A good game, but it could've been longer. Also, I think that some music, even if it's not yours, would've made the game a lot more enjoyable. Having someone in your team skilled in story-writing also would've helped I think, but that's not always an option unfortunately. Overall, I would've loved to see a longer version of this game.

merkisoft 2019-10-07 19:41

omg, taff story, especially as a dad of two kids. i liked the maze a lot. that alone could just have been the game, but you built the story well around it. rate more games, so that others will rate yours! you deserve it.

nachtwitch 2019-10-08 17:07

The story deserves a full game, would definitely bye the game id that happens, love the game

jordanvang 2019-10-08 17:21

Oh wow, that was super wholesome. I really liked that. The controls were nice, although a little clunky sometimes. My mouse would freak out every few seconds, which made traversing the maze a nightmare, but it was extremely well done. The visuals were really stylized in my opinion, and the fact that the only thing that had color was N seems very interesting to me. I think the only things to do would be to incorporate more story, and then as stated above, definitely have some music or ambient noise, even if it isn't yours. It really goes a long way.

empheon 2019-10-08 17:26

The animation at the beginning is neat! The game itself is a bit short, but with more time I'm sure it would be great! Well done for yout first entry

catie-jo 2019-10-08 17:45

Hey, congrats on your first LD game! The concept is really interesting -- I like the maze concept a lot.The selectively visible maze was an especially cool mechanic! Sounds like you had some great takeaways too (especially with scoping and playtesting -- I feel like I keep learning those over and over again haha)

Two points of feedback:

First, even though I read through the how-to on your game page, it still took me a bit to understand the question mechanic. especially since there was only 1 option for the first two questions. I ended up figuring out how to get to the switch before N had gotten there with the question (he was still on "Are you ok" because I hadn't pressed 1), and then spent a long time trying to flip it myself. I think always having more than one option, and also numbering the responses, could help with that. Also, if someone doesn't answer a question in time, I think it's fine to overwrite it in favor of the more recent one -- that way even if someone doesn't figure out the question mechanic, they can still move forward with the puzzles!

The other feedback I have is concerning the camera -- since I didn't have feet, it was sometimes really hard to gauge where I was, so I kept falling off (especially in the second part). Additionally, something about the width of the field of view and mouse-controlled rotation made me nauseous after awhile (I'm more prone to this than the average person though, so I'd ask others for feedback as well).

Overall, this is a really impressive solo game! Good luck with your future games! :smiley_cat:

Really cool game ! I liked the pace a lot.

Good job :)

feingehacktes 2019-10-09 11:48

The game has a nice start, sets up the mood pretty good. The particle effects of N are also really fitting. As already mentioned the question/answer mechanic was a bit unintuitive. There could either be a simple on screen text explaining how it works or a number before the answers.

Sadly i had a bug that prevented me from completing the first "puzzle" (where you walk on the pillars). I had huge black bars across the viewport which prevented me from seeing the ground blackBars.jpg

Played the web version with Chrome Version 77.0.3865.90 (Official Build) (64-bit).

I would like to give it another try if you can fix this issue

rroni 2019-10-09 12:11

Hey sorry I haven't answered any questions! I'll try and do so now! :P

rroni 2019-10-09 12:12

@aleks Hey thanks for the feedback! I completely agree that some music would have spiced up the game a lot! Also yeah storywriting isn't my thing :D

rroni 2019-10-09 12:14

@merkisoft Thank you very much! I personally didn't enjoy the maze so I kept it short, but hey it's good that someone did! :D

rroni 2019-10-09 12:16

@nachtwitch Ahw thanks! Sorry to disappoint but I think I'm not going to continue this project :P Try making one yourself!

zimennik 2019-10-09 12:19

Yeap. It was too short =) Love that little guy. Dialig system was amazing. I would love to play more!

rroni 2019-10-09 12:21

@jordanvang Heyy! Glad you liked it! Ah sorry about the mouse thingy, hmm wonder what caused that  My friend actually suggested me to leave out everything non-colored! It does give a bit of style indeed! Aaaan about the music, yeah I'll try and do that for the next jam! :D

rroni 2019-10-09 12:23

@empheon Thanks a lot! Yeah I was quite proud of the animation at the start, although I could have made the start a little less boring by adding more stuff to it  Thank you!

nachtwitch 2019-10-09 12:26

Thanks, I'm not disappointed if you don't want to continue, it's your work and I won't stop or force you

rroni 2019-10-09 12:32

@catie-jo Wooaah ginormous response! Hey thanks! Yeah I participated in a mini-jam before and I did that project with too big of a scope as well :joy: Hopefully next time I realize to make my scope like supersupersuper small!

