you need to repair the coil because you have to take your hands off the mouse. Overall, I enjoyed playing your game!
@idan9000 That's a nice idea. Thanks again for playing!
@matterlinx Yeah, I didn't realize the UX issue when I was making it. Thanks again for playing!
I developed a rhythm game feel
The concept is nice and the art looks really cool! You did well to increase the damage in the newer version, the other big problem I faced is that when repairing the tesla coil you have to use different keys than for moving and I don't think that was a good idea. Also, during the voting period I think you should leave the original version playable in the browser and have the fixed one as a download. Anyway good job!
@jackaljk I agree with the UX issue. I should've made it like 1,2,3,4 or something close to WASD. But I didn't make it WASD since I want the player to still be able to move while inputting keys but apparently you can't since you have to move your hands to the arrow keys.
I think I'm gonna just leave it that way, I want people to have fun instead of having a hard time killing enemies
Hey matey, thanks for submitting your game to stream, it was a lot of fun! Here's a link to the vod if you'd like to rewatch: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1171753717
love the pixel art and the game is hard and interesting haha, nice job !
Very impressive, looks great. I was a bit stunned when the code was with the arrow keys. But that became part of the challenge. Personally I would have loved a telegraph for where the next lightning would strike.
Bloody incredible mate ! I love every aspect of the game . The movement and the combat is out of this world. Maybe you could add a healing mechanic so the game lasts longer . Insane job anyways !
