cool

fwuffy13 2018-08-13 03:24

I like your game. It's a bit too easy for me. I would add more enemies in the beginning to make it more interesting.

josh-ayres 2018-08-13 03:25

I felt that I ran out of ammo way too fast, and had nothing to do but die.

madar-games 2018-08-13 03:29

@josh-ayres Have you tried jumping on their heads?

coldfire83 2018-08-13 03:29

Overall, I liked the game quite a bit. Liked the mechanics of having to manage an inventory that can (and will) block your field of view. The graphics were also fun. Only issue was the first firearm (I think it was a rifle); it seemed to fire off in somewhat random directions sometimes. Didn't have the same issue with the handgun.

wavertron 2018-08-13 03:30

Pretty cool. Good use of theme. I really wish there were some sound effects (probably would have been better to spend your time on this than the music haha), as that would have given the game a more responsive feel. Google "Bfxr" for an easy way to generate simple sfx super quick. Also the first gun has horrible aim (not sure if intentional). Good job

tinamil 2018-08-13 03:31

So, it took me until I got a second gun to realize that the bags were supposed to be gunpowder for a muzzle loading weapon, I think that's what they are anyway. Also, if you swap guns with one of the same type (maybe different types, didn't test that), it fires the gun at the same time and wastes a shot.

I really enjoyed the mechanic of putting all your inventory items on the screen to force you to play around them, and quite thematically appropriate.

Is there any mechanic to get more ammunition besides just jumping on enemies once you run out (or because you run out at the beginning figuring out the mechanics?

Zombies could use some variety, or variety by wave 4 or so when I figured the rest of the game was similar to that and gave up.

ilseroth 2018-08-13 03:31

I can appreciate what you're going for, but the core gunplay doesn't feel very good (I recognize that they are flintlock pistols, but when it takes 5 shots to kill one thing it goes from wacky to annoying quickly) and the amount of rampup time before any real number of enemies showed up made me lose interest.

tiberiusuciu 2018-08-13 03:31

My advice is to have more ammo, I would often end up with no ammo. That was my number one problem. Otherwise the graphics are nice :D

madar-games 2018-08-13 03:32

@coldire83 thanks for the feedback! It was a flint lock pistol and it is meant to be inaccurate however at the last moment before building I made it even more inaccurate which I completely regret.

@wavertron I tried to make sound effects but they were also so so bad. Worse than the music probably. And yeah the first gun is really inaccurate I changed it at the last minute for the worst.

smilewood 2018-08-13 03:34

Fun game, I really liked the art and physics of the character running around. I think that idea of having the inventory on top of the screen and getting in the way of the gameplay was fantastic. The music, while it did get a little repetitive, was pretty good, although I wish that there had been some sound effects for the guns and enemies. I liked that you could jump on top of the enemies heads when out of ammo, which for me happened a lot. My biggest complaint about the game would be that there weren’t enough drops, and especially not enough ammo drops. I spent my first five or so waves missing most shots with the revolver then having to jump around on heads for a while until another drop happened. That problem went away around when I got the Uzi, and from that point what I thought of as the real game, arranging my inventory to not be in the way, started in earnest. I thought that this was a really fun game, great submission!

madar-games 2018-08-13 03:34

@ilseroth Ya, after I submitted it I did some math in my head and realized I messed up the wave spawn system. The higher the numbers the longer the spawn time between them. Seems fine. But I accidentally made the time basically exponential rather than log.

@tiberiusuciu Thanks for the advice! I did tailor the ammo to be scarce, but I designed it around me and I got to practice my game for roughly 36 hours. And I happen to know all the ins and outs of it.

alan-lu 2018-08-13 03:50

I enjoyed the different weapons and wanting to see what came next. At first I thought the shooting was wonky, but when I got used to it, I came to realize it was because I was unskilled. Wasn't too keen on the use of the theme though. Still, overall a fun experience.

wheffle 2018-08-13 23:07

I, for one, thought the music was a masterpiece.

I love the dual-wielding, and how your guy rolls around. It has a nice charm. Some audio feedback or screen kick could add weight to the gun shots. The inventory system tied with the theme is a cool idea, but I would always die way sooner than my inventory could ever fill up. Overall enjoyed it, nice little entry!

pennycook 2018-08-14 00:43

I really like this, and I don't think you need to apologize for the music.

As others have said, I think the only problem is that it's a little too easy -- the waves don't come fast enough, so the screen never really fills up. But the idea is a good one, and I had a lot of fun towards the end somersaulting about the place and seeing how many zombies I could hit in a single jump.

flashviper 2018-08-14 02:21

I really like the mechanic of items taking up space onscreen. It is really imaginative, and I never would have thought of it! I don't understand how guns reload, or what the money does. But the cute, rolly character and awesome mechanic make up for it 200%

maakep 2018-08-14 11:23

Cute little game, with a decent concept, but way too easy. I was pretty bored but what kept me playing was that you got cooler weapons by time, which was nice. I stopped playing because it said Zombies: 4 but there were no zombies. I assumed perhaps they were stuck in the sky so I shot all my ammo into the sky at various places, but no luck. (I think this was the level where it spawned 20 zombies).

I'd say around 30 times as many zombies on each level should make it interesting/challenging, spawn them on your spawnpoints that are not close to player!

Great things: CLICK CLICK CLICK - the text showing up when shooting was an awesome addition. The physics when walking/jumping around was entertaining. Dual-wielding the weapons was a nice addition, would have been very useful and strategic if the game was more challenging.

Also, great choice of name - same as ours!

mathiouza 2018-08-14 12:38

Nice little game but I think the concept take too much time to set up. I played like 5 or 6 waves before having too much weapon/amunition. Plus, I lost too much hp because I haven't other choice than jump on zombies.

Nontheless, I really like the way the player jumps. There is also a decent music, so that's ok.

Cool game :) Keep coding :)

teelin 2018-08-14 13:06

I liked the character movemnet and how the inventory takes up space on your screen really nice idea. Was a bit too easy but otherwise i felt it was a good game. Well done

yamiog 2018-08-14 14:56

I thought it would have been a lot more fun if there were sound effects, it was pretty fun other than that! Use this sound making software for sound effect http://www.drpetter.se/project_sfxr.html

aaranos 2018-08-17 16:48

There are a few issues with balance in the game or at least in my plays. The zombies didn't die with the limited number of bullets I had. Some kind of indication of remaining ammo or shots left in the gun would have been nice.

I also did not see a replay or restart button when I died.
