brings me a message: "The browser could not allocate enough memory for the WebGL content. If you are the developer of this content, try allocating less memory to your WebGL build in the WebGL player settings." See if this is a bug.
@kromeboy Thanks for the feedback! Glad you enjoyed it!
@folex70 Shoot, I think I allocated 1GB of memory for the game, probably way more than this game needs and it may just be maxing out the memory in your PC. I can lower the memory allocation and re-upload later tonight though.
color scheme just killed my eyes xD
i think using UP arrow to fall blocks DOWN is a little weired.
@folex70 Just uploaded a new version with significantly lower memory allocation. Still seems to be working fine for me. Hope you can play now!!
@mgsx Yeah sorry, this was supposed to be just placehoder art, but ran out of time to make anything better :P
I have seen some other Tetris games use this control scheme, so I figured I would follow suit, good to know you found it a bit strange though. Thanks for playing!!
The game seems to be a little to fast at the begining, and the sacrafice part seems to have little to no effect on the overall game.
@arcus I agree, one thing that I would have liked to add into the game is a variable drop speed that increases the longer you play the game. The sacrifice mechanic adds a small amount of interest to the game, but not as much as I would have liked it to, maybe it could work a little better with some tweaking. Thanks for playing!
I'm not very good at Tetris, but this certainly was an interesting spin on the game! Some sfx and music would've gone a long way, as well as Linux and macOS builds (though admittedly the web version is pretty good). Very neat!
I'm not exactly the best Tetris player (have a buddy of mine that's super into Puyo Puyo Tetris that I consult whenever I see insane Tetris shit) but I can definitely appreciate a gravity system. It's not exactly the newest idea around, but I don't think I've ever seen a Tetris game where you can just delete pieces that aren't even necessarily Tetronimoes anymore, but then trigger a gravity system above.
I couldn't test it myself, but I'm curious if you have some of the more advanced stuff included like T-spinning.
Great game, I like Tetris too. Unfortunately I was stuck when I have to choose a piece to sacrifice with only surface pieces. It really misses sound effects, even minimal sounds would have been sufficient.
Interesting reinterpretation Of tetris that fit the theme of the LD43. Well done, it's fun.
@neon Thanks for playing! I agree, SFX, music, and other little graphics/effects would help this game a lot. As for the Linux/macOS builds, I'll keep that in mind for next time
@drevilbrain Thanks for the feedback! I'm super proud of the Tetris engine that I created so I'm glad you recognized some of the cool things I was able to put in. And yes, you can do all sorts of cool things like T-spins and rotation kicks to shift the Tetrominoes into tight spaces. Feel free to check out the postmortem video I did on this where I talk about some more of the cool things you can do in this game. Also I made a tutorial video where I go into detail about how my Tetris engine works and the mathematics behind it all. Both videos are linked in the description of my game. Thanks again for playing
@crazyrems Thanks for playing! You may have ran into a bug where you don't have enough pieces to be sacrificed so the game just gets stuck in that phase. It's pretty rare for that case to occur, so restarting your game should clear that up. And yes, I agree that this game definitely could use sound and graphical effects.
@acaral Thanks! That's exactly what I was going for, so I'm glad you liked it!
Hey - this is a solid rebuild of the classic tetris game. I think this is an unusual approach for this jam theme and the only tetris build ive seen so that is interesting. Also appreciate the vlogs you did about the learning points of making this game.
the cons for me were the lack of sound - the music was a really big part of tetris for me and it serves a purpose of making the game feel more dynamic - especially if it speeds up as the pieces do etc. Similarly a sound effect on sacrifice of a block wouldve given it more impact.
I cant remember the control system for classic tetris (been a while!) but i found pressing UP to drop a piece to the bottom was a little counter-intuitive to me?
these are minor things that could be changed after playtesting though - so well done overall :)
@limnori Thanks for the great feedback, I really appreciate that! Glad you liked the videos as I found it pretty fun to share some things I learned while making this game
Yes, this game could really benefit from just a few simple sound/graphical effects. Unfortunately, I just ran out of time to get some adequate ones in place.
I don't think that in the original Tetris you could send a piece directly to the bottom as you can in this game and other modern versions of Tetris. It does seem a bit counter-intuitive at first but the idea is that you still use the down arrow to step the piece down one unit at a time but then you can press the up arrow to send it all the way to the bottom.
Thanks again for playing!
haha this was a good twist on tetris! All the gameplay works well it's just missing a next piece section. Great job overall though!
@fashionbatman Thanks for playing! Yes, that is one thing I would really like to have had in this game!
