Such a nice puzzle prototype :) It seems realy robust to build up opon this.

Very fun to play! I had a great time with this game! :D

xedur 2019-10-08 10:14

This game is a lot more polished and well-planned than I would have expected. It was great fun and I think it'd work as a great base for a larger release! Nice concept and great execution.

Very solid. The length-based movement limitation for the snake is a great mechanic, intuitive and allows for constructing simple riddles, sequences that can only be done in a certain order, as shown by some of the levels. You should definitely consider adding more levels, I'm curious to see if any less trivial puzzles could be constructed for the mechanic.

A short puzzle snake game, very nice. You tried to fool me on level 3 (i think it was) but saw thru that haha. Polished and cute, good job!

The visual aspect is really nice. You just should make more levels. Thank you for this entry

the sound of the death made me laugh lol, it's a cute, childish and funny game with a nice and original graphism !

Is this inspired by Snakebird by any chance? You've put together a fantastic looking package here with some adorable art/sound design, and some pretty fun little puzzles. This could be expanded out into a full thing very easily, I imagine.

Is it intentional that falling into a fruit doesn't seem to eat it?

frozencow 2019-10-10 19:00

@mathemagician Thanks! It wasn't clear initially whether it should eat while falling, I think eventually we decided it should but didn't have time to fix it unfortunately :D

Yes, a friend showed me Snakebird. It wasn't inspired on Snakebird, but it ended up with a very similar mechanic. Still need to give that game a go.

Super polished! This would be awesome to play on your phone! You could totally publish it on playstore! It would bring the mood up if you included some music or sound effects! Otherwise this feels very professional! Good luck and i hope to see you participating in the next jam! :D

Sounds like an idea for a Post Compo version! Simple (?) mechanic change and a menu, leave the levels (almost?) where they are (unless something became unwinnable).

I like that the graphics are simple and crisp, rather than 3d render or something, because there's some counting involved.

I haven't tried level 3 much as I post this, but what's interesting by not allowing a "simple fall" on the apple is it takes some finesse to get the height sequencing right. Certainly the gravity is rather strange!

Tip for people: check your browser zoom. While some people can do it, you shouldn't have to go after the tree "blind" - zoom out so you can see the tableau.

Update: That aspect made level 2 much harder for me than many of the succeeding levels. And in fact, if you didn't want to change the mechanics, just swap level 2 into the end! The rest are far easier! I had to do some sophisticated counting for level 2, and the rest felt much more natural. But pleasant little game!

I love the graphics! The game mechanic is very good and there are some interesting puzzles. The game is easy, but satisfying! Very well done! good job:)

I loved the turn-based physics and the way I was left to explore the rules on my own. The art is super-charming and very effective, and the sound effects were also pretty nice.

Level 2 was a miss for me because I had to stab randomly out in each direction, sometimes off onto whole blank screens. I would have preferred some indication of where the goal was. After playing, I see from another comment that you can zoom out to see it, but the very nice art style really doesn't look nearly as good zoomed out that far. The large chunky art was a strength, and that one level felt at odds with it.

Level 1 was great though - a nice intro to the mechanics though, with the way it sets you up for that subtle stumble that's easily recovered from, making you realize "on I can't just go up, there is actually gravity here."

And I enjoyed the various little iterations for all the other levels.

Overall a nice puzzler with some cool rules and a nice presentation - well done!

I've already saw a game using that mechanics but it was still a nice game to play ! Good job !

I've finished your game once. Oh man, i love your gameplay so much. And sounds!

knatt 2019-10-27 19:33

Good submission! It was easy to pick up and the graphics were cute! Id like to see more

roka-josh 2019-10-27 19:51

Very fun game, although worryingly similar to snakebird. I would be tempted to add in a mechanic to further seperate the game, as in its current state it looks like a copy. Despite this however, the presentation and polish is phenomenal and super impresive for the time scale so well done!

digitaldude555 2019-10-27 20:07

Nice and unique artstyle and gameplay, the snake game works well with the theme. Good job.
