Fun! I didn't find myself using the gun much, I think because I'm already stationary and I can't see the enemies until they're already very close to me. However, that also might just be a consequence of my playstyle.

hypercubegames 2020-10-04 23:32

Great Graphics and idea!

wrimo 2020-10-05 00:57

I like this. Fun gameplay and great graphics. I agree with United Studios that I didn't use the gun much. The axe is much more effective and you can stick in front incoming enemies and kill them as soon as they touch. I wonder how the game would be if the axe only did damage if it was moving?

quak 2020-10-05 01:58

@wrimo Thanks for the feedback! I think that could definitely encourage the player to use the gun more. If I update the game after the jam, I'll try that out.

quak 2020-10-05 01:58

@hypercubegames Thank you!

quak 2020-10-05 02:03

@untitled-studios Thanks for playing the game! I guess I had neglected the gun during playtesting. Maybe a faster fire rate or more damage would have made it a more viable option.

rost 2020-10-05 06:58

The slashing was not used most of the time, I just waited for the balls to hit the axe. Overall I think the game was fun, could be a really fun mobile game.

unevilicorn 2020-10-05 08:02

Fun game :D, the music goes well with the game. The only problem is that the gun feels very under powered compared to the axe.

quak 2020-10-05 14:46

@Rost That was originally the plan, but trying to port the game to mobile in 3 days would have been extremely difficult. I'll try that after the jam though!

quak 2020-10-05 14:49

@unevilicorn Glad you enjoyed it! I agree, the gun is quite underpowered and the axe is much more useful. I'll see if there is a way I can balance that out in the future.

mark-kelly 2020-10-05 15:38

Very fun, good job!

victor-vk 2020-10-05 15:42

Cool game, we can have some fun in it, great sound effects and the visuals too, maybe shoot faster could be good

quak 2020-10-05 15:43

@mark-kelly Thank you!

quak 2020-10-05 15:44

@victor-vk I agree, the gun was a little on the slow side which made it feel a little annoying to use. I'll keep that in mind for next time!

squareworx-studio 2020-10-05 18:38

Lots of potential, I honestly like the "trails" they are very pleasing to the eye. I won't say it matches perfectly with the rest of the graphic style, but it's still nice. I do find that I wish there was more to the game play however. Also I did not use the gun as I did not find a need for it, Slashing for the win.

quak 2020-10-05 18:48

@squareworx-studio Thanks for playing the game! I feel like if I had more time I would have updated the graphics of the game to match everything else (UI, particles and trails), but by the time all of that was added it was too late. As for the gameplay, I wasn't able to think of much that would benefit the player other than maybe an upgrade to the gun, but at the time I thought a 1 hit kill would stop people from using the axe. Thank you for the feedback!

rodgems 2020-10-05 21:59

This was good! I didn't wind up using the gun, the blade felt easier, some debuffs the enemies could apply might make the gun more feasible than the blade? Had a lot of fun with this one <3

doctormozart 2020-10-05 22:21

I enjoyed this! You chose an art style that worked very well for this style game. I really appreciated that you could destroy enemies by both hitting them with bullets and/or touching them, allowed for a changing playstyle depending on how a run was going. :smile:

digitalcrest 2020-10-06 00:15

I actually had a similar idea while brainstorming, but you nailed the execution really well in all aspects. Having melee on the "cannon" is a nice addition.

steamdr4gon 2020-10-06 00:37

I just love this music. Gameplay is also very fun, trying to find the rhythm of the incoming enemies.

quak 2020-10-06 01:23

@rodgems Thank you! That's actually a really interesting idea, I'll try it out after the jam!

quak 2020-10-06 01:24

@doctormozart Glad you had fun!

quak 2020-10-06 01:24

@digitalcrest Thanks!

quak 2020-10-06 01:26

@steamdr4gon Thank you! Credit to the artist, Abstraction. I didn't have enough time to make the music myself for this jam, but this worked a million times better.

codehacher123 2020-10-06 16:06

I loved the game, I figured out you can just spin the thing with the mouse super fast and get insane highscores.

quak 2020-10-07 18:23

@codehacher123 Thanks! I tried doing that while playing the game, but I always missed two or three enemies whenever I did.

anasmations 2020-10-07 21:29

Nice simple game, would have been awesome if you added sfx

los 2020-10-08 10:23

I liked it! Simple and well done!

koolruz 2020-10-08 22:02

Having both a weak projectile and a stronger but more dangerous physical slash was an interesting idea! I'm not sure that the two were balanced with one another, though. I ended up basically slashing everything, but maybe that was the point - It let me set my own level of difficulty, and meant that I was always in a much riskier/faster-paced situation when I wanted to be! :)

I love the chiptune soundtrack that you picked for the title screen, even if it was not composed for the jam! :) It sets a fun, high-energy mood right off the bat, which is great!

quak 2020-10-10 18:17

@anasmations Thank you! I tried to add sound effects, but I wasn't able to find a program that had the right feel for the game. Bfxr was a little to crisp and retro, but it might have still worked. Thanks for the feedback!

quak 2020-10-10 18:17

@los Thanks!

quak 2020-10-10 18:23

@koolruz Thank you! I could have spent more time trying to balance the attacks, which in hindsight would have been the smart thing to do, but I ended up focusing more on the art. The style went through a lot of stages, and it was originally meant to be a medieval game where you are defending your castle from waves of attackers. Thanks for the feedback, I'll keep it in mind for the next jam!

tverdo 2020-10-10 19:29

Simple concept and nice execution. The game was very polished and easy to understand. Nice entry overall. :)

quak 2020-10-11 15:28

@tverdo Thanks!
