The aesthetic is on point! I did end up sort of finding a spot that generated a solid combo and kept clicking my mouse without moving it.

I'm not really sure what the point was. It's got the seeds of something fun, but didn't feel quite finished.

The sound effects were a lot of fun though! The music and sounds didn't seem to play at the same time?

Thanks for making it web accessible :)

@jpv Yes there was still a lot of other stuff in my original plan, more arena placeables to create interesting interactions, but unfortunately didn't get to that. There is never really a point where sound and music play together I think, again due to time.

Good sound effects. Great sense of humour!

I love games with upgrades! Things get pretty funky when you have max everything out :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: Screenshot_20200421_144936.png

Gladiators go crazy with max bounciness and it even crashes sound. "Are you not entertained?!" takes on a new meaning when some of them literally end up outside colosseum.

theozonebe 2020-04-21 14:08

@bongo227 @exewin Yeah I noticed when developing, actually left it in because I liked the idea of upgrading until you literally break the game :stuck_out_tongue:

lmb 2020-04-21 14:40

As others kind of said, I believe this could become significantly with a few more hours of work (looking at things bouncing is still entertaining after all those years!). For example, I can't lose, can I?

Interesting interpretation of the theme!

You probably know this, but with enough gladiators and bounciness, the simulation explodes. (But great that you killed gladiators after some time, so that this doesn't crash the game!) I was consistently getting ~7000x combos at some point, with the simulation exploding every time.

Thanks for making and sharing the game!

Pretty cool game with an unusual setting. The sound and screams of the public do wonders for the mood of the game! I do wish that some more gladiator types existed, as well as some way to lose.

It looked very pixelated and compressed to me:

@hanamigi I also noticed this in the published version, it did not occur during development. And because I used vector graphics I thought the game would just be able to be scaled to any size. Guess there is more to it than that.

pandakipu 2020-04-22 19:05

Damn, it's addictive, i stop when my guys cost 218M ^^

masaru 2020-04-29 15:37

That's a lot of fun ! If I wanted to give tips, there's two things : it gets out of hands (to the point where you don't care about money) a little bit too fast and also... when you max stuff, this happens : https://youtu.be/MdxNfspBXcw and it's very cool for the eyes but not so cool for the ears !

mikouaji 2020-05-03 17:03

Hahaha so simple yet so fun :D tried to get a multiplier of 10k but something over 7k was the best i could get :D

josh-riley 2020-05-03 22:36

It's a really cool concept, but I wish it went a little deeper (although I guess that's not really the point of LD). It seemed really easy to find a sweetspot, and just click over and over. If there were a few more complex interactions this could have really shined. I think this is definitely an idea worth coming back to.

I'm so surprised this game is much more interesting than it seems like!

Not sure if there is a limit of adding more gladiators.

I believe this is the best result I can have.
