Map props to the person who finishes this!

catchthefloaty 2014-12-08 10:03

for some reason the last branch is blocked by walls that arnet on the map. cant finish it.

leaden 2014-12-08 10:11

Are you kidding? I went through the whole maze by looking on small dot on map and on finish line I found wall that not marked on map. http://gyazo.com/46d682efa87f090045c1d40d3f80bfa6

If you combine both, you get a top-down maze with awkward controls. There is fun to be had, but map covers the camera's FOV and the look controls makes reading the map unwieldy. I think there is potential here, but I would only give the player a section of the map while walking around, like a folding paper map, requiring them to stand still to view the whole map. With a more visually interesting maze and notable landmarks to orient lost players, there is the something there to be worked on. (I believe Far Cry 2 did something similar with their in game map.)

So, it's actually easier if you never look up at all.

silii 2014-12-08 10:42

interesting :)

@catchthefloaty & @Yaroslav Kravtsov, oops, sorry! it seems that i forgot to recalculate normals before exporting the model. I hope i fixed it now.

@Ken Scoot, thanks for the feedback!

lisac 2014-12-08 12:35

Cool :)

davidb 2014-12-08 12:42

I spend 90% of the time to look at the map, and ignoring 3D view. Nice concept, I longer need to try to implement it.
I didn't finish the game. Too long, maybe create several maps (small to bigger) to increase difficulty.

el-pepi 2014-12-10 02:47

The concept is kinda nice, the execution is not.
The first person view is pointless, it would of been cool if it added something, like things that aren't on the map.
You should of have added an extra camera so the map does not clip through the walls, and some sound too.

peterthehe 2014-12-10 17:57

It got boring quite quickly. Nice concept though

jacksendary 2014-12-10 22:39

Not really too funny

urbanlogicgames 2014-12-12 10:11

As others have said, this is an interesting idea but execution needs a bit of work. Definitely worth expanding on this idea though. :)

sushin 2014-12-12 10:14

Very interesting but i need something to chase you or anything to do more difficultly the game.

mrbadivan 2014-12-17 15:47

Deal with it=) I mean - I finished the maze=)
Nice game)

mindcake 2014-12-21 00:11

Sadly, the map doesn't work... but good execution of the maze. I always had trouble making those.

01rafael 2014-12-21 00:56

For somebody who really like the mazes.

donovanwu 2014-12-21 03:45

If there are some objectives added, it will be more interesting, otherwise people will probably just look down at the map all time.
By the way, the looking-down-and-see-map mechanics actually reminds me of Dreadhalls, an Oculus Rift horror game where you have to look down to see the map.

Lucariatias 2014-12-21 11:59

Interesting interpretation of the theme, however unfortunately it really isn't that fun to play through. There is no music, no variation in content (just paths... lots of paths)
The projection mechanic is neat, but not something that hasn't been done before. It sounds like I wasn't the only one who just used the 2D map (since you can see the entire picture) with the awkward control system, with a Win95 screensaver going on in the background.
I forced myself to finish it, and I didn't really feel rewarded.

Suggested improvements:
Add something in the maze to change things a little. Vines to climb with a second layer, enemies, tunnels, something interesting.
Add some music
Add some sound effects - footsteps or something. People really underestimate how much they add to a game.
Add more content. Just the one drag of a level with no variation isn't fun.
Add some sort of narrative. For this type of game, having a voice explaining some sort of story or something really adds to the depth of the universe.

lparkermg 2014-12-27 16:41

Definatly liked the game, though it would have been nice to be able to select the map size.

But all in all a good game.

mach60kas 2014-12-27 16:43

A-maze-ing entry. Puns aside, I wasn't really sure how it fit the theme, but it seemed okay enough. Some audio and maybe decorations in the map might have been nice - there was no compelling reason to ever look up from the map. I wonder what else you could do with it; surprise us! Keep it up. :)
