Quite a nice card game! I encountered a case where I had one fusion core left and got a card +1 fusion core. Clicking that said "you don't have enough fusion cores". A bug or is this expected?

I like card games like these.
Great job. I wish that graphically it had more stuff, such as ships actually firing, but I know how compo is constrained, especially when you have to make an AI.
It did not take much away from the game.
One thing I really want to commend is that the game really feels balanced. Well done!
Great music. Really build an atmosphere! Nice work!
Hey folks, thanks for feedback! @hypp - sounds like a bug :/ @kaisean-games : I wanted to add animations and sound effects - maybe in a post-compo version!
I won  This was cool to play, I enjoy these types of games the most on LD. Excellent job on the music, it made me feel extra retro-y. Overall I enjoyed the mechanics, if you want to make a post-jam version for itch.io maybe, make a couple more cards and add some animations you'd be all set. I'd certainly play that.
A question about the rocket launchers: since they can be countered with flares, is - given the choice - building a laser always a better option?
It depends - lasers are countered by shields and rockets are countered by flares.
Interesting concept and unique gameplay for the theme! At first I didn't realise that I had to click each time to advance the game, so if there was a button or something visual that would indicate this that would be good. Other than that I like it
Interesting Idea, maybe a little more polishment and better card visuals and this can definely be a mobile game.
(But, cmon... you should play other people's games, that's the whole point of LD, you have less than 1 point on rates given...)
This is pretty solid. A postjam version would benefit from a greater variety of cards to play with, and animations and sound effects to provide feedback on what's happening. But the core mechanic is well thought out and balanced.
I really enjoyed this entry despite the confusing UI design and rather dull presentation. It felt like the game was really well balanced, with the AI just barely being beatable. I really appreciated the game taking its time to explain the turn order, improving the predictability and the strategy the player has to develop. That said, I did think some added graphics and effects could have helped what the effect of said turn was (e.g. shooting laser animated the shield number going down).
It wasn't difficult to figure out the one card to play, one card to hold onto concept per turn, but I would have liked to explain what and why the player would want to take these options. For example, I didn't know the AI and player shared the same deck. I didn't know the ratio of how many cards are in the deck, so it would have helped to know that information prior to playing. Lastly, I realized it's possible to end the game with a tie where both the player and AI dies at the same turn; not sure how the game deals with that. Still, I do think it's cool the game was designed with a constantly depleting resource in mind, and figuring out how to make the most out of that situation.

I liked this game! The graphics are a bit barebones and a few effects could notch up the experience a lot. The music was amazing, though! And boy, the gameplay! This game plays really well and after losing initially, I was totally hooked to try again! Great job!
Overall this is a pretty good entry. I especially like that the gameplay loop, the cards and how to play is clearly laid out, something that is quite hard to manage in such a short time for a card game like this. Music is great too. Overall, very well done!
Pretty solid entry! It might not be the best looking game around, but the gameplay is solid and offers a fun challenge. I managed to beat the game on my second attempt and it felt balanced well enough to keep the gameplay interesting. Good work!

I couldn't figure out of it was a fixed deck or Random Generator, but it's plenty beatable without that nuance level of strategy.
This is a nice question: "A question about the rocket launchers: since they can be countered with flares, is - given the choice - building a laser always a better option?"
The Rocket Launcher might be better, since the opponent has to buy a flare, (costs a point), and you have to wear down the shield more than it regenerates, which takes a few turns. But this game rewards a Defense First mindset, and a slow grind.
To all of the people talking about Graphics, not counting some tutorials and clarity, Ludum Dare is famous for Saturday Obsessing over Art, and it would have been a tragedy to have the entire balance off kilter "because worked on Art".
It's pretty fair, and it's nice to know if Opponent Goes First and draws a Double Big Bomb, you can still sometimes pull it back!
I liked the music too, Retro is great and it avoided the "searing Treble" that sometimes drifts into "retro tunes"!
Fun stuff!
Thanks everyone for feedback! Much appreciated!
@taophoenix : It's actually a shared 9-card deck!
You could argue that lasers are countered by shield rechargers, so I don't think one is better than the other.
@mrjoshuamclean : thanks for the link! You are spot on with the inspired-by-FTL guess :)
