Really cool take on the theme

A nicely made steelyard simulator, haha :D Would have been more fun if the material changed when you reached equilibrium instead of letting the player change it. Cool sound track :)

chameth 2021-10-04 00:23

The mechanic is cool, and I like the art and music. Feels like it needs more of a game-play loop though... Was it intended to be part of something bigger? Would love to see it developed into something with more "game" to it!

(Also TIL what a steelyard is!)

@Chameth It's a simple and ancient tool that measuring things weight.

gogu 2021-10-04 00:46

@andopp Cool! I forgot to say that if you keep your balance for a while, it will change automatically.

parafactual 2021-10-04 01:54

my first instinct was to try to break it. i failed. that aside, pretty graphics

gogu 2021-10-04 03:54

@parafactual Hahaha! I'm sorry for the stable. Have fun.

cagibi 2021-10-04 07:01

A bit too simple but very polished! This is a cool idea with some potential, I agree that a bigger game like this one can be great. Cool art and audio as well.

silkworm-sweatshop 2021-10-04 13:07

Nice, polished and strangly satisfying even though you're not doing much. I wonder if I would feel the same using the real thing or if real life is just more boring in general.

gogu 2021-10-04 13:11

@silkworm-sweatshop Reality is more instereting, my friend.

silkworm-sweatshop 2021-10-04 13:31

@gogu I guess I'll have to buy one to find out :P

I was nice, even if it looks more like a demo, especially with the possibility to freely change material. Some would be fine with this simple but polished loop, others would prefer challenge and stakes.

Maybe it would have been best to increase the unstability: the more success you have, the more it is hard to find balance? (Well, maybe you did this, I can't verify.)

Now people have an idea of what is a steelyard (it is more original than the usual scales).

It feels great care was put into making sure the physics worked well and it shows! I just love the simplicity of this game and glad to play a balancing game where I use skill versus, trial and error to make a scale balanced.

vphyre 2021-10-07 13:47

An interesting and creative concept. I think it's an excellent interpretation of the topic. The graphics are nice, and the sound is good too. The balancing mechanics are really fun. Congratulations.

mathiouza 2021-10-08 01:13

I felt like I was waiting for something. The music itself was like "So... Can you do something else?" x)

The game in itself is well executed, everything works fine and it was fun to play with this. The hands are so well done. I'm astonished to see how well you drew them ahah x)

You managed to keep the attention for a while, I think that's a good point, despite the lack of goal x) Hope this scientist will be able to make his medicine now x)

Great work!

kassanu 2021-10-08 02:13

The physics felt really good, did the elements being weighed automatically switch to a new one when it was balanced or just after a set time I didn't quite figure out if the goal was to make it completely balanced 50/50 for a set time, or have it also horizontal

gogu 2021-10-08 03:34

@kassanu Just horizontal for a while.

Thanks for feedback.

I really enjoyed the feel of this game. very simple and polished. The audio and nostalgic visuals really did it for me, I feel like I could play with this like a toy for hours. Great work, especially since its your first time with Godot!

Overall pretty chill with great mood and art style. Missing some goals/win/failure conditions or some sense of progress as you know or intended. I like the feedback/bounce/sfx on the objective complete. It might be cool to have some anticipation wiggle or vfx/sfx for that too.
