Quite nice and fun game

patsui 2020-04-21 19:05

Great art and music! The atmosphere was nice :)

The ghost was a little slow to my taste, other than that great job!

lukebandy 2020-04-21 19:38

Great mechanics, I'd be really interested to see some time spent on levels with difficulty between that of the 2nd and 3rd post-jam!

briibot 2020-04-21 20:57

Very cute! I loved the atmosphere, and the visuals of it were easily charming enough to draw me in - the monster is excellent, and weeny is adorable! I think I got the version where level 2 was impassable, but i enjoyed all the other levels besides - there was a noticeable difficulty spike, but not to the point where the difficulty got impeccably frustrating! A proper challenge between keeping a close eye on my ghost and the monster haunting it! Gotta love when the weenie willingly walks into death because it's between it and the much desired candy, lmao. I would love to see a bar of some variety indicating how far along the trap bar is to recovering - there were certainly a few tense moments in there where i was out of traps, but with no indication about how long I had to go.

The musical score for it was nice and very fitting! You all did a wonderful job!✧

theomelet 2020-04-24 13:55

I'm overall impressed with the game - both graphics and mechanics are really fun. I really liked the preventing the chase while at the same time steering the character with the same mechanics.

vernalbehemoth 2020-05-05 07:23

Loved the game mechanics. Well done getting so much done in the time frame of this jam!

This could definitely be made into a post jam game :D

kate90 2020-05-06 16:59

Well done game, good submission. I like especially the art.

cdunham 2020-05-07 19:07

Pretty challenging puzzle game. Seems to have a mini tutorial then ramps up in difficulty. I think having some smaller levels to introduce new mechanics would've been better for pacing the player. Still enjoyed it though!

duke 2020-05-07 21:35

Fresh idea! I already played some games that had a similar premise but not to such an extend. The graphics and music were nice, no problems on that front! The game play loop itself was a little slow and could get frustrating fast when you spent minutes over minutes watching that little guy make it's way and a little error sends you back to the main menu. I guess that the general walking speed could be increased or there could be an option to fast forward. Most of the game play was just waiting around. The controls were generally fine, but there were some issues with the WASD camera movement. Diagonal scrolling did not work and some levels scrolled faster than others, which was a little tricky to control and felt quite off.

Other than that, I liked some of the game design choices you implemented. The foreshadowing of the movement of each of the characters was a great help to deal with the choices. Kinda hat a pac man vibe going. I did play the first few levels but got bored at the third halfway through due to the slow and passive nature of the game. The pacing should be improved before all else. Keep the player engaged with more than just clicking some tiles every few seconds. Since the main guy had a predetermined path through the levels (at least it felt like it) it didn't feel like I had that much agenda and/or freedom. A little more involvement would go a long way!

Still, a good game in it's core :) Just needs some polish and more game play mechanics. Keep it up!

chrisevry 2020-05-07 23:57

Really nicely done! Reminded me of playing Lemmings when I was a kid and getting really frustrated they couldn't keep themselves alive. :) Great work on the music too, did you compose the track during the 3 days too?

red-ash 2020-05-09 09:22

I liked the art, its kinda cute. I also liked the dungeon atmosphere. The game has an interesting mechanic, but is a bit too slow for me. Overall, pretty cool game :)

tropos 2020-05-11 18:20

@patsui, @red-ash, we didn't have enough time to speed up the game and check all the levels for passability. I load a new build, in which we slightly accelerated the gameplay and corrected the interface in some places.

@briibot, if you are mean the energy recovery indicator, I think it would be a good idea to do this.

@duke thank you so much for the great feedback, I've slightly improved the camera controller and the pace of the game, but I think the problem with player engagement is still present :c

@cdunham, we started making tutorial levels, but we didn't have enough hours to finish them for all types of traps. Because of this, a serious game starts a little early.

@chrisevry, yes, the music and sounds were made by @grmnzr within three days. We remembered about Lemmings after we started implementing this game. I'm glad someone else remembers them :)

And thanks for your comments too: @twigames, @lukebandy, @theomelet, @vernalbehemoth, @kate90. I wish you all good results on this ludum and good luck on the next jams!

