Was very easy at first and then things got real hectic! I liked the music, it was kind of creepy.

eric-kulbiej 2018-08-13 00:29

The theme is astounding. I like the graphics as well. Keep it up!

ephoria 2018-08-13 07:17

I like the game art it's really polish. The idea of the game was nice. But I did not understand at first that there were two conveyor belt and also that sometimes I did not know if the object was plastic or not.

Good work.

emanuele 2018-08-13 07:25

very cute. the prhases that appear when you wrong are Amazing. i found only some imprecision on the mouse track

svenardocom 2018-08-13 07:41

The atmosphere is great. Player movement is spot on. The source code is excellently structured and I love it to bits! However, the game itself is kinda boring. You pick up stuff and then you dump them in one place or the other. There has to be more to it if you want it to be replayable.

jens 2018-08-13 07:49

@svenardocom Thanks for the feedback! Yes, I agree with that the game is quite boring, I had big plans for it but with the time limit I didn't manage to get all the things in that I wanted. I wanted the "processing" of the different trash to result in new items to be created that had to be put in some other place. For example if you burn something with metal a metal bar would be created that would then be moved to recycling. While wood would have created coal that could be used for something else. :)

jens 2018-08-13 07:54

@emanuele Thanks for the feedback! Yes, I've noticed some imprecision when you try to leave the trash on the conveyor belt, is that what you found as well?

svenardocom 2018-08-13 07:55

That sounds cool @jens. Would love see further iterations of this game :)

emanuele 2018-08-13 09:31

@Jens yes, it exactly that. sometimes i need to click more then once to put object on the conveyor belt

xcvzxc 2018-08-13 17:12

Music and title of this game creates some "magic" atmosphere. 5 in mood cetegory imo

hegemege 2018-08-13 17:25

I think the controls would work better with pick/drop on keyboard. Doing it with mouse just doesn't really add anything, and I found myself trying to click on the objects but they were too far away (there was no way to tell really)

I liked the mood, fitting music + visuals. I got a bit spooked by the alarm at first, I tried to pick it up :) (perhaps a bit too loud)

I didn't really see any progression in the game. It would be cool to have some way of managing the items like stacking multiple of the same item on top of each other or something. The ending was a bit crude too :D

jens 2018-08-13 17:32

@hegemege Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, a way to pickup the trash with the keyboard might have been better. I was going to add a check for the mouse over effect so it wouldn't show unless you were close enough to pick it up but ran out of time. The alarm is way to loud, I got so used to it during development so I just missed it. I had more plans for the game, but ran out of time. See earlier comments about some of the features I had to skip.

jakub-kazimierski 2018-08-13 17:35

It starts a bit boring, but after while it become challenging. I like the art style. However, I music can become annoying.

zinski 2018-08-19 13:53

I really enjoyed the visual and sound of this little game! I think with some additional interactions to vary the gameplay the game would be even better! In addition, it should provide enough to create a challenge for the player more important as more incinerators that unlock! Great job!

mothas31 2018-08-28 09:47

Very cool work, nice music and graphics

amras0000 2018-08-28 18:26

The sound effects were what ultimately drove me away from this game, but it has a number of frustrating issues.

The core design requires very little strategic thinking from the player, and the core gameplay loop of walk-to-trash, walk-to-output gets tiring really quickly. Maybe a focus on rearranging the trash area would have worked better. Maybe a certain pattern of trash or recyclables could cause them to disappear, or maybe you'd need to operate a lever to make the falling trash/recyclables fall into the right output.

TVs and gameboys can't be recycled as plastic. They contain a lot of copper and gold wiring that - if you want to recycle them - needs to be disassembled before you can sell the casing off for remolding. Rubber ducks are sometimes made of synthetic rubber, but I wouldn't be comfortable throwing them in the plastics category either without some additional context. I don't know why you didn't just use plastic bags, plastic bottles, plastic cutlery, plastic food containers. Things that are unambiguously plastic, instead of making the player guess...

Especially with nothing to go off but a low resolution drawing, you need to make things more clear if you want the player to sort your items.

The sound effects got to me the most, though. Every few seconds, I'd get a horrifyingly loud, high pitched, and distorted screeching blasting out of my speakers. It's far louder than the music which is the thing I'm hearing most of the time. How did you not get annoyed by the sound while playtesting this game? It drove me nuts within a few minutes of play.

I really don't want to be this harsh. This isn't a lazy game; you've created a lot of assets for it and polished the lighting and movement controls. But I also want to be honest in a review, and the experience you've provided me with is frustrating. I'm sorry.

Nice art!

jens 2018-08-29 13:52

@amras0000 Thanks for your honest review of the game. I agree that the game is quite boring, and no real choice can be made by the player. I had a to big scope and had to cut a lot of the stuff I wanted to add before the time ran out. If you read some of the earlier comments you'll see some of the things I had planned.

Just before I published the game I got the feedback from a couple of friends that it should have said something else instead of plastic, and the TV/GameBoy was added in the end because I had to few "plastic" items.

The sound effect of the alarm is horrible and I should have fixed it.

You shouln't be sorry for writing a good review and what you actually think, I appreciate it and I will definitely improve for my next Ludum Dare :)

I'm glad you like the graphics and movement, I probably spent a bit to much time on that, but I'm happy with the outcome.

Thanks!

Great art, nice sound and screenshake effect ! It's hard to see what item is plastic or other at first... Like the bottle for example

psychead 2018-08-31 08:07

Good job on the graphics and the mood of the game. I feel the game has a distinct atmosphere about it that I liked. One of the best Compo games I played so far in that regard. Like others have pointed out, gameplay quickly becomes tedious as it is always the same action you repeat. Additional gameplay elements will easily break that monotony though, if you decide to keep working on the game. Also, while the alarm sound was annoying, I didn't experience it as *that* horrible. I think it added to the atmosphere of the game. All in all, well done!

nihilaleph 2018-09-01 02:04

Nice entry! I will be just repeating what had already been said but...

Pros: - Great assets (the alarm was actually fine for me) and mood! - Control are very fluid (though I also think it's a bit weird to pick things up with the mouse)

Cons: - Repetitive mechanics (specially by the end where there is no trash coming down anymore but you still have to throw everything), maybe a survival mode?

Obs: Wasn't really sure what some of the object is (the blue thingies), so I just tried plastic and it worked  Also who was the architect of this place? Such a big area with no use, and conveyor belts so far from the trash... :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Cheers!

manimal 2018-09-01 14:39

Nice entry, the player movement is smooth and actualy I will explore your unity project because of that. Just add more rulles to classify a garbage. Awesome music.

local-minimum 2018-09-01 16:27

Cool idea. It was a bit confusing with some stuff like a TV that if you picked up, there seemed to be no relevant space to place it. And as some others have discussed, it was a bit slow and repetitive at the same time. So one way I would go about fixing that would be to make it more of slapstick, having the character run around at full speed knocking around stuff, grabbing and throwing whatever, more chaos and mayhem.
