It's cool to have seen it growing through the past two days. See you at Isotop, next time. :-D

Nice game! I would have preferred a bit faster movement for the player and the enemies, and it became very easy after obtaining the first and second bonus shots. But I had a good time, and it would be interesting to see where it could end up in the future if it was to be further developed :)

I liked it! Good and humoristic idea. Well executed. I made it to wave 32, so maybe it is a bit too easy?

lyxilion 2015-04-21 08:44

We almost make the same game ^^ Well done this was fun :)

(After getting second upgrade) I AM PEAR, HEAR ME ROAR!!!

monkeedude1212 2015-04-21 20:43

I feel like someone wanted to make a space shooter but didn't know how to make that fit the theme :P

But as far as gameplay goes, it's pretty solid! Good graphics and audio.

I remembered to wash my teeth.

gafblizzard 2015-04-21 21:00

I was amused by how with tons of gun upgrades, this game basically became a reverse bullet hell by wave 20-30. Enemies were barely able to get on screen.

Cool game, reached lvl 51! Missed a little a background audio. Good job!

orangespikygames 2015-04-21 21:12

Simple but fun.

Spread gun! First space shooter I've played this LD. Nicely done and there's actually a bit of more to it than just holding down the shoot button.

Technically the game seems to run great despite the high numbers of bullets flying around, which is very important in a game like this.

Would've really loved to have music to go with the blasting though!

vilcans 2015-04-22 20:26

Ah, nice, a traditional shooter. I love powerups!

dreadzilla 2015-04-23 21:04

Thanks for allt he feedback!
For those asking about background music. There actually is a tune but it seems I set the volume too low, and it stops playing after a while (bug).

While the game works from mechanical point of view, it is just a regular shooter with sprites replaced by something related to the theme - hey you even have regular explosions. I think the idea of a shooter with cakes and sugar is good, but the mechanics and graphics should do better job at supporting it - enemies could explode into small candy bars, you could protect innocent teeth from onslaught of sugar and pickup toothbrush powerups... Or thinks could just become stick by contact with sugar...

gigitrix 2015-04-23 21:40

It's not that innovative, but it's well put together! Gameplay feels smooth, and enemy movement patterns are interesting. It's a shame it gives so many powerups to render the enemies powerless after a while...

Would be cool if the level scaling gave the enemies multiple hitpoints so you can't just cheese them as they spawn onto the screen :)

ld_lan_party 2015-04-23 22:02

Nice fun vertical scroller.

deadbodyoutline 2015-04-24 04:39

"the cake is a lie :) I think you can improve the idea and add more weapons to the game, in the terms of the jam :)

cdgugler 2015-04-25 03:46

Nice take on the theme and good ambient music. It's a little slow at first but picks up once your weapon gets upgraded.

tommislav 2015-05-08 06:54

That pear becomes incredibly owerpowered once you manage to stack up a few power-ups. All you have to do is stay at the bottom of the screen and keep the space bar pressed. I think it could have been interesting if each fired melon caused you some kind of penalty... making it both good and bad to fire such huge blasts.
Anyway, well done. Hope to see you in future LDs! =D

Thanks for all the valuable feedback!

The programming language and most of the tools were new to me and I had many plans for the game. But as LD veterans have told me, you start boldly and then just cut away features until you fit into the deadline!

I hope I can make the time to implement some of your great suggestions.
