I like the visuals, especially the people avatars. Easy mode was a little bit too easy (which made the cannibalistic options a little bit far-fetched, as if the narrator was really into eating people and nudging me towards it). Also it was sometimes strange why they keep eating fruits first. Specifics of the chosen resource management conventions I guess. Overall, a neat game =)

dry-squid 2018-12-04 19:53

Woah! Big surprise. Loved the music and entire feel to the game. Haven't been addicted to a game for a long time. This game is staying on my computer. Also, shoutout to you for using Godot  . Love it, cheers! - All I need now is a save game button (please add  )

sam-minh 2018-12-04 19:55

Very good looking game and soundtrack. The gameplay is interesting but becomes dull quickly. The events really add to the experience with funny dialogue or interesting choices. The UI could is a little clunky and hard to control. The theme really makes the game come together in a overall nice game.

Amazingly executed art, and obviously put effort into the soundtrack! very nice.

I noticed a few bugs. when you decide to eat a party member it says you get x amount of meat but it actually adds twice that amount to your inventory. Also I didn't have any meat to give someone after a scorpion bit them, and that made me have negative meat.

Balance wise, the easy mode was too easy and the hard mode was too hard, mostly because resistance and skills gets too expensive too quickly. I suggest either make higher level upgrades cheaper or buff the upgrades a bit so they're worth the price.

Overall, it's a solid entry. I think there's room to elaborate on the mechanics with more diverse choices and events, and you could have an over-arching story if you want to work on it post-jam. Cheers!

This was a bold game, reminded me a bit of Rimworld. I think the pace should be a bit quicker, the font could be better and for the lowest point was the audio :( A creative and brave entry, well done. 5/5 innovation.

namnam 2018-12-06 15:34

I liked it, a little bit less at the end because it's less interesting when you only have one character, but I played it quite a while. Good job !

aphid98 2018-12-07 02:59

Very well done! If you were to work on this more, I would say giving more action options (ie. Explore, craft, or something similar) and more upgrades. But for a jam, this game was fantastic.

deadlyalive 2018-12-07 09:29

@a333, thank you for the feedback! Yes, they do value meat more than fruits. They only consume it when it's absolutely necessary!

@dry-squid thnx  If we continue the development of this game, I'd be sure to add that option and notify you as well.

deadlyalive 2018-12-07 09:49

@sam-minh, I too think it becomes dull after a while. If only I had more time to add more events! I appreciate honest and constructive feedback like yours. Thank you!

@icegold thnx for bug reporting! They would have probably gone unnoticed if not for you. I had to make a new version of the game since there was also a major bug that made the game completely unplayable on some computers. So, I have actually fixed them now! Thank you for the detailed feedback as well

deadlyalive 2018-12-07 10:01

@namnam try not be left with just one character as it becomes extremely difficult (or impossible) that way! Thanks for the feedback!

@aphid98, I agree! I wish I had the time to do so. With no doubt, having more actions and events would have certainly been a more fun gameplay!

koltonix 2018-12-07 17:31

Not only is space cannibalism promoted, but I really liked the pixel art design of it all and the music was also done really well and pleasing to hear! My only improvement would be to add more events since I felt like I was getting the 'Fire' one quite often.

shubart 2018-12-07 23:20

It reminds me of the game "god will be watching" that i really enjoyed. You can improve it, by displaying near each characters what is its current action. I didn't undestand very well how the food and life decreased (how food is shared among the characters).

nisepandakun 2018-12-08 08:51

Played this game for 1 whole hour without realising it  Great game overall including gameplay, graphics and especially music. All of it sets a fitting mood to the game, and fits the theme well too. I'm keeping this is on my phone for a while until I can beat hard mode...

deathbysnail 2018-12-09 22:56

I got about 30 days in before I decided to stop, yet something about this makes me want to keep playing it. I adore the UI design, especially the text animations, really well thought out. The random events could use some more content - and perhaps allow all the random events to cycle once before repeating them? I ended up getting the same one multiple times in a row occasionally.

Nice job!

deadlyalive 2018-12-10 00:35

@koltonix, haha. I didn't know space cannibalism was a thing! Yes, the events are random, so it's just bad luck that you got the Fire! one so many times. On the other hand there are workarounds to that, but... I wish I had the time to do so as well as to add more events. Thank you for the feedback!

@nisepandakun! I'm glad to hear that! Thanks  (I was thinking of giving you some tips, but I don't want to spoil it for you!)

deadlyalive 2018-12-10 00:46

@shubart Thanks for playing! Well, every night life is lost due to hunger. After that the food is distributed from the most to the least hungry character. They value their meat (cause you can do upgrades with it) more than the fruits and thus they only eat it if they absolutely have to in order to survive! Btw, I hadn't heard of God will be Watching, so I get to thank you also for mentioning it. It does look like a very good game.

deadlyalive 2018-12-10 00:54

@deathbysnail Indeed a random predefined cycle of events (with no repeat) is already in mind for when and if we get to continue this game. As for the number of events, sadly I ran out time! I wish I could add a lot more, the game would have been more enjoyable then. Thanks for the detailed feedback!

lise-carreel 2018-12-10 20:32

I couldn't stop before victory, I wanted to see all of the random events! I loved graphics, even if I would have love to see an evolution of the avatars along time and events. Some sound feedback too, maybe ! But good job, that's a great game :D !

iluvatar 2018-12-10 21:02

Love the mood, however the gameplay was not that thrilling, for which I don't blame you as it's normal during LD jam. Overall pretty Sweet game, I love the atmosphere, music, and overall visuals :-)

elnu 2018-12-10 21:17

WebGL?

deadlyalive 2018-12-10 21:47

@mertios, sadly Godot 3 is buggy on HTML5. I tried a few times, even postjam, with no luck... Sometimes it got stuck at night, other times the popout menu was all over the place. I have to say I'm very disappointed by the engine on that matter. By the next jam if 3.1 doesn't manage to be that stable I think I should switch to Unity. What do you think? Any suggestions on that aspect?

elnu 2018-12-10 21:56

@deadlyalive I've been using Unity since day 0, and although I haven't tried any other engines, I think Unity is a great engine and has tons of 2D and 3D functionality. However, build sizes are quite large, and web builds take a long time to build and load. The WebGL build for my game this LD was 7.8MB in size. That being said, Unity has masses of documentation, tutorials, and built-in functions that make learning the engine relatively easy. You should give it a try! Hope this helps.

deadlyalive 2018-12-11 00:45

@lise-carreel, thank you so much for the sweet comment and the feedback! Evolving avatars is a great idea! As for the sounds, I was planing on adding sound effects but I did run out of time. Thanks

kruemelkeksfan 2018-12-11 02:41

It would be nice, if I could see an indicator for their current jobs near the avatars. Other than that nice game, sadly gets grindy very fast, more variation in events and event effects could help :)
