This was really amazing! The way of uncovering the grid to find enemies or treasure is so simple yet it feels so good! There is only one thing I am not so sure of, how is this a card game? Anyways, keep up the good work!

Hi!Let me first thank you for the comment! I'm glad that you like it! My idea was to create a grid by cards. Let say at you have a deck with enemies, floors, upgrades etc and at the beginig of a level you place them on table. What is in the deck depends on the level. So (for example) after first 5 there are new enemies and every 10 levels there are some bosses. That is exacly what is going on there. I'm not a graphic, and because the lack of time i did not do a great job to show grid elements as cards, as was planed.

Firstly, congrats on your first ludum dare!

This game is cool, love the idea behind it. This is a nice and easy game to pick up and start playing, I didn't have an issue with any of the controls or rules. It wasn't until later that I realised there's no disadvantage to not picking up health/hearts (I thought it filled you back up to full, so I would leave them until I cleared out some enemies) but it actually gives you more health on top of what you have. (I think it's because I assume health potions in games just refill life and don't usually give you additional life) There's also quite a few typos in the text, like "healt", "whant" and "attacknig". This might count as being nitpicky since it doesn't actually take away anything from the core game (I also didn't notice the typos on my first run of the game), but might be cool to proof read text in your game if you have the time for it. One nitpick I have is it would be nicer if the game music length was longer before it looped, it's just a bit too repetitive imo.

Hope this feedback is useful in some way or another

Thank you! It is useful! I'm aware that i made typos, unfortunately most of them I've noticed after upload. Next time I will do proof read before upload.

Hi there, I love rogue likes! I went ahead and just fought everything I could and made it through 7 floors. Others already pointed out grammar so I won't mention it! Since it was rogue, it could have used some negatives in chests/floor pieces besides enemies to help with decision making. Thank you for the fun.

Nice old school fun. Well executed concept and easy to understand and play without much help at all. That is quite an achievement for a dungeon game with console. It's simply beautiful in its simplicity.

I like the crazy music, and the main game board has a good clean look! The info panels on the sides are sometimes a bit hard to read.

It was a bit hard to distinguish what was a good strategy - having all of the tiles be obscured also meant that there were less interesting decisions to make in regards to movement.

Happy first LD ! I have the feeling the console can be replaced by buttons. The game is fun

The game despite appearing simple was actually really fun. I didn't really get the card game aspect of it, but it felt like it got rid of most of the drag of rouge games and got right to the action. Great first LD.

@wallie This is super impressive for your first game! I really liked the music and audio, and the graphics were pretty clear and consistent. I didn't get the vibe of "card game" from playing until I saw it in the description -- it felt maybe more like a slower form roguelike game with a menu interaction system. I can see the potential though for a post-jam version with deeper card game integration, like having a stock of cards to play with various attacks, spells, etc. Really great game and congrats for making something that feels solid & complete!

I’m not sure if you were able to see it, but I played your game on my stream at https://www.twitch.tv/saoigames tonight.

I"m not sure how innovative the idea is. Its basically a visual version of zork that helps you track the information better. What might have worked is to have all the movement be text based. Moving North, South, East and West. and interacting with the text on the side. Having a way to ping to get the health stats would have also been nice instead of having them constant on the side. You may see int he stream that I figured out that when I saw a monster I'd rapidly hit 1 enter 1 enter until I could move. I wasn't reading the text and it just made a new way to do combat by spamming an unusual button combination.

Your game also reminded me of Diablo and other explorations. However it was hard to read the RPG stats on the side. I didn't notice them for most of my play-through, and missed out on gaining experience because I didn't explore a floor fully. If you do keep the stats on the side panel, I would suggest improving the font and background color contrast so that it is more obvious how the stats are changing.

I played this game for too long. I'm just a sucker for growth and advancement style games. One thing that I noticed though, was that the health pickup became absolutely obsolete. Instead of increasing with the dungeon level, it stays a flat +5 health. While this is helpful, after level 13 I was losing health every floor with no way to regain it, which made playing further seem pointless. Other than that though, this was a lot of fun. Great job!

Thanks for all responses! Because of you people I decide to try to develop second version of this game. Based on yours reviews and ideas what I have. You are awesome! LD also :D
