O hi mark

firewill 2017-04-27 03:07

Just beat this, it was a fun game, when it comes to constructing obscure puzzles I'm quite good at it, so I must say I enjoyed your puzzle, once I solved it everything clicked into place, and I can see what you were going for, but many things were just not apparent enough.

I can see you had to downscale, all too familiar :P I REALLY enjoyed the rooms design, even if its very simple I think it has some African/Arabian vibes, and handling statuettes felt very old school. If you like making these kind of games I suggest either using a framework or polishing this one to use next time, so you can spend more time designing and less coding basic features.

@firewill Thanks for checking it out, I know the puzzle was a bit too obscure, i'm making some fixes to the text and the size and position of the object in question, to make it less obscure, especially on some resolutions, along with a gamebreaking bug fix.

I'm sad I had to downscale, but as you guessed, we didn't have any of the systems to work with, so we made everything from the ground up, which took up most our time. After the jam, will definitely refactor and polish up the code, and add the rest of the puzzles in. Hope you will return to see the progress :D

Thanks for showing this off in my stream earlier! The game is pretty decent but its pretty unclear you are supposed to look at the floor for the password. Don't know what you would do about that but thanks for sharing it!

silvertwig 2017-04-27 16:05

@drazil100 No problem, thank for playing it, it was good to have feedback and an actual playtest. Along with the fix for the gamebreaking bug, I adjusted the rug size slightly to be more noticeable, and reworded the end of the riddle. Hope you'll return when judging begins :D

Great effort for a jam game. Managed to figure out the puzzle and escape the room. Really clever use of the shadows for clues, haven't seen a puzzle like that for quite some time. Music and atmosphere were both great, I think my only complaint would be that it was perhaps a little too easy to solve, then again I have played a lot of these in the past so perhaps certain conventions are more obvious to me than the average player.

Aaaand came here to leave my rating. Very well done.

This was a really cool puzzle game for such a short time. The simple graphics work in its favor. The controls were simple and worked well, although some indication of what's clickable and what isn't would be a nice improvement if you intend to work on this further. Great job!

Well done, graphics are simplistic but match the genereal atmosphere of the game. Puzzles are intuitive and at right difficulty level. My only problem was with shadow numbers, i mean it crossed my mine that i need to look at them from specific perspective or how they cast shadows but clicking at rug didn't work for me at first. As you mentioned, you made rug bigger but there still could be some indication that you can look down. Other than that i don't have any complaints, very pleasant game to play, good job!

Sweet, I love escape rooms. These were some nice puzzles. Not too difficult, they had just the right amount of A-Ha to them. It would have been nice if the rest of the puzzles would have made it in. Great job. as @zeriver said, the only reason I found the rug is because I read about it in the comments before playing. I'm not sure what the solution is, but it would be good to find something.

Interesting quick puzzle game, I like the fact that one has to actually use the information given in the story to advance in the game. I would appreciate some kind of feedback if I try to use something and it does not work. For example I tried to use the puzzle pieces with the canvas and wasn't really sure if I had selected the piece, if I had to drag it over, if I should select the canvas first, etc. Anyways, I am looking forward to the addition of the remaining puzzles :)

Some clever puzzles in here, nicely done.

Some things I really liked: - Version 1.1 felt complete - The mood and atmosphere are great - A unique interpretation of the theme

Room for improvement: - The allowable user interactions could have more clarity - Adding more elements in the room would make the solutions less immediately obvious - The camera controls/movement felt a bit clunky. It would be nicer to be either more free moving, or have all fixed views.

d-studios 2017-05-12 22:57

The game is good! However I think that there is still some more room for improvement.

1. The look around controls were a bit strange. Have arrow keys be used for look around. 2. When interacting with an object, text generated way too slowly and played a sound effect that started to kind of annoy me.

EDIT: For some reason, my comment is glitching and making this look like a sample of code. I don't know why it is doing this.
