Would be nicer if you provided zipped files instead of an installer. A lot of people will be apprehensive to let unknown software make potential changes to their system.
Love the graphics. The troll is great.
The writing had some funny bits, but it started to get repetitive after a while. Maybe because I see too many trolls on the real "twister".
Retort seemed to be the best answer for most situations, but I couldn't really figure out if there was any kind of pattern to the options. I guess I'm no master troll feeder. It would be funny if you could see a few other stats, collecting likes or followers depending on your replies.
Sound effects would have really helped with the humor. I wanted to hear some fun troll grunts, yawns, and angry noises.
This is possibly the most different gameplay implemented in this jam that I've seem so far, cool! I have 2 points regarding your publication itself, not the game: 1) Description about the game 2) Pack the game into a zip instead of a installer. I've seem other Game Maker games which you just unzip and play.
That's funny: IQuit.png
Yes @fabula-rasa I could include a zip file but even those when you go to unzip even my Norton tries to block every Ludum Dare entry I've tried so far. @blushine I think you also noticed the fact that writing dialogue is pretty tough and I didn't want to make it too nasty with swearing and profanity so I started to get some writers cramp towards the end. Sounds is something I could add yet for sure but would also have to add some sort of ambient music as well if I do that.
@splitpainter Ya I guess I have better description of the game in my blog https://belowzerogames.itch.io/please-feed-my-troll/devlog/139346/ludum-dare-46-entry . I will take your suggestion and do an update on the page today after work :)
@splitpainter @blushine @fabula-rasa I updated the page to include a zip file and put some more detail on the game description
This was fun! I usually don't engage in social media so it was fun to try to feed the troll. I wish I could see the answers before sending them to figure out which is the best troll feed. Great game even without that though!
Thank you @nurkkacthulhu :) I was thinking folks would find it too easy if they saw the answers perhaps and I could not think of good answers all three ways either.
It was a fun game. It reminds of that game **Baldi's basis** I enjoyed it lot.
Great Idea, it was a bit unclear at first how the different types of "replies" relate to the topic at hand, even by reading I didn't realize at first that I *was not* the troll.
@chief141 Thank you very much for trying the game :) @emkani I think in a way you end up being a troll by trying to get a response from the troll.
I'm updating the game as we speak with some sound to improve the experience a bit :)
Great idea! I liked the way you arranged the Windows-very convenient, well done!
Seems nice, but neither the zip or the installer worked properly. I'm on windows 10 64-bits.
@mika-la-grand They should have worked fine it was built with Game Maker Studio so not sure why they wouldn't work . I know my Norton Antivirus has been blocking LDJam games perhaps your antivirus program is blocking it before it loads.
@mika-la-grand I thought about the zip file not working and I figured I should redo the zip file as I just put the installer in the zip file not the game unpacked. So I just put the unpacked game in the zip file now it should work better for you
I like the idea a lot, but I couldn't figure out what to say to keep the troll interested :(
The graphics are nice, the photos made me think of theme hospital characters.
Thanks @chuchuw it's kind of a coin toss what the right answer is , hope it gave you a chuckle.
I love the idea and I love that he is literally a troll :P
but I dont know what retort and scorn mean . I mean I don't know what to expect from each. he seems angry no matter what I say. well good thing we got rid of him in the end.
also your game is a decision-making game just like mine. I am adding your game to a list of these. check mine if you are interested:)
Scorn is when you reply to a troll example "How can you think like that because that's not very nice...." Might be effective of getting a reaction (depending on what you said) and I retort would be " Whatever troll *insert smart remark that insults troll here* " Again I made the choices sort of random (you couldn't see what you were going to say) I figured it would give you a laugh and think I'll retry the game to see what the other ones were :)
@emkani @brenan @chuchuw @blushine @chief141 @krakadushka @fabula-rasa @splitpainter Added html5 version tonight so longer need to download game just play in your browser , added sound for folks that tried it before it had sound
that's cheating, we only had 3 days to make the game, am i wrong ? ;)
It's the same game just more ways to play it ;)
Neat game concept! It is a little hard to guess how the troll will react to each option, but I was able to reach the end on the second play through. I could kind of figure out when to use agree. Choosing when to use scorn vs retort was tricky.
The writing was funny at times, but did get a little repetitive towards the end. The pause after choosing what to post is a bit long. It would probably work better to have some type of 'continue' button there.
Overall the game could use a bit of refining, but I really like the idea!
Thanks , I did get a bit of writers cramp towards the end but again not everyone is going to make it that deep if they don't guess well enough. Ya I just have a time event that restarts the room could easily just shorten the time , just want to be sure not to reset too fast though as the player might not have time to read the last post.
ill never judge a game by cover... Nice.. Brilliant idea... :joy:
hehehe trollolololol - what else to say? ok, it would be great when you could see the answers before twistering and then get the retrolling. Honestly funny!
That you @abdulla-shuhair @oillen for playing and everyone else who tried the game. I had not entered Ludum Dare for quite some time so I'm pretty happy with my scores as they are higher than some of my past entries. Nice to see folks scored high on the humor as the dialogue was perhaps the hardest part of putting this game together.