Allrighty first point. The dialogue system could have been made a LOT better. I completely see how it is quite confusing to someone who hasn't played the game a 100 before :D I had it in mind that you could just go on without answering dialogue, but I decided to stick with how it is currently. I really wanted the player to have a conversation with N.

Your second point is quite interesting  I've never heard of people getting nauseous from 1st person games :P Sorry about that!

Thank you oh so much for your feedback, it means a lot to me! Good luck to you aswell! :cookie: :milk:

rroni 2019-10-09 12:33

@meta-link Heyy, glad you enjoyed! Also thanks! :)

rroni 2019-10-09 12:37

@feingehacktes Hey, thanks! Yup agree with you about the dialogue system! Ohh that looks bad... I have no idea what's going on there :joy: Yeahhh I'm not really sure what I can do about that, soryy! :P

rroni 2019-10-09 12:39

@zimennik Heyyy! Yeeaaah I ran out of time :( I like the little guy too! :) Thanks!

t-bo 2019-10-09 17:03

Nice game ! Awesome environment and beautiful use of the light on this game ! Amazing !

rroni 2019-10-10 13:50

@t-bo Thank youuu!

elbidev 2019-10-10 14:50

Cool graphics and interesting concept had fun playing

w0lfenstein 2019-10-10 15:27

I like games with deep meaning and I hope you'll continue your creation. Cute graphics and sounds, but you need to make controls easier. Playing with very high sensitivity is so hard :). Good luck and nice work!

rroni 2019-10-13 15:33

@elbidev Hey, awesome!

rroni 2019-10-13 15:35

@w0lfenstein Thank you tons! Ahw dang it, you could've adjusted the sensitivity! Should have prolly made some quick tips in-game for that! :P Anyways thanks!

emiliabea 2019-10-13 17:08

Your intro scene alone is strong and it kept me engaged in the game, making me want to play more

roka-josh 2019-10-13 18:35

Nice game, despite having little to no colour I think the art style works perfectly to set the atmosphere. I would love to see this be fully developed into a puzzle/story game as I found it incredibly captivating. Amazing job!

monish-vyas 2019-10-13 18:40

Interesting concept. The game looks polished. and question answer mechanic was good. I could change my imaginary friend's color in the game that was cool. I wish I could do that in real life :). Overall a nice game. Congrats on finishing your game in your first jam!

rroni 2019-10-13 18:53

@emiliabea Thank you and awesome! I really liked it aswell! :)

antarcticruler 2019-10-13 18:57

The graphics really contributed to a good atmosphere! Theres not much in terms of graphics, but the text, and the intro cutscene, as well as the dim to non-existent lighting really helped. Good job!

rroni 2019-10-13 18:58

@roka-josh Thank you lots! I think I actually have to reaconsider continuing development on this

rroni 2019-10-13 19:06

@monish-vyas Thanks! Glad you liked the color thingy! Thank you, I did put a lot of work into this! I will go easier on myself in the next jam :)

bradleyashley 2019-10-13 19:14

I double checked the controls and was excited to get the switch activated so I could check out that hallway. Walking the cavern path out was fun and I liked the teasing from the companion. The first time the companion leaves you you actually feel concerned for it since it's been with you from the beginning, crossed the cavern with you and has been keeping you company. Some onscreen control prompts will go a long way so I do suggest that if you keep developing this! This is a great start to an adventure game.

hermitao 2019-10-14 21:09

Thank you for the game!! I liked it, and I loved how you made N follow you and talk to you. It was very satisfying. The game was a bit heavy on performance over here. The only thing I missed was some music. Great game!!

rroni 2019-10-17 20:53

@bradleyashley Thanks for the constructive feedback, I appreciate it! Also I'm glad you enjoyed the game!

rroni 2019-10-17 20:59

@hermitao Yeah I definitely should have left more time for optimization in the end! Thank you! :)

2019-10-23 16:44

Very nice presentation of the story. I included it in my Ludum Dare 45 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/ZxefAL2rBy8

@jupiter-hadley Thank you!
