I really liked the special effects when moving around the map. I didn't really get the objective of the game however, perhaps I missed something during the tutorial.

hishicorne 2018-08-14 06:00

@lukewaffel you have to build your nightclub so as every "city builder" game, you should just have "100%" in every variables you see at the top (or have 0% then you loose and can see the bad ending)

el-metallico 2018-08-14 08:41

Wow, pretty complex game, I like it!

hanin 2018-08-14 10:43

This is a really complex game for sure! Didn't think the city-builder approach could work but hey I can be proven wrong haha

This is a kinda silly game but I do appreciate it! Would love to see this sorta thing be expanded towards other scenarios like a police inspection and what not but I am afraid of the whole Complexity Vs Depth in regards to city-builders. I can't say either how it works with the theme as it seems like you have kinda infinite space? Maybe limit the amount of space in the beginning and whatnot, just some ideas.

I think it's a pretty good standalone game with a strong visual identity! Would love to see this expanded further!

hishicorne 2018-08-14 10:51

@hanin thank for this review ! this makes me so happy !! You don't have an infinte space of build but the restriction if pretty big (i thing you can build around 117 rooms, i made a restriction only so the player won't build too much rooms so the game won't lag too much). In fact I included the theme in the scenario in a pretty weird way, you'r community is "running out of space (visibility / space to talk etc) in the society", but I admit it's not a well made link to the theme, and not obvious too ^^'

I like the vibrant art style and pops of colour. I'm not overly into these kind of games but this is a good base game to build on. One suggestion though would be to replace the dialogue sound with something softer. It was a little bit screechy. Regardless awesome work.

hishicorne 2018-08-14 13:08

@dark-prince-zen thank you a lot ! Yes, if I continue working on this i'll do something softer for the voice (like in animal crossing, I think it's so cute !!).

hanin 2018-08-14 13:41

@hishicorne Ah That makes a bit more sense haha I agree it could be a bit more obvious but I think it's still something of merit! Keep up the good work my friend!

Nice graphics, but not really sure what I was doing with the gameplay. I assume this is meant to be some sort of city builder, but it wasn't clear what my objective was, it also took me far too long to realise I could scroll around the city and expand more than what was visible on the screen. The art is nice, but for a game called 'Disco Lovers' the lack of soundtrack really bothered me. The screeching audio over the text at the start was pretty awful on the ears too. I have no idea what was going on with the plot or how it related to the gameplay, but I'm sure I must have missed something important. I struggled to see how this related to the theme of the jam, but you clearly worked hard on this and you should be pleased that you managed to make something this complete in only 72 hours working alone.

Maybe in future try to get some more feedback from people early on, a resource management game like this would also benefit from some paper prototyping to figure out what the core elements need to be.

hishicorne 2018-08-14 20:03

@historymaker118 thank for this complete feedback :) The objective is to expand as much as possible your empire so you can build a huge, great shelter for everyone. Also I couldn't add any music since I didn't got the time for this - and I didn't wanted nor did I thought using "basic" music. Think I could have had added some of Cher's musics...

Also a lot of the plot is related to the gameplay, but it's not always made obvious, once again due to the lack of time. It is clearly the worst issue with my game, i tried to do so much with so much time (and I started late), so if I keep working on this game, be sure i'll rethink everything so it works better for people and is more easy to understand (and more enjoyable).

Again, thank for the full feedback and the advices, I really do appreciate it !

Game was interesting though I have run into some issues:

There was no sound or visual feedback besides the actual messages telling me to build stuff so I was kind of lost there and eventually got one of the two endings, don't know which one though. When I read the title I expected some kind of groovy music so it's a shame you run out of time to do something about it. Also you could build pretty much anywhere so I was kind of expecting a limitation for that.

The idea was good and I get how it fits the theme. The graphics were really nice too and I liked most of the interface and how it was designed.

If you keep on working on the game I would certainly love to see more of it :)

hishicorne 2018-08-15 11:21

@jsd thank for your much appreciated feedback ! I'm sorry i didn't got any time for the music, I actually feel it deserved at list one music, maybe I should have just included a regular disco song from an artist I like, I don't know... And definitely the voice sounds were awful and I should got them removed before building the game.

The feedbacks I got so far makes me want to keep working on this, and I'm taking notes of what you said about how you were lost in the game. If I keep working my first priority will be to rethink the whole learning curve and add graphic indications so it's easier for the player to know how things are going and what he should do

kiirohanabi 2018-08-16 10:34

Hey !

lumpy 2018-08-17 18:00

Fun game! Despite not really knowing what I was doing at first, I managed to finish it on the first try. I get the feeling it was easy overall, kind of the vibe of a first 'tutorial' mission. Perhaps a longer gameloop would make things more challenging!

seconddimension 2018-08-21 20:36

I think you could do some more work on this and make it into something really interesting. It needs a lot more in terms of feedback and easier menus, but it's a good starting point. I though the graphics were great and the overall mood of the city at night was beautiful.

hishicorne 2018-08-22 18:10

@seconddimension thank you for the feedback ! I've been working on it for the last couple of days and think i'll turn it in a full game - already have totally reworked the way rooms works so there is a lot more of visual feedbacks given to the player :) I'm talking about it in the post mortem i'll publish in a few minutes !