A really cute entry, very underrated, truly a hidden gem! The gameplay was really fun compared to most games (3 days isn't exactly much to come up with a pefectly balanced and finished gameplay, haha) also the graphics and music + mood were great! Really well done for a gamejam! Things I would improve for the post-jam version if you decide you want to continue working on it and then maybe put it on Steam for a couple of bucks ^^: - improve the hitboxes for the click function, it happened to me quite a lot of times that I clicked the pad before the one I actually wanted to activate, accidentally killing weeny or helping the monster kill Weeny; in addition I would recommend adding visual indicators, meaning highlighting the asset which would be activated as soon as you hover over it - with an outline for example is a pretty standard way of doing that and therefore comprehensive to most players I would imagine :) you can also use an outer glow to further enhance the "spooky, ghostly mood" of your game ;D - add a bit more animations and eye candy :D - gameplay wise it's already pretty fun, but if you want to add more levels, maybe add functions to be able to control Weeny? for example placing additional candy? Which requires the player to think about careful placement, because you might as well seal your own fate if you do it in a bad way! :) - add difficulty settings (like if the player chooses harder the cooldown for the assets to use is longer) or add a ranking to the levels (classic 3 stars system), if the player chooses the perfect/shortest/quickest way it's 3 stars, maybe add a time or step counter to indicate this - depending on how much you tweak the complexety of the gameplay, might want to add a pause mode, where you can look at the map while everything is on hold, which would make the game even more about organizing the perfect route/strategy for Weeny, could imagine this to be fun! Maybe add like an extra candy for Weeny to obtain? Like if you choose to go for this achievement you have to pull down a block or something and as soon as you do that Weeny goes after it and then there's no turning back so you better succeed ^^ just an idea to add extra content for the ambitious players ;D - nicer transitions to the UI, maybe add specific game-over animations, like the monster (idk what the monster plans on doing ;)... eating Weeny? ^^), or Weeny falling into the lava etc, and then like a nicer transition to the UI ->x either animate the UI element (add an UI element ;)) falling down, or fading in or something....? - play a bit around with post processing effects - I can imagine bloom being a good choice ;D - choose a more fitting font, idk if you knew that, but you just have to paste the font file into the fonts folder of Unity :) - add your "game studio" logo inside of the splash screen, add a little Icon for the .exe: not really part of the game itself, but I always like to do this as it's quickly done in the build settings and makes the whole thing feel more like a "real game" ;D

Again, good job! Congrats to the team, you can be proud of yourselves!

tropos 2020-05-11 20:04

@fatpenguin Wow, thank you for this lovely review ^^ I hope the team and I can make a big version of post-jam. Many of your suggestions look very interesting! We also planned things like animation, UI, pause, and various project settings initially, but we didn't have time to do this. Too much in just three days :) And I missed the bug with the bad hitboxes. Thank you for reporting this!

fatpenguin 2020-05-11 20:33

@tropos no worries, I get it the deadline is insane every single time, that's why I put it under "Improvements for your post-jam version" :D We also plan to work on our game as a little side project :) (Also the deadline was too short! haha) The hitbox thing wasn't too bad, it didn't break the game or anything, just, you know, something you should definitely do if you want to polish :) Happy developing <3

pineapple-po 2020-05-11 20:55

@fatpenguin, this is the most useful answer, Thank you. we will definitely take this into account!! thank you for your nice feedback, this is very important to us.

fatpenguin 2020-05-11 21:16

@pineapple-po you're welcome, glad if I could help a little, I'm sure you will make something great! And hey, if you ever want a break from developing, you can try our game if you want ;D (no pressure, haha)

fireslash 2020-05-12 04:45

Cute little game.

The art is lovely and the audio backs it up nicely. Everything more or less worked as I expected, though it wasn't immediately obvious I had to move the camera myself. I would have liked to either see a wider camera angle such that this wasn't needed, or a self-moving camera mechanic of some kind.

Gameplay felt slow (as you seem to have already noticed) but ultimately the game loop is always going to be a bunch of waiting. I'm not sure how to solve this without drastic changes to your design.

Overall a fun little entry. Could use a bit more polish in some spots, such as the menus and transitions, but you appear to be on top of that as well.

omickron 2020-05-12 14:27

A good and simple game. I would like more in-game actions. The graphics are on top.

cancerous 2020-05-12 14:29

Feel the game was a bit too slow but really enjoyed the atomosphere the game gave. The music and artwork is amazing.

asfdfdfd 2020-05-12 19:54

Sorry, Weeny, but you have to die today :(
