Well done for adding a story, but it really needs some sound effects, and perhaps changing the movement keys to WASD?
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD32 → no. 55

Well done for adding a story, but it really needs some sound effects, and perhaps changing the movement keys to WASD?
First of all, thanks for playing :D
I'll try to explain why I've decided to use cursor keys instead of WASD and why the game has no sound.
WASD has some problems with some keyboards (AZERTY keyboards and Dvorak). I've used cursor keys because I didn't have the time to deal with these issues. Moreover, they are the only keys used in the game besides the mouse... so i think that is not that unconfortable.
About sound... I really love well done music and sound effects in video games. Sound and music are really important for immersion and mood.
I had two choices for audio: record sounds myself or use some self-made retro videogame sounds. I didn't have enough time or resources for the first solution (firearms sounds are kinda rare :D) and I didn't feel that retro sound effects would fit the mood of the game.
Moreover I'm really unexperienced with audio and music in general, is something I need to work on in the future.
A solid attempt. I like the attack move :) Could use some sound effects and a bit more content, like a second attack or another type of enemy
good one.
bit easy, needs some challenge
Yes, my biggest regret is about content actually. I'd like to let the character evolve getting more knowledge of itself, both physically (new moves) and psychologically (maybe it's not only a rampaging brute?). Too bad I didn't manage to do this in the deadline :\
Anyway, thanks for playing and sharing your thoughts!
Cool attack mechanic! works really well with the vision system, feel like pouncing on the enemy. Would be cool if there were more attacks/levels. But what can you do, its just 48h :)
that escalated quickly, both about wanting to kill them all and about ending the game XD i like how i can kill 1 person while dodging the other's bullets. would totally play the completed version if you ever plan to make it =)
interesting start - I liked the visual style, very stark and clear but very atmospheric. Bit short.
So quiet, effectively :p, and I don't take damage, a bug ?
Thanks everyone for playing and commenting :)
@Tipyx: Never happened to me, can you tell me what browser did you use?
Nice concept! Very simple and yet rewarding, also the story is nice! Music would have been a good addition! Also it's a bit short and i feel like i wanted to know more about the story.. poor frog...
Well done game ! it's a bit hard to move the first time tough..
Game looks good, and I like the idea. Was a bit tough to play with the trackpad on my laptop.
The game didn't feel very challenging, though, and it didn't really grip me and keep me wanting to play.
Despite the complete and utter silence of the game, I loved it! The story was cool, and BEING the unconventional weapon felt pretty flippin' awesome, too. One of my favorite parts of the game was the scientists who slowly back away from you, begging for mercy. I let some live, others not so much. That kind of pointless choice that a game gives you adds a lot, actually. One of my favorites so far!
Some sound would be nice, and the controls are a bit clunky (some more feedback on when I can/can't move, some way of changing how far I move would be nice) but otherwise surprisingly fun. Would like to play more :)
Lol to the guy saying to use WASD, I've been telling every WASD the opposite, to switch to arrow keys for exactly the reasons the dev gives.
Anyway, I loved this game. It's not got a lot of content, sure, but the little it does it does well, and with style. There's more of a story than most games I've seen, there's a consistent theme, the mechanics are smooth and enjoyable.
Admittedly, I've already spent more time writing this than it took to play the game. But still.
@drakekin: I think I know what's wrong, a friend of mine playing for the first time had the same "problem". You are supposed to move with the cursors keys and use the mouse click as an attack, not just moving by clicking :)
@cgmorton: I lol'd at the last sentence, above all because I know that it's NOT a joke XD
Thanks for the good words anyway :)
Not bad, but i can become really hard when there is a lot of enemies
It's a very good entry and like every one else, it's too bad there is not more content. Be happy we tell you that we want more contents, it's mean that your game was good and we would have like to play it longer ;)
Really nice presentation! Some ambient music would have been perfect to improve it even further. Also, enjoyable and responsive gameplay. It was easy though, as I seemed to be invincible. But maybe that was the point? Nevertheless, well done :)
haha nice one! :) It remembers me "Altered Beasts" for the attack :D
I didn't really get what I was and what it was that made people die. I was a ...frog?
The attack move does feel powerful, which is nice. I also like how enemies are hidden but still sort of visible in they're far away.
@Timo: Yes, some sort of hopping toad-like creature. It may sound weird (and it is), but is some sort of reference that will become clear if I will develop the story further. At this stage of the story is all quite unclear because the protagonist himself doesn't know what is happening to him. There are just some clues around which probably are not enough to get the full picture (or may be badly depicted by me).
Anyway, I think I'll do a post-LD version. Surely won't happen during these 3 weeks of judging, I would feel it like trying to influence people with something that doesn't belong to the LD challenge.
Thanks everyone for playing, it's something that somehow amazes me :D
Pretty good - obviously audio is missing. Nice idea well executed... Are you supposed to kill the humans who are peaceful also? Would love to see additional levels.
The silence took away a bit from the atmosphere and the game was short and easy, but I loved the graphics and art style.
Nice work! Great Game!
Things I like:
Introduction;
Menu;
Animation;
Graphics;
Things I Dont like:
The lack of the WASD option;
We have to set the direction with the keyboard, but the attack is made in the mouse position.
Nice job, congratulations!
Good feeling of power. Maybe I'd prefer your work more on the fight system instead of the narrative, but anyway, this is a good compo entry
I would like some indication of my life. At first I was scared but later I wasn't really concerned with the enemies. Nice entry though :)
@nonetheless: When you take damage you character fades out. Also enemies silhouettes and text become more and more faded.
Good intro and mood. I found it easy and short, but enjoyed it, good job.
I love the dark mood provided by the story and the graphics. Interesting attack move too.
The story adds a lot to this. I think it begins with an interesting hook which goes together with the gameplay. But then the game kind of just stops.
Still, shows that you have skill in crafting an interesting scene :)
Really neat story! I almost felt bad killing the scientists. I included it in part 12 of my Ludum Dare 32 compilation video series, if you would like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/m_vzNeNUn1c
