Very good music & sound and art & gameplay!

caiclone 2020-10-05 12:40

The seeker and their attack animation look really good! I did found the sections between puzzles a little too long but overall loved the aesthetic and the whole mood the game had!

mincho 2020-10-05 12:47

What a strange game, I like it. Cool art and music.

harmadillo 2020-10-05 13:21

I really liked the art for the seeker.

fupi 2020-10-05 22:08

Cool! Nice graphics, the sounds are hilarious, it's not too long while also challenging, good game.

@jakobthequizguy Alright I will go in more detail:

- The start of the game really helps in building up the suspense, the story is simple and totally unnecessary, but I'm happy it was there, it adds just enough more depth to the game. - The character's movement is very fluid and the Hungry Conviction is fun to use, the level design takes advantage of that pretty well. The jump is a bit floaty but I like that, and I love how the jump height depends on how long you press the key for. - The graphics and sounds are grotesque and full of personality, there is a lot of character to this game's design. - Starting over when you get pushed to the left sucks a lot, I wouldn't have that much of a problem with that if starting back up wasn't so slow, sometimes going between sections is weird because there is so much ground between each one. - Although progression may be slow, the game ends fairly quickly. The ending is kind of disappointing because I thought the story set up in the beginning would be continued or given conclusion, even if it was just text, but the character ends pretty much in the same place as they started. I don't blame you for having a lackluster ending though, considering how my game ends. xd

That's it, your game is really simple, that's why I didn't have a lot to talk about at first.

Thanks for your kind words everyone! @caiclone yeah I unfortunately had to have those long sections as a compromise, if I didn't I'm not sure I would've gotten the loop mechanic to work in time

cogcomp 2020-10-07 15:39

Wow that seeker was creepy :-) Nicely made!

judgezedd 2020-10-07 15:41

Slightly creepy, in a good way. Had a great time with it, think you've done a great job to get a solid experience together in 48 hours.

neowedge 2020-10-07 15:54

The concept is very original, and game feeling (animations, controls and background) is very good. I would like don't have to repeat passed levels when I die :(. Good job!

jakobthequizguy 2020-10-07 20:06

Thanks guys! I'm happy you found it creepy, I was going for kind of a creepy and strange mood.

@fupi Thanks for the detailed feedback, yeah if there was one thing I could add it'd be checkpoints. The lack of them and the abrupt ending are the result of me finishing this game last minute, I agree a more thorough follow-up would've been cool :) really glad you like the intro story though, and that you like the mechanics and level design especially since those are so important.

freeworld 2020-10-08 19:06

Fantastic looking creature and animations, biting and jumping felt really satisfying in both animation and sound!

The mood feels great together with the wonky music, the colors and the background, I really like what you accomplished here!

I also found the in-between sections a bit long, but as you already mentioned that wasn't your intention but simply a time issue :P Same goes for restarting from the beginning without the pickups.

Overall a very fitting entry with a lovely character :) Nice!

nethead 2020-10-09 22:01

Love the character art/sounds and the bit of back story, plus the mechanic was fun. I found the game a little slow moving but that may be more of a personal thing? Overall the aesthetic and tone of the game was fabulous. A tiny bit more variation in environment art would be nice but that's obviously hard to get done in time for a comp entry! fantastic work overall.

gurigraphics 2020-10-10 19:54

Very funny character. hehe Good Job

jakobthequizguy 2020-10-13 11:57

@freeworld Very flattering feedback, thank you!

@nethead Also very flattering, thanks! Yes, something as simple as adding at least 2 background objects that scroll past in the background would've done a lot, shame I couldn't get to that.

@gurigraphics Thank you!

rayriver 2020-10-17 17:19

You will stuck in a loop if you don't collect all souls(?). Really cool art and nice work!

jakobthequizguy 2020-10-17 17:37

@rayriver If you don't collect all the fruits (the glowing white objects), the level repeats itself, so yes you get stuck in a loop then :) Thank you!

leon-oost 2020-10-17 19:42

The animations, surrounding and sound/music are awesome. Really cool game
