Nice, Simple but to the point. I liked the music!

Its like being a bug on a slip in slide. I like the handdrawn art. Good job

Liked the drums and handdrawn art. Could see that spiky turtle creature as a character in some horror movie! Controls are little to slippery for me but maybe my brain is just not fast enough:)

Things I liked: - music and sound - art style

Improvements: - The game moves so fast (Gravity and movement); I think it might make sense to zoom the game out a bit so that a skilled player can take advantage of the speed of the game - some animation to the assets would be nice; if you want to keep the entities stiff; try just alternating between two drawings of the same asset to give it some movement (think Doctor Katz animation).

Bugs: - you can run off the screen into unknown obstacles; or possibly skip parts of the game that way. Consider ether putting a wall, or let the player wrap-around to the other side.

I managed to get to 5 score, but this was really difficult! Love the style and artwork, animation would have been really nice, but graphics were nicely done nonetheless. The music was cool too, with a different tune for every gem, kept things mixed up. As others have said, the character's movement is really slippery, would be really good to try to tighten that up because its really difficult to control. I would also recommend shrinking the enemy hitboxes a bit - it felt a bit unfair when I was killed by a spike bug without even touching it!

Also bold move making your own font! It looks cool!

Nice submission! I think the movement is too slippy and that makes it hard to play. The sounds in general are really cool.

Congrats!

Really cool game for a compo entry! The player was way to slippery, but overall fun idea.

I really love the handmade art and music. I thought it was too difficult at the start, but then I kept coming back for more so I guess it was just right. I played the web version and found my player was off screen a lot (even after zooming out in my browser a bunch) which made it frustrating to play. Good job, that drums beat is still going in my head and the turtle will always live in my heart.

The player is a little bit floaty, but personally I love that since it makes the game harder. The fact that you made the blood effect have physics is a really nice touch, too.

Oh man, the graphics.... the fact that you handdrew your graphics and then used your phone to import them to your project.... I don't know how I could ever rate you poorly in Graphics, I'm a *huge* fan of handdrawn graphics. Nothing quite puts as much character into a game as handdrawn or handdrawn-looking graphics. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Your phone has a good camera by the way, if I hadn't have read that you used your phone to import handdrawn graphics I wouldn't be able to tell that they're pictures. (No way my phone could do that 🤣)

I love the literal hand-drawn graphics, that's a really nice touch. As others have noted, the controls are quite slippery: I found that most of my deaths were from sliding off the left or right edge of the screen, not from hitting the turtles. You can also find yourself in situations where there are two or three platforms directly underneath one another, and you physically can't move from one to the next, so you have to just kind of fall off and hope you hit something solid. The platform generation might need adjusting, so that this doesn't happen.

This is a fun game, it just needs a few adjustments to really make it shine.

The graphics and music were good, but I think you need to work on improving the gameplay. The controls felt like the character was sliding on ice, and I often died from falling off the ledge. Also, you could add more gameplay elements, like new enemy types, some kind of traps, or something like that. But still, it was a good game.

@peace-of-cake-games The phone camera actually sucks, it just comes out decent looking after post processing. I keep meaning to write up how I do it, since I think I have a method that works and should be applicable to anyone. Basically, I draw on graph paper (the lighter the graph paper the better, of course). I photo it. I put it in to Gimp, which has functionality to straighten out an image. I use the graph paper lines to straighten out the image. I then use the levels functionality to eliminate any of the non-dark lines, and then cast it to black-and-white, which become the line drawings you see in the game. I then use Gimp and a drawing pad to color in the hand drawn graphics.

I should also comment the background was done by drawing some bricks, and then using gimp's tiling tool to make it fill a screen. I had no idea it would come looking that good.

Loved the turtles  The movement mechanic was really getting on my nerves a bit, but with a little tweaking this can be a fun little endless platform faller. Needs more turtles

Next time there will indeed be more turtles. :turtle:
