Apr 20 18:24:54 Smoke Operator ♥ 1 Managed to beat it with a score of 74! Anyway, this was really fun!! I'll admit that the initial difficulty threw me off a bit - those horrid vultures! - but once I got used to it, it was great! The highlight for me was the second area, really loved the vibes there, and the levels in it were really good! The boss fight was also awesome, I did not see the Angry phase coming and it was a lot of fun getting used to its patterns :) I also super appreciate that dying only healed it a little bit and didn't restart the fight! The main smoke mechanic was pretty frustrating at times though, especially against the vultures & the boss. It was really hard to defeat the vultures without dying, and even when I managed it, a stray egg usually killed me anyway afterwards. With the boss I think it had some hitbox issues, a lot of times it looked like I hit it but it took no damage, while in others it took damage for seemingly no reason. Lastly, I actually loved the fan level and kinda wished this mechanic returned once I figured it out, but was completely stuck there initially and needed your hint in the comments to complete it - maybe adding it in a dialogue there would've helped? Other than that, the graphics, writing & music here were all super awesome - especially in the second area again, loved the lighting!! Overall really cool entry!
Apr 20 19:00:58 36m 04s Highest in the world ♥ 2 Couldn't become the fastest in the world, but still managed to be the highest at least :) aa.png Anyway, this was super funny! I really enjoyed a lot of the jokes (and using signal as the messaging app!), and especially the levels were a surprise each time - my favourites were hell (Ludum Dare is dead...) and the moon - really didn't see that one coming! I also loved how the enemies changed slightly in every level - those tiny horns! - such a small but awesome touch! The gameplay was really cool too, I liked the mechanic of the higher you go, the faster you complete the level - especially for speedruns! I think the first level was actually the most interesting in that regard, as you had to get on top to reach max signal as fast as possible, but also balance going down in time to not waste a bunch of time in the hallways. Some levels were pretty tough too, like the moon with the enemy spam on top, but still fun! Overall really enjoyed it, hilarious entry as usual :)
Apr 20 19:43:28 42m 30s Winnerman Scams a Game Show ♥ 2 Went for the TAS, it wasn't 100% frame perfect due to the last segment taking away my tools (how dare you!!) but I'm happy with it anyway :) bb.png Anyway, this was super awesome! I really loved all the writing & voice acting here - especially the internal monologues, complete with an anime artstyle shift! - and obviously the entire concept of time traveling to rig a gameshow was amazing! At first a frame-by-frame timeline felt like overkill, but once the gambling part came along I realized its true purpose :) I'll admit that I never even tried aiming at the duck, going for the host's head from the beginning. Anyway, that was super fun, especially the boss fight (although it took me way too long to figure out what to do)! I'm a bit confused about the basketball segment, I couldn't find a way to do anything yet always won anyway? Maybe it's on purpose for the throw pun, but still a bit confusing. Other than that though, awesome concept, awesome characters, awesome minigames - just really good time all around!
Apr 20 20:34:29 51m 01s Signadle ♥ 0 I'm pretty sure the game is endless, so I stopped after round 9 :) cc.png Anyway, this was fun! I liked the idea of randomly pressing buttons to see what works and what doesn't until you get it right, and all the different buttons to press, dials to turn, sliders to move etc. were really nice! The objectives also added a ton, making the game way more interesting when aiming for specific ones instead of just always perfects!! Although sometimes, the reward was lower than simply perfecting them instead (eg. 5 purples for 17 points), making it feel a bit bad. Also, the later levels were definitely too much for me and I found myself struggling to perfect things, not to mention chase objectives, and it got a bit repetitive by the end. Still, up to that point I had a lot of fun! I also really liked the graphics and sound effects here, definitely added to the vibe. Overall, very nice entry!
