Looks great except the movement was not working for me even if I hit the arrow keys a-lot

mgoadric 2018-12-03 21:45

Not the arrow keys, but the less than and greater than keys, @bj-pucci I can see how that is very confusing, I just added in functionality for the arrow keys too, hope that fixes it!

bj-pucci 2018-12-03 21:53

@mgoadric I retried the game using braces and its a fun endless runner, It is smart how you have to ether throw away the stuff or go to get it

johnnyginard 2018-12-04 17:45

Very cool idea! Good job! :top:

kirke 2018-12-04 19:29

I love commentary for each treasure held during the running, it shows a story and make good feeling of game! Nice job! I just have a question - is it possible to safe all of treasures? :D

mgoadric 2018-12-04 19:34

@kirke Thanks for playing! You can only pick 3 to start, but you can save all 3 if you time your running right, and go back to pick them up when you drop them.

kirke 2018-12-04 20:00

@mgoadric Yeah, I've managed to save all 3!!! :D

2018-12-04 21:32

I got confused thinking I should keep mashing both the left and right buttons to run faster but i figured it out. It's a nice concept to expand on. This could be a good way to open an adventure game where what you take with you alters the story (Similar to "60 Seconds" or "60 Parsecs")

Well done. Cheers!

tulipekoni 2018-12-05 19:38

simple game but it represents the theme well. simple controls, fast and easy to play through and understand, seems I have to learn something (you'll get my joke if you play our game :D). solid entry, good job!

donitz 2018-12-05 20:09

I randomly ran left every few seconds and didn't seem to drop anything.

mgoadric 2018-12-05 20:21

@donitz Thanks for playing! Good find! I think I need to update the drop timer mechanic, it currently resets each time you move left, but now I think it should only reset when you pick up something. When I tested it, I only ran left to pick something up. Ah, the joys of making a game in a weekend :)

applepicke 2018-12-05 21:27

Cool neat concept! It would be helpful to have some kind of feedback when the items are slipping. Something to let the player know that they're going to fast and need to adjust.

kantieno 2018-12-05 21:32

I appreciated the overall atmosphere and art style! My first playthrough my guy immediately dropped all 3 items and I just kept running right, nothing really happened so I didn't really understand what was supposed to be happening. The second time he dropped a single item and I went back for it real quick and then I discovered the horde!

So I played again understanding the game and was able to save all 3 items! I think this is an interesting base for a game but it needs a little more to it than just mashing buttons. Possibly having more hiding spots that you have to quickly jump in for a moment as enemies come from different directions.

Overall this was a nice entry!

eddie-li 2018-12-06 01:11

Overall very nice. The mood was good and the graphics and audio fit together quite nicely. I think perhaps more mechanics could've been added so that it's not just hitting the arrow keys over and over again. But besides that, can't complain about much more, good job!

zetorama 2018-12-06 01:31

Very atmospheric and great story telling! Probably the run could be a bit more interactive, but when that gang comes closer, it becomes really dramatic. The best mood I've seen so far. Good luck!

mgoadric 2018-12-06 16:25

@applepicke thanks for playing! The exhausted breathing sound is triggered when you start running too fast, I wanted it to be an integrated warning instead of a slider bar on the top. This can definitely be tweaked to be a little more obvious how they are related, great feedback!

mgoadric 2018-12-06 16:29

@kantieno thanks for the playthrough description, this is exactly the user experience I was hoping for! I think I need more feedback that a fast run with 0 saved items is a loss, and some noises/animations when you drop something to indicate the player is distraught about the loss.

@icegold I'm definitely hoping to expand it to some more waypoints and safe houses. Thanks again!

mgoadric 2018-12-06 16:31

@eddie-li @zetorama thanks for the feedback and playing! I'm glad it struck a chord for you with the mood, it was my main goal to get the player invested in saving the items and scared of losing them in a very short amount of time.

minelsaygisever 2018-12-06 17:22

cool idea! love the concept ^^

codesity 2018-12-06 17:23

A cool little game. The Graphics are really simple, but this is ok. The athmosphere is Harmonying with the Gameplay. Good Work!

r3l0ad1 2018-12-06 17:30

Great Game, Nice ideas and gameplay, The idea for the theme is really good, but, you should make the character slow down, not completely stop maybe with lerping or something, overall really good game, well done

mobiledev 2018-12-06 18:02

I enjoyed the environment and the gameplay. Good job!

mgoadric 2018-12-06 20:02

@minelsaygisever @codesity @mobiledev Thanks for playing! @game-coder28 I will try to get the start and stop animations smoother, thanks for playing it on your stream!

akusan 2018-12-06 23:44

I really like the style. It's cool, and the animations look smooth. Great sound effects and ambience. You really hit the mood there. Although I would recommend changing up the gameplay a bit so that player is not pressing right arrow all the time even if it is an obvious game over or fail. Maybe have some hints during the game to pick up your dropped items. Also shorten the duration. It got kinda boring just keeping pressing right all the time. Thanks for sharing your game!

iluvatar 2018-12-08 11:33

I'm really sorry, but I was not able to move at all. I literally pressed every single key on my keyboard, but nothing happens. :( Shame, I like the cute graphics and the sound effects fit well.

mgoadric 2018-12-08 12:50

Oh no! @iluvatar It should be either the arrow keys, or the left and right angle brackets for moving. Were you at least able to pick up the items in the beginning with the number keys at the top of the keyboard? Thanks for giving it a try.

omiya-games 2018-12-15 02:55

This was an interesting experiment. While not exactly "fun," I liked the attempt made to give meaning to the items the character is collecting. Unfortunately, since I was frantically tapping the right arrow key, it was very difficult for me to pay attention to the narrative. I think I would have had a significant connection to the game if I didn't need to remain so focused on the button tapping, thus allowing me to read the narrative a little more closely.
