Interesting game, do you make games in your spare time outside if game jams perhaps?

randomnine 2019-10-08 17:16

Heya! The itch.io link isn't working for me. Is the game's page down?

nickykendy 2019-10-09 02:55

@nachtwitch Nah. Only the purple fog is a shader I made long time ago, everything else comes from scratch. And it really exposes my lack of exercise in art and code, took me really long time to finish the basic loop

nickykendy 2019-10-09 02:58

@randomnine The link still works, as I tried just few minutes ago. Is it just the download link not working? Or the whole page?

jakemchugh1 2019-10-09 06:36

It says 404 not available

dxk2294 2019-10-09 07:20

Unfortunately I can't access the link. Did you make sure to make the game public?

toasteater 2019-10-09 11:54

The download link seems to be broken for me as well.

nickykendy 2019-10-09 13:04

@dxk2294 Oh! Turns out there is a Visibility & access setting, and I didn't change it into public... sorry

nickykendy 2019-10-09 13:05

@jakemchugh1 I find my mistake keeping the Visibility & access unpublic...my bad. Now it's fixed!

eggshelldog 2019-10-09 14:58

wow nice I will tell you the truth for a beginner this is pretty good The graphic is fine, for a game jam, you just need img that player can tell what that is. But the gameplay is shit, it is actually quite painful to play with, everything is too slow, player's movement, attack speed... and the combat is totally not satisfying I even need to talk to that coach guy again after I died, and sometime the game just bug and I can't talk to that guy again to open the portal. so I need to restart the game

However! However You say your level design is crap, that's not true, The three level, each time I found what you did, I wow. That's unexpected in a game like this, You confused the player with how they can get the sword and you let a monster to push it to me by physic, You tell me I can jump on a monster when I am trying to fight it, and you let it move to the place I should jump to. And in last level, you combined these two features to let player complete the game That's level design. That's good in a game jam.

Keep it on.

nickykendy 2019-10-10 09:17

@eggshelldog Thank you! For giving me such detailed, honest, and serious comment which I need. To be honest, I was a little regret and shame to post this game because deep down I know, this isn't even a proper game, no sound, no polish, lack of everything at every aspect. After I played many games others made, that "little" become large...But there are good things! I know now what was not being done, what skills I'm lack of, how I'm gonna use 48hours properly. Your every criticism is right on the mark. And thank you for your encourage! No doubt I will keep it on, and bring a better game on the next LD.

ogre 2019-10-12 05:06

This is good stuff. Walking on the slimes to solve the levels is a good idea. Starting with nothing and having to get your sword on each level is good use of the theme. I laughed at the dialog.

Not so great things: Starting over at the stranger each time instead of just starting the room again. The character is too slow, would like to move faster. Although I didn't have any problems getting the sword, it seems like it's not deterministic how the slimes push it. It could wind up somewhere inaccessible if there were more complicated levels in the future.

Great effort overall!

vinnienovido 2019-10-12 08:29

I really liked the artwork. The character felt a bit slow but at the samt time it added to the challenge of the game.

Well done!

nickykendy 2019-10-12 15:18

@ogre Thank you! It must be painful with such control. I will try to fix some issue, add the sound maybe. Not for anyone, but for my first LD effort to be a good memory.

trito 2019-10-12 16:29

I think you are being to hard on yourself in the game description. Well done for being first game! Good game idea too. I also entered my first game here. It's not easy the first time. I spend most of my time doing a tutorial. :D But I learnt a lot, so it was fun!

nickykendy 2019-10-13 02:46

@vinnienovido @trito Thank you, your liking and encourage gives me so much strength!

rodrigo-robles 2019-10-13 13:05

Interesting game. I liked the care you had to teach the player with the NPC. Of course you can improve some things. The player can move faster. But it's a good start, you can invest and turn it a large game.

cdunham 2019-10-13 20:15

For your first LD game, and a compo game at that, you should be proud that you got something playable! I like how you have to maneuver around the slimes so you can get a sword to attack with. It makes for a bit of a puzzle in an otherwise hack and slash game. Keep up the good work

xotsu 2019-10-15 09:26

Well made game congrats

nickykendy 2019-10-16 02:24

@rodrigo-robles Thank you! That's what I want to express. And of course I intent to improve sth~ ~

nickykendy 2019-10-16 02:26

@cdunham HaHa! I learned my pixel art through youtube mostly. When actually pixel a whole game, that's really a challenge for me. Thank you for your kindness encouragement.

dcrdro 2019-10-16 10:40

Nice try! Though game is raw, there are some cool features, like pretty neat graphics, jumping on slimes, pushing the sword by slimes ;D Keep going ! :D

paulo-brunassi 2019-10-16 15:51

Cute graphics and beautiful attack animation. Keep up joining LD and you'll really see yourself progressing as a gamedev. Good job!

realitycheck 2019-10-17 23:14

Not at all bad for your first game jam game. I did enjoy the idea behind it - especially riding on the little slimes to get where I needed to go. That took a moment of thought before I realized I could do.

Character felt a little slow when walking though, and the lack of sound hurts the experience a bit. However, I think you did a great job and there is potential here.

nickykendy 2019-10-18 02:34

@dcrdro @paulo-brunassi Thank you guys~ Got a little faith back HaHa. Sure thing I will keep going~

nickykendy 2019-10-18 02:39

@realitycheck Yeah, the sound and music! How I admire those who made their own in 48 hours, and it sounds so good! Gives me the passion to learn by my own. I'm trying to improve this little game, the art, the control, hopefully add some music and sound. Not for this LD, for my first ever made game :D Thank you, yours words mean a lot!

yonman 2019-10-18 09:05

Great game! The graphics look so good! I love it!

It is quite similar to my game, I would like you to try mine too.

suchista 2019-10-18 14:08

Okay, I played the updated version and the walking speed is still too slow, I can't really maneuver near slimes. The damage from walking off the top of the slime is a bit frustrating. Maybe slower attacks from them would be a good idea, attack animations would be cool too.

Honestly it's not a masterpiece, but this is a good starting point. Everything is pretty much there, just needs some tweaking. Dialogs, mechanics, UI, graphics, there's a lot work put into it. Good job!

nickykendy 2019-10-20 07:25

@yonman Thx! I'm coming~ ~

nickykendy 2019-10-20 07:27

@suchista Thank you~ Through my first LD, I now know what is like to make a game, and what I'm lack of. A platform action genre is not that simple, the move, the attack, the jump, quite a thing to make the overall just fine.
