LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

BINGO FUEL by LancesCaterpie 2018-04-24T18:27:58Z

I'm incredibly bad at this game but damn if it's not incredibly fun at the same time. Took me some time to get used to the grapple in mission 2 but it really adds a lot to the gameplay. Made it a lot better once I realised I can hold space without any repercussions, so it's best to take your time with it.

I'm not sure if I'm missing something but after quitting the game and starting it again the first mission is forced on the player. Even though there's a menu, clicking anywhere will start the first mission again. Super small thing but makes starting the game again kind of awkward if you want to just play either of the other two missions. (Either that or I'm doing something wrong)

All in all though, super fun game to play. One of the few difficult games which isn't irritating when I make mistakes. Great work!

Really awesome game. The swarm really comes across as a big ball of nope so really good job making it intimidating through art and sound. Cause of this the mood of the game is really good and I'd say it's better than the graphics (which are also really good). I feel like the controls are a bit floaty though to be honest. There was tons of times I was trying to fall down 1 block width holes and I kept floating over them not being able to fit through. Same goes with trying to avoid jump pads, sometimes I'd try to squeeze past them but end up accidently just hitting them and getting killed by the swarm. So sometimes it felt like I was fighting the controls a bit. I feel like if the controls were tighter and less floaty then this game would feel a lot better to play (if that makes sense).

Rhythm Overdrive by Diblow 2018-04-24T21:49:25Z

Really nice graphics, specially the particle effects going on. Some constructive criticism, this game is really good like so don't think of this as me being negative towards your game: Although the enemies move to the rhythm I didn't think it really impacted the gameplay enough to be a gameplay mechanic since you can just hold left click and hope you'll hit them anyway. That and they seem to move left or right randomly on beat so it's not something you can predict too well, so might as well hold left click all the time. So to me, it didn't feel like a rhythm game, just a game where the enemies dance to the music in a really awesome way. I feel like if rhythm was implemented to the shooting more, or impacted the overall gameplay more, then it would be more fun. Even having the ship constrained to grid movement rather than having it floaty might also help that "punchy" precise feeling from rhythm games, but not sure about that idea tbh. This is being super picky like, great job on this game overall, the overall polish is insanely high quality.

Into the hell by wallie 2018-04-24T19:02:52Z

Firstly, congrats on your first ludum dare!

This game is cool, love the idea behind it. This is a nice and easy game to pick up and start playing, I didn't have an issue with any of the controls or rules. It wasn't until later that I realised there's no disadvantage to not picking up health/hearts (I thought it filled you back up to full, so I would leave them until I cleared out some enemies) but it actually gives you more health on top of what you have. (I think it's because I assume health potions in games just refill life and don't usually give you additional life) There's also quite a few typos in the text, like "healt", "whant" and "attacknig". This might count as being nitpicky since it doesn't actually take away anything from the core game (I also didn't notice the typos on my first run of the game), but might be cool to proof read text in your game if you have the time for it. One nitpick I have is it would be nicer if the game music length was longer before it looped, it's just a bit too repetitive imo.

Hope this feedback is useful in some way or another

Cool game, love the aesthetic. I feel like the speed/difficulty shoots up a bit too quickly round about 60 but that might just be me.
