Well done!
Quite a lot of different mechanics for a "simplified" game!
Hi! I just played your game, here are a few critics.
* there are a lot of different mechanics for such a small game. At first those are nicely built upon each other (press the button, then push the crate on the button, then push the crate on the button with a twist), but the light level completely erase that. It is way too hard and does not rely on previous mechanics, and feels rather out of place, to be honest.
* the music feels too much "action" and does not quite fit with the puzzle/reflexion game, it's rather tiresome, especially considering that the levels require more and more thoughts processing.
* the theme feels a little pasted on the concept. In spite of the weird tunnel bringing us back in the same room, it does not feels like the same room, with the layout being wildly different
* there's a hint of a scenario, but way too vague to serve a real purpose. I guess you had something bigger in mind but couldn't fit in such short timeframe.
* controls are smooth, but I find it annoying to have to switch between keyboard and mouse for movements and dialogs. Also I use a french keyboard, and WASD is not my primary choice, so I would have liked using the arrows better (especially since the mouse is not really useful).
Apart from that the game is nice, with simple but clear graphics and objectives. The best part was the nice mechanisms build-up through the levels. That's also why I found the last "lights" level so disappointing.
I played on a Linux 64 and everything went smoothly.
Also, there's a small bug in the lights level: when you press 'R' to restart the room, if you stand on a switch at that time the lights around that switch won't reset. It's no big deal, but having been stuck there for quite some time I wondered if I had to use this bug to finish the room. :]
Nice work over all! Good job!
Really cool puzzle game, but I think it just starts off much too difficult. I could have played for hours if you gave me some easy levels first and slowly made them more challenging
Polished entry! Always awesome to see an LD entry with menu music. I liked the looping puzzle room conceit. That light puzzle was friggin' brutal, though!
Main thing that annoyed me was moving around felt a little uncontrolled. I think this is mostly down to the fact that the movement was tile based but the character APPEARED to move continuously, so it felt unnatural to let the button go and have the character keep walking to the next tile. Some kind of brief pause between tiles or a slight colour change on the currently active tile might alleviate that.
I like puzzles, but, as lertsenem said, there are to many different machanics. Anyway, thanks for this entry!
Fun little puzzle game. My Lights Out skills from earlier in life sure came in handy here! The shifting room was a neat way to make this fit the theme.
The game was sort of fun, I had to look up a solver for the last part, as it was much harder than the previous puzzles. The ending was also funny.
Oh, nice take on the theme! It feels kinda unbalanced, but I think it's a nice way to handle the theme! And it has the right mood too! :)
But I think it's better if you add progression little by little, instead of tossing that light level right in 3rd :P
Cheers! :D
Honestly I'm way too retarded for these kind of puzzles. I capitulated after ten minutes of wrestling with the lights, constantly almost getting it and ruining it all over again.
I don't know what lies beyond that, but for me many different mechanics are a good thing in a puzzle game. It makes the gameplay feel less repetitive, and forces you to constantly think in a different way. Think of Portal for example; the puzzles are generally built around a single mechanic, and it gets stale quickly.
The interpretaton of the theme was interesting, but the transitions should have been smoother to convince the player that it's really the same room.
Props for a dead simple and working Linux build, not archivized in a windows zip.
Nice!
