nice game, although I'm still a bit confused on what these "safe zones" are? the only one I can seem to find is the one near the ship. the graphics look nice, but it is a bit jarring how empty tiles are just simply black.

bloodjohn 2018-08-14 03:43

interesting idea

I really liked the dual factors of the shrinking world as well as the world vanishing as I walked. It made me plan my paths carefully which is cool and different. I'd really like if there was some way of slowing down the black holes, as they prevented me from living long enough for my path choices to really affect me too much. On stream I suggested maybe throwing the crystals into the black holes helps slow them down, and I still think that would be an interesting twist.

I have take 11 crystals! Yeeeeeeeeaah. ahhhhhhh!!!!!no, blackhole, no!!aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!

benbonk 2018-08-14 18:49

Interesting concept but I ran into a few bugs and it could have been a bit more polished.

chandymande 2018-08-14 23:55

I loved it, the game play was soo engaging, but the goal was a bit unclear :P, i still enjoyed it so much

webthingee 2018-08-15 21:44

I thought I was killing it... then i realized that in addition to me removing land... it was closing in on me... lol. Good Stuff! thx!

happyhour 2018-08-16 17:44

It's a direct and to the point interpretation of the theme, but it's well-executed and very easy to understand overall. It took me a few tries to realize I needed to activate the ship and take off, but the core mechanics of the shrinking/destructible space were easy to comprehend. Good work to everyone involved!

joltjab 2018-08-16 17:54

@edmanbosch yeah we should have made it more clear what areas were safe and which weren't. We ran out of time. The black tiles seemed a little jarring to me too. But I wasn't sure how to change it. I think Latch (one of my teammates) liked it though, so I didn't push very hard to change it. Thanks for playing and the critiques!

@bloodjohn thanks dude!

@aevek we actually had plans to add the ability to slow/stop/reverse the blackhole. We had plans for a bunch of stuff! But we couldn't get to them in time. Maybe next time we can work faster.

@shiracha yeah you go... oh no! You were very close to tie-ing with (as far as I know) the highest score for the game!

@benbonk a few bugs? What bugs did you come across?

oh hey thanks @chandymande ! Glad you enjoyed it! The goal was to collect as many crystals as you can and escape in your ship.

@webthingee oh yeah, hahaha! We should have added some way to show there were blackholes closing in on you.

Thanks again everyone for playing! It really means a lot!

Super elegant design and fun game, it is dynamic but makes you think every step.

PD: I was a bit confused when I got my 7th crystal, It looked like I couldn't carry any more crystals?

Anyway super solid entry, great job!

tom7 2018-08-17 02:38

Pretty fun. I got 13 crystals. It might be possible to get a few more but it seems like you're really limited by how fast you can move and by how much of the border of the safe zone gets destroyed! You could imagine ways of keeping the game going longer -- like maybe you could detonate the crystals to recreate some ground near your ship. On my first playthrough I died unexpectedly... I didn't know I was supposed to rocket away on my own! :)

Seems like the controls could have been simpler: Why do I have to press space to pick up a crystal? Wouldn't I always want to pick it up if my hands are empty?

I liked the music especially. :)

tigerj 2018-08-17 15:37

@tom7 how many times did it take you to get 13? I am so jealous. my best was 11 (which should have been 12) This game was addictive and fun. I had a blast. Here it is on my stream: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/298453024?t=00h35m52s

tom7 2018-08-17 22:59

@tigerj I think that was my second try. First try I didn't realize it was going to destroy my ship and I needed to take off! :)

latchgamedev 2018-08-18 15:25

@manusaiz Thanks for playing and the kind words. As for the issue you ran in to about not being able to carry more crystals. That's unfortunately a bug that was found after the jam.

@tom7 As for "Why do I have to press space to pick up" You are absolutely right and I will be adding auto pickup in future versions.

@tigerj Thanks for playing and all your feed back. It's always fun watching someone enjoy something I had a hand in making.

@Everyone I'm planning on working on this project every Saturday and putting out a new build Sunday. Feel free to follow the development at twitch.tv/latchgamedev

So it turns out that you need to press space to pick up crystals? OK so I played this for quite some time and it seems like both WebGL and Windows versions handle picking up differently. I love the soundtrack and the art direction. The idea in general is OK, it is basically a snake with shrinking map. There's also a meta game of collecting crystals, but ultimately there is no goal except for "don't die", which is quite easy, as you can leave at any time - no penalties, no rewards. But I see where it could be going. I think that probably the scope for this game was too big to handle and the essential parts of the puzzle are missing, as I sense that, clearly, something else was planned and it was not delivered. However, my general experience was quite pleasant. Absence of a tutorial is also a bust, reading text is not quite entertaining. Cheers! Fun game and a little addicting game! Saw it on stream Akouo Studios stream first so I guess it made it a little easier for me, but I got 11 on first try!

Could also be fun with a leaderboard/highscore! :)

Awesome work overall!
