This is very cute ! I love the graphics, it got that 2000s CGI feelings  Wish we could see the overall shape of the machine they are operating ! Maybe that could be the reward for fixing it after some time (unfortunatly the game lacks a "final goal" for now). Adding some music and sound fx would be great too !

Very cute graphics, I like the other operators and how they don't care that everything is breaking around them  I had a hard time figuring out which room was most in need of help without wasting time checking them all so some indication of the state of all the rooms might be helpful for encouraging more strategic decisions.

Liked the different camera angle. Some of the rooms is was difficult to know which key would move the robot in what direction. Need some sound effects too.

Art style was real cool. Got bored a little quickly though

I felt like a background character from a Star Trek episode and it was perfect. :)

The idea is cool, and the graphic style is interesting, however the controls and camera movement make it a pain to navigate. I would recommend making the movement be relative to the viewer, not to the world.

romarogov 2020-04-22 20:37

Game looks nice, but controls freaks me out, especially in side rooms. However, idea and graphics is good!

finn-truman 2020-04-22 20:51

I liked the look and idea of this, but there are two things that hold it back: very slow movement, which makes getting anywhere a chore; and world aligned movement controls that mean when the camera is at an angle, it's difficult to guess where you're going to walk. But its looks wonderful, and the toon shader is really nice! Did you really make the shsader yourself?

brndncn 2020-04-22 21:02

@finn-truman thanks for the feedback! I hadn't considered speeding up the character, but I think it would also make the game feel more exciting! Maybe in the future I'll add a run button. The toon effect is done in two parts, MeshToonMaterial and OutlineEffect from three.js (shown in [this](https://threejs.org/examples/#webgl_materials_variations_toon) demo).

Hi, neat game idea! Like other's have said, the controls freak out a little as the camera rotates - making it possible to get "stuck" on geometry, and it's hard to know what rooms need repairing as there's no audio/visual cue (I think?) to know that something is going wrong somewhere.

An issue I had when I started was, because you enter the game by an upward ladder, into a room with only a downward ladder, I assumed that going down the ladder would take me back to the "tutorial room". As a result I spent a while standing in the "top" room doing nothing, with no consoles breaking, before happening to try the ladder and realising "oh, there's a whole load of rooms to explore!".

If you were to work on this game after the compo, it'd be cool if the "big robot" you seem to be operating was achieving something, so you could prioritise fixing stuff that would let you achieve the level (like, fix the gun room to survive, or fix the bottom room to ensure the robot escapes, etc.!)

Cool little game, it fits the theme. Good job!

capital-asterisk 2020-04-25 21:35

This art style is unlike anything I've seen in a while, it's great.

There isn't really anything that encourages the player to keep playing though. The movement can also use a bit more vector math (which is hell for most people but is worth it most of the time). Adding a tiny bit of audio can make a pretty big difference in this game, even just a ladder climbing sound.

Very cute art-style, I specially like the fact that the room rotates when you move around in it. The game had a lot of humor as well

I managed to get a pretty good score I think, but in the end I lost.

Great take on the theme!

Loved the artstyle, lacks audio. Had simple gameplay, and could use a bit more polishing to make character doesn't get stuck. High Score: 22700

I agree with the others, nice art style there. I agree with @omaskery , it would be nice to have some doable objective in the game.
