This is impressive and unique. When the timer started I felt a sense of urgency that I didn't expect to. I like how it starts, and I played it again several times making different choices and wasn't disappointed in any of the story arcs I found. I think the mood and intrigue you've created with this is really good. Also I'm proud of you for sticking with it and finishing your first Ludum Dare in 48 hours. Excellent work!

This was actually really good! I wasn't expecting a 48-hour game jam story to be as interesting as this was. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it, and played it three times. The game was great, but like @memedev0 suggested, some more development before the bomb is necessary. Overall, I'd give it 4.0/5.0. Great job :smile:

Loved the timer effect and the story but man oh man, the color choices were actually painful on my eyes after a few pages.

I love the timer effect! It made such a huge sense of urgency when reading haha. My game is actually a novel like thing as well. I just wish the colours were better, as it started to hurt my eyes after a while >.<

I really enjoyed the concept and playing this interactive story. Well written :) Would love if there were some visuals included, but I get it that you needed to focus on the story and the different paths. Great work!

I've never played a text game with a timer mechanic like this before. I've played text games with burndown timers to re-enable some option, but never a "you have x seconds to live" sort of thing. That makes this unique. Unfortunately it had the effect of making me try to speed read the rest of the way through the game, to hope that I could find somewhere safe that I could avoid death, and so I skipped over most of the text. Some actions that could have added time back to the countdown would have made it feel more game-like.

I don't know how I feel about the setting and the story. I feel like the Civil War is important enough that anything done with it that isn't very well researched is going to make me feel uncomfortable -- even when I watched Lincoln (the movie from a few years ago with Daniel Day Lewis) I found that I couldn't enjoy it because the entire time I watched it, I couldn't help ask myself "Is this authentic? Is this documented? Is this misleading? Is this revisionist?" and I don't know my history well enough to say for sure for everything, but it took me out of the film and kept me in analytical mode the entire time. This story is obviously nowhere nearly as researched as a serious film about the Civil War period, of course, but I still felt uncomfortable as I read it. I'll chalk that up as a "me" problem, though.

@csanyk Thank you so much for your feedback. I agree with you completely. To be honest, I didn't do hardly any research at all before writing this, I just kind of jumped right in and used the background knowledge I had. I understand you being uncomfortable, I get irked by weird things too, and if I ever rewrite it, I will most definitely do some research. ;)

This was a lot of fun! I like good Twine games, and this was a fun marriage of historical fiction and sci-fi. An interesting (if only momentary) look at slavery during the war, and then when shit hits the fan, the timer did an excellent job of creating some stress to move you along. Really enjoyed this one! Text was hard to read due to coloration, so maybe check out https://material.io/guidelines/style/color.html. :smile:

Interesting take on a game, i liked it, but I got really stressed (I haven't decided if I think it's good or bad :-)) when the timer started to count down.
