Nice graffics, audio, but the game was boring. I get that you wanted to say something.

The graphics and audio is creating a nice mood, but the game itself is not very fun to play. To make it more compelling you could give players some meaningful choices.
Oh wow, I kinda original to see narrative games during a jam, but damn, you killed it!
The music is perfect, it makes the atmosphere very heavy and dark, graphics where really cool, especially the background who is a great way of environnemental story telling! Great choice of colors too, the blue fits perfectly with the ambiant dark grey, so, good job!
Maybe it was too short, but it's definitely good.
OH WOW! That was amazing. Truly! I seriously have no criticism on this game. The Feel of this game is just stupid Brilliant. Like, You nailed it. Great Job!
@optimatica I agree, and I initially planned to. Unfortunately some things had to go to finish in time, and that was one of them.
@unbonjusdefruits Thank you for the feedback! It definitely took a lot of hard work to get everything in before the deadline, and honestly I'm surprised I even made it. ^^
@ratherjolly Thank you for the very kind words.
Just wow... this game was perfect. I almost feel guilty for wanting more. Best entry for me so far.
BRAVO
Glad the guy could come back, I wish there was an open ending and you continued the game, trying to save people, or maybe entering and exiting to help them, man that was inspiring. Great job.
@manusaiz I'm glad you enjoyed the story! I don't know if I'll revisit this world in a future game, but it's interesting imagining where the story would go next if I did.
That's a cool interactive story with great mood.
@sebbernery Happy you liked it!
Beautiful graphics, nice story line, short and simple.
To be honest I'm surprised at the story. You'd think that people would hear about what happened inside, somehow.
Then again, getting this done in a weekend is Well done!
@g12345 Thank you! The story definitely has some plot holes. :P
Really great little game. I played it on newgrounds and it is really cool ! Well done !
Hi there! It looks like your entry uses third-party assets (music) that you didn't create yourself during the jam.
This is fine, but in accordance with [the Ludum Dare rules](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/rules), **you must OPT-OUT of the respective categories, since it would be unfair for you to be rated based on work that you did not actually do during the jam.** You can still change this setting now.
Quoted from the actual submission page (which you should have read as part of the submission process):
> **Opt-out of categories here if you and your team didn't make all your graphics, audio, or music during the event. Many participants are making original graphics, audio and music from scratch during the event. As a courtesy, we ask you to opt-out if you didn't do the same.** Also, some games are not meant to be Humourous or Moody, so you can choose to opt-out of these too.

That all aside, this is fantastic. It's quite difficult to create a cohesive narrative arc in a short timeframe (speaking from experience), so even though there no fancy branching paths or anything of that sort, this is still really impressive. A bit of a "Vanilla Sky"-type setup, so it's not a crazy original plot, but I don't think it has to in order to tell a good story.
The narrative did leave me wanting a bit more in terms of...how do I say this...development and closure? Sorry, that might not be clear, but what I really mean is, I think the story you told was quite interesting, but I think I wish there was some deeper message and/or conflict that I was left with at the end, to contemplate or think about. Not that the current story is completely devoid of meaning -- I think it hints at various things, like "paradise is too good to be true", "value what you have", etc. but I think I was craving a bit more. Totally subjective opinion though, and not marking you off for that because I don't expect it from a jam game. Just wanted to give my honest opinion as an artist. (You could also very well have planned much more but couldn't manage to fit it all into the game in time)
The mood was quite great here, obviously, but I'm also very happy with the graphics and composition ("cinematography"?) here. I think some people may simply look over your work and say "oh it's just some crude pixel art" but really you have put quite a lot of detail into the environments and the palette choices work quite well to really make the scenes read clearly, which I appreciated. Not to mention the subtle camera smoothing and such -- these are things that some people probably wouldn't notice consciously, but really makes the experience feel polished. The scene outside of the Paradise Inc building is especially gorgeous -- love the use of values and layers to create a hazy effect for the background. Also liked the duality between the real world vs "Paradise". The time you spent crafting all of these scenes really paid off.
Amazing job!
Really nice game. The graphics reminded me of Flashback or Another World, very cool and set the mood well. The music was nice, I liked the change of mood when you get to Paradise. The story was a bit short and predictable - I get that there wasn't enough time to make a longer story, but since you don't get to make any decisions, it's a bit unsatisfying. I'd love to see this fleshed out a bit more - perhaps some explanation of why Paradise isn't what they hoped for. Also, I didn't really notice the people in the background in reality on my first play, so it felt like there were more people in Paradise - maybe there should be more people in the apartment building at the start to really push the "running out of space" theme. Overall, great job!
It's always good to see story-based games in Ludum Dare, and this one in particular has a very engaging (if slightly predictable) storyline. There's also not much in the way of gameplay, but I'm not sure what gameplay there could have been here that wouldn't have detracted from the story. I'd definitely like to see more of this.
It's interesting that we both chose the topic of overpopulation crisis but thought about different solutions and made games in completely different styles. I really like the cinematic feel in your game and I think the game story is quite thought-provoking. IMO the Paradise can refer to many things such as Virtual Reality Technology and immigrant countries. I wonder what you really want to convey. Moreover I think it would be better if you can reveal more information about why people transfered to the Paradise feel regret. However it's already impressive enough considering you've made such an engaging storyline in such a short time. Good work!
@corbak Thank you for playing, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
@ddrkirbyisq Oh, you're absolutely right about that rule, I guess I missed it... I've gone ahead and opted out of audio. And I definitely understand about the ending of the game, that was the part that got crunched the most from the time constraint, since I spent so long on the beginning.
@andy-d Thanks for playing! I definitely intended to have decisions or at least some sort of interactions in the game, but of course those had to be cut to get everything else done in time. I also agree that there should have been more people in foreground of the real world!
@f1krazy Glad you liked it! I'll definitely be doing another game in this style sometime.
@atom0520 Yeah it's always interesting to see how a similar concept can lead to completely different results. There were definitely a lot points I wanted to cover that didn't make it in due to time constraints, but I'm glad it turned out coherent enough!
Thanks for understanding and being a good LD citizen! [high five]
