Another Jam with no time do anything decent. oh well lets try again
So you go from fire pit to firepit? How long you have to go? I visited 3 firepits and get bored.
yah sorry about that. i was thinking during the last day that the map was way to large for a LD game. The point is to find the missing child that is on the other side of the map. like miles away. a good brisk 30 minute run. planned to add a lot more. like food, things to fight off. more dialog and dead people. but i didn't really start until saturday afternoon. At least i got it built before the hour was up. and fully functioning.
FYI: did a quick run through. Takes 14 minutes if you run straight north. :( well this just prepares me for the next one.
I like the idea and the amount of detail and mood you were able to create with such a short time to build. This is the type of game I would love playing. The one thing is the sensitivity of my mouse turning was a bit high and I may have spent some time spinning in circles instead of looking for the daughter when I first started. 10/10 on the creepy cabin I came across though, would gladly be unsettled again.
is there any way to adjust the mouse sensitivity? I found it a bit difficult to navigate without over-rotating
I could add a mouse sensitivity. my problem was not enough rotation and i was fighting to move at all so i cranked it up. But could just be my mouse setting. I tried controller in empty scene and was still slow for me. not sure what the issue was. PS. i timed myself on a straight run to the girl. 14 minutes. lol. sorry everyone.
Not sure if im allowed to change something like that after jam ends. I could say its a bug and work on something for it.
Good atmosphere and good graphics, I experienced some strange bugs, but it's ok
This was great atmosphere and visuals as well as the story. Feedback, the mouse is very sensitive, but I lowered my mouse sensitivity and it helped. The map is quite large, if you were to make it smaller even just for the game jam it would help everyone get the full story. I spent a fair bit of time and enjoyed it :)
I would have liked to run a little bit maybe, but it was a good first game!
Shift is run. guess i should of put up a key info on page. i will do that.
Updating mouse sensitivity options. ESC to enter it. seems to work okay. will put up WebGL version of it soon. takes forever to build unity URP webgl games.
Okay new WEBGL update with mouse sensitivity controls. Hit ESC to use. only on web browser. did not update windows version from original post. I can do that with just a build if anyone wants it. i know most will use webgl to test these games.
Very interesting! I was able to get off the map by heading straight west then scaling the hill, maybe a collider along the border might be of use there? overall good concept, keep going!
@kel haha. yah i thought someone may try that. i tried to make it really high. Should of put a box collider around the edge. Thanks for the feedback.
Yah there was a ton i wanted to add to the game. i may work on it some more and post update after jam completes...if i have time, so many ongoing projects :)
From the short bit of gameplay slice you do have, I think you did a good job of setting the mood and ambience. I also like your very minimalistic interaction UI.
I actually found the game to be unbearably dark. I'm not sure if it was the WebGL build, but the only light I had was the brief circle around me from the torch. This lead to some relatively unfun gameplay where I blidnly ran around unable to see anything. It's also not necessarily realistic, there is a lot of ambient star/moonlight that you could use to make the scene navigable and pump up the spook factor.
It's got a lot of potential, I bet with a bit more time you could turn it into a pretty slick demo!
@loginaut yah i spent a good hour or two messing with lighting. so many issues. even as is, sometimes the point light does not show up around the torch or fire pit on the terrain. no matter what i did to make it work. I gave up trying to fix it so i could get other things done in time. yah im thinking maybe i keep working on it. i think i had a good idea what to do next with it. I think going URP was my mistake. i probably would have better lighting if i didn't go that route. URP also cost me a couple hours to change things. i made mistakes. as long as i learn from them for next time. :)
@profit I have found lighting in Unity to be an absolute nightmare at times. I ended up having to spend a bunch of time wrangling the baked lighting settings just to get ours to take < 30 minutes per scene! I've had my fair share of disappointing jams, but as long as you learned some cool stuff I think it's always worth it :)
It's good that you added the mouse sensitivity cursor, the atmosphere is really nice ! We had quite the same idea for the theme :p ! Good job overall even id you feel that you it's not finished it's a good entry overall :)
Cool game! Ambitious project and I really like the intro scene.
great game
The game had me on edge when I loaded in with its spooky atmosphere. That said, I ran in a straight line for a while and couldn't find my kid. From reading your comments I think I might just not have run for long enough 😂
The sensitivity was a bit high making movement a bit janky. I really like the mood tho!
Your LOD on the leaves was a lot larger than the trees so I saw a lot of floating leaves with no trees. The skybox made it really apparent somehow. Music in the shack should probably be sourced to the radio in the corner rather than the rafters. Overall a decent game, the daughter at the end was a bit for nightmare fuel though. 30 minute playthrough is a bit long for LD for sure, but that has been mentioned. I think flow management is probably where you want to look as far as improvement. Make sure you know exactly what story you want to tell and then create a small version. You can always expand out and go bigger. Wringing things in to go smaller can be a bit of a challenge sometimes. Time is the enemy though, if you are interested I do project management both for my team and professionally, I'd be happy to give some tips and tricks of going from idea/ theme > product (even when you don't have too much time  ) Great job and getting something done regardless of your constraints though, it takes guts to submit no matter what and I think too many people have a product even further in the pipeline that this was that don't submit and the world is often worse off for it so again thanks for putting your work out there and keep it up!
Liked the concept, cool that it had voiceovers, definitely got lost more than once haha. Still had fun playing it!
Great atmosphere and very moody. I could see with more features the gameplay would be more fun too! I appreciated the compass so I knew where to walk.
@simpathey yah sure. Thanks for taking the time to play my game. I'll let you know if i do anything with it
Congratulations on your game, it has a good theme and graphics too, it reminded me of a game I saw on the itch that the player ran from campfire to campfire to prevent a monster from catching it, a big hug, if you can give your feedback to my game I will be grateful.
Nice Entry! :v:
My opinion on your game.
Good stuff: - The mood is perfect. Eerie, creepy, very atmospheric! :deciduous_tree: :fire: - Great idea to use the torch and the firepit mechanic - Interesting promise at the beginning, keeps me going - Chill music at the cabin :notes: - Nice take on the theme!
Could-be-better stuff: - No clear indication of progress. The player has no idea whether they are doing the right thing or not. - The Torch is not that easy to drain. Maybe lose more torch power when you are running?
Great game all-in-all, very creeped-out! :))
Thanks to everyone that played. I've been working on continuing this more. Better graphics in unity HDRP and lighting. building lots of models. Still not 100% sure where its going. If i create a new itch.io for it i will post the link here.
