Nice game
Really interesting and unique concept you made, would love a commercial product in the future
Although it didn't really have much to do with the theme, I thought this was a very fun game. I am not normally good at platformers, however I found some of the jumping puzzles very interesting, having to think about how you move in mid air to actually make the was surprisingly intuitive.
I also must say I didn't realize the relation to the dirt blocks and gravity until I got the pickaxe, it was an enlightening moment haha.
I thought that the ability to build would make the game super easy, but somehow it only got harder past that point, which I put down to good level design!
The only thing I would have done to improve is add audio, just a little jump and landing sound or something, but it's a jam, so it's understandable if you didn't have time.
By trying to play you game I realized Java was not installed on my PC :D,
The physic is uncommon and I am not quite sure I clearly understand how it worked ^^ something like darker means less gravity ?.
I really liked the big leap of faith jump (which was avoidable by overusing placing/removing blocks) and the mechanism of placing/removing blocks and especially the way it used used for "puzzle jump".
I was not really convinced by the edit mode but enjoyed the platformer
*I know it's not that easy with the time constraint*
- Try to give the possibility to control with **WASD/ZQSD** as well as **Arrow Keys** It feels more natural for me since my mouse is also on the right side of my keybord and it felt unbalanced - You should add invisibles walls everywhere arround the map to avoid infinit fall (hopefully their is the respawn system)
It's pretty good. The one suggestion I would make is to have the player's hitbox be a bit smaller, but it's still quite smooth and nice.
Sorry but couldn't get it to run. It throws this error message:
**WARNING: An illegal reflective access operation has occurred WARNING: Illegal reflective access by org.lwjgl.LWJGLUtil$3 (file:/Downloads/Private%20Universe/private-universe.jar) to method java.lang.ClassLoader.findLibrary(java.lang.String) WARNING: Please consider reporting this to the maintainers of org.lwjgl.LWJGLUtil$3 WARNING: Use --illegal-access=warn to enable warnings of further illegal reflective access operations WARNING: All illegal access operations will be denied in a future release Inconsistency detected by ld.so: dl-lookup.c: 112: check_match: Assertion `version->filename == NULL || ! _dl_name_match_p (version->filename, map)' failed! **
Cool game! If only the game was explained a bit more..
Really liked the concept of space/atmosphere around the blocks and gravity modifiers. I still gave you points for theme as you start with nothing and gain something along the way (understanding of game mechanics and ability to edit the world).
The concept is really interesting! The part where you need to go the other way first to obtain height, then go towards a platform, proves the concept well. The game becomes even more interesting when you get the pickaxe; even though you weren't able to implement resource scarcity, it's still somewhat challenging because of the gravity mechanics.
The game is obviously lacking quite a bit of polish, but I'm sure you know that :) I hope you expand on Private Universe, there's nuggets of interesting ideas here!
@vectorwolf Can you try this alternate build of the game? http://www.mediafire.com/file/2nf8lc0pxgl59uo/Private_Universe_Alternate.rar/file
If that doesn't work, I don't think I can fix the issue though.
@zathnic Thank you, that alternate build worked great. You executed the concept really well! I as a player feel really smart when making a difficult jump by taking the gravity of the environment into account. Often jam games albeit looking good just don't make any fun, but your game really delivered. A great entry!
I love how the physics of each block vary, and the puzzles in the end of where to place earth blocks and which ones to remove so you can get enough momentum on your jumps were really cool. The hit box of the coconut is a little bit weird since it has the same size of the other blocks while the image has just half size, I ended up many times hitting those hazard blocks and feeling a bit unfair. Other than that, nice game. Good job :)
The altering gravity is a really interesting concept that could fir perfectly in a puzzle game. The size of the player hitbox made the platforming kinda frustrating tho.
Very interesting jump mechanic! I wouldn't have minded a few more jumping puzzles before the mining came into the game. I also think it would've been interesting if you have to mine the blocks that you want to place. But in any case a solid game, well done!
I liked this! But I think it could be more clear, how the blocks change the gravity, as it had me guessing if darker means being lighter.

This was a simple nice platformer. That gravity mechanic is really cool. And there were multiple ways to explore, beyond looking for pickaxes!
One thing I would say, it is hard using arrow keys and mouse (since both are primarily for the right hand) so I had to squeeze up my left hand on the arrows, and mouse hadn right next to it when playing:

Consider adding support for WASD, in addition to the arrows?

I LOVE the gravity platformer concept.
wow Nice Game ! :)
Cool gravity mechanics addition on top of a platformer. I got stuck though, when I collected a 3rd or 4th checkpoint that was on 4 white blocks. I kept jumping up and was constantly getting respawned, which I though was a bug, but then I realized I'm hitting dark blue blocks above me, which are under another 4 white blocks. After trying to jump for several minutes, I was not able to land on any other platform, however much I was trying... :)
Oh and I also finally managed to jump so far right, that I fell outside of the respawn blocks, so I got stuck even more :)
Nice game! I liked the idea and gameplay :).
Cool level design and gameplay idea, very unique! I played through to the end and I think my only complaint would be that it could use a bit more checkpoints. Really great overall!