Apr 20 20:44:16 9m 47s Signal search ♥ 1 Managed to reach the end of what's currently in here! Honestly, I really liked it! This was such a cool gimmick, especially when you added the horizontal signal manipulation! There were also definitely hints of a further story here, I wish you had more time to complete it... Although I can't imagine having to match signals every single time you want to talk to a different person is very convenient for the occupants :) But even for what's here, the main mechanic felt very good & polished, and I liked the art and sounds! I did get a bit lost at the beginning, but after just talking to everyone I managed to progress. Overall, pretty cool concept!
Apr 20 21:10:33 26m 17s Trot in the Poly-verse ♥ 1 I'M FREE!!!! dd.png This was super hard for me, but so awesome!! I really loved the main mechanic, it was super cool, and you kept finding new, interesting ways to use it! Like in the third level, where you wanted to intentionally keep your signal low to follow the precise narrow bridges - loved it! All of them were great though. I also really liked the graphics here! The difficulty was heavily frontloaded, though - although a big part of it I think is that I'm not used to inverted camera mouse controls (I always invert it (like the invertion(you get it I hope)) in games), and constantly lost the camera due to my opposite muscle memory - I know it's hard to find time for it in the time limit but I'd really love a toggle for this! It also took me forever to understand how to beat the second level - it felt like the tower on for eternity and I kept running out of signal blocks - but once I did I really liked it! I also wanted to complain about how slippery you were with max signal, but level 3's gimmick completely justifies that :) The one upside of the difficulty is that winning felt SO good - I was so happy once I managed to beat it! And it was never ragequit or unfair difficulty really, mostly my faulty camera muscle memory kept killing me :) Overall, I had a ton of fun, thanks for this!!
Apr 21 19:08:40 21h 58m Pyre Lookout ♥ 4 Managed to get everyone out of the fire!! This was super awesome! I really really loved the writing here, made me laugh so many times! I failed almost every check, which made most situations even more hilarious :) But when things got serious, I managed to get the two-people-per-helicopter regulation from Phylis, which felt awesome ~~(even if I don't think it altered the ending in the end)~~! The characters here were all great and had a ton of personality, I especially loved Cliff (Clyde?) the mystery toilet man, hilarious concept :) And the ending definitely had a ton of tension, I really dreaded having to pick one person to save (although it would've definitely been my fellow frog lover Jayda), but luckily Scott bailed me out against all odds. Just amazing writing all around, one of the best stories I've ever experienced in a jam game!! The rest of it was really good too, the music and graphics matched the story perfectly and added a ton to the experience. The moment when the fire got serious and the entire background (both visually and audibly) got filled with it was so cool! It was also really polished all around (the UI felt great), which I definitely appreciated. Really can't think of any feedback, amazing entry!
Apr 21 20:13:35 1h 04m INTERSIGNAL ♥ 2 Couldn't beat LCStark's score, but pretty proud of what I managed nonetheless :) aa.png Anyway, this was fun! Took me a bit of time to get used to it, but once things clicked, they were very fun! I especially enjoyed gradually discovering strategies, such as intentionally keeping the three-noise-generated signal as backup for only when I absolutely needed it or intentionally placing noise signals to move the cursor one step despite it reducing score in order to match up the rest of the signals (initially I didn't understand why was that even possible). I also found the star balance being pretty interesting, with blue being very rare (and thus valuable) compared to something like yellow, which could be increased pretty easily. I did find the RNG pretty frustrating here, though. Maybe I'm just bad at it, but it always felt like I hit an unlucky streak eventually resetting my existing signals or (more often) just not getting enough of a color. One attempt, I spent pretty much the entire game using only the pulsar and trying to maximize blue, yet still got under 20 of it in the end! I'm not sure how one would solve it - if there's not enough the game becomes too deterministic/easily solved, I know - but right now it felt like I was more hoping for good RNG than strategizing :( Nevertheless, I still had fun, and played it for half a dozen attempts or so! The ambience was nice and I really liked the planets in the computer screen too. The UI was surprisingly intuitive once it clicked, but I wish it was a bit cleaner where you're at at times (eg. your current cursor location being more visible, perhaps showing where will it land when highlighting a new signal instead of having to constantly count tiles, displaying your current scores at all time etc.). Overall though, again, I enjoyed it! Very nice entry!
Apr 21 20:29:41 16m 06s Pulse Escape ♥ 1 The first time I got close to beating the wall, I was greedy and tried reaching the furthest distance possible at the same time. That was a mistake and I died foolishly, but hey, at least I got a high score! bb.png (afterwards I beat it properly with no shenanigans) cc.png Anyway, this was fun! Having to constantly move, jump, shoot, and send pulses at the same time was definitely tough for me, especially since pressing F felt very awkward to me - I wish I could've done it with right-click or control! Although at the same time, it was the biggest source of difficulty for me and made it harder to just spam all buttons at all times :) I did really enjoy this though, both when going for furthest distance and actually beating the wall (which took multiple tries)! The graphics were simple but cute, and I especially liked the pulse effect! The death messages were also fun :) Overall, good entry!
May 6 02:08:56 341h 39m Signal Hunter ♥ 1 I have completed the mission!! Anyway, this was pretty fun! I really liked the gameplay & vibes here, the robots looking so similar to the barrels made for excellent camouflage :) I also loved the intro sequence mentioning dropping the gun only to actually find it on the floor once the game started - awesome! Like a few other commentators, I had trouble with shooting, so I found myself bravely running away the entire game. Still, that was fun in itself, and definitely intense - I barely managed to reach the ending with a measly 8 health remaining! Just really cool vibes all around. And making everything yourself with no engine is super impressive! My main nitpick is the lack of feedback for most actions (getting hit, shooting enemies, etc.), but otherwise, really nice entry!
May 6 02:37:54 28m 58s Connect the Universe ♥ 1 Managed to reach level 16! Couldn't beat the record here but the later levels were just *so* hard... Anyway, this was a lot of fun! I'll admit that it took me forever to understand how the game works - reading it again, the controls clearly state you need to be hovering a planet for it to transmit signals, but for some reason that was super unintuitive for me. Sill, once I got it, the game was great! I spoiled myself by reading Deng's comment when trying to understand how to play, so I followed their strat of following one signal at a time and it worked really well :) Still, it was very far from easy, especially in the later levels! 15 was the highlight for me - having to follow the signal for the entire bottom-right circle, only to eventually return to the very beginning and then do the entire left side much more smoothly was super cool design! It did take me dozens of attempts and I hated it at points, but it was *so* satisfying finally completing it :) I did have some pain points though. The main one was the lack of ability to view where will the signal travel to from each planet - it did add an element of memorization to the game, but with so much going on already it felt like too much to me. The other thing is that it was super easy to just barely miss hovering a planet, especially the small ones, and that always felt bad. I feel like slightly extending their hitboxes, or maybe keeping a planet hovered until you hover a different one, would help immensely. That aside though, I still had a lot of fun, and am pretty happy with how many levels I managed to beat :) Overall, very cool entry!
May 6 03:01:12 23m 18s WORK FASTER ♥ 1 I got crushed :( tt.png Anyway, this was really fun!! The concept was hilarious, and I really loved the design of the level! The conveyor belts were great, and I loved the security cameras following the packages on them - such a neat little detail! The game itself was really fun in general, having to find the label for each package, double checking a dozen times with the forbidden list (and still getting some wrong), panicking that I got the input/output wrong or the generator stopped working - super intense all around (in a fun way)! The constant threats in the background music really contributed to that feeling as well :) Just a really cohesive and cool mood all around! I do feel like some things could use some more player feedback - the only way to know if the generator stopped working or I got a package wrong was to constantly watch them, and the game just felt way too hectic for that. I wish it had an SFX or a bigger visual impact or something. But otherwise, this was really awesome! I loved it!
