Apr 25 09:27:50 Salmoning Time ♥ 0 The game is hilarious and the voice acting is very well done! Very fun presentation and take on the theme too! As others have said though, I felt the timings were too tight. I tried to SALMON, I really did. But every time I actually got my blessed fish friends to appear, they didn't stick around for long. The road to becoming a SALMONER is certainly longer and more painful than I anticipated! If you get to make an extended post jam version, I'd like to hear more SALMONING songs!
Apr 25 09:48:21 20m 31s Phoenix Delay ♥ 0 Very clever idea for the theme! Kind of sad that my wizard had to wait 2:57 for the phoenix to show up, but oh well! The graphics look great and the overall look of the game is very cohesive and professional for a jam game. The speed effects are nice and effective, and when the phoenix picks up speed, the player really feels it. The difference between the obstacle types wasn't clear to me at first, but I like how hard it gets to dodge obstacles when your speed increases. There was pretty much no downside to dashing though, so I would suggest making dashing the default to simplify the control scheme a bit. Good game, I enjoyed it!
Apr 25 10:21:12 32m 51s The Adventure of Seeker ♥ 1 I was expecting something more akin to standard turn based battles, but the dice mechanic makes the entire system deceptively complex! Took me a while to adapt to it and start winning battles. I do wish there were ways to heal after a tough battle though. All it takes is a few unlucky first turns and your poor knight friend goes from hero to zero. The moving bar could be slightly slower for more lenient timing too. The game looks simple at first glance, with charming art like an oldschool MMO, but it's way more elaborate than it looked. It's a lot deeper than most jam games, very nice work!
Apr 25 10:48:38 27m 26s Swordmancer ♥ 0 Trying out new recipes and spawning new types of enemies to fight and farm made for an interesting game loop! Sometimes the drop rate seemed abysmal though, haha. Trying out different recipes with the summoning circle is cool and very in line with the theme, I just wish there were more hints to keep it from being guesswork. The combat is simple but hard! I ended up dying more times than I can count. The enemies are faster than the sword swing animation and very lethal when they are all close together. Some invincibility frames after getting hit would be nice to avoid losing all your HP in one go.
Apr 28 04:26:51 65h 38m Arcane Ante ♥ 1 I quite enjoyed the game! The art for the characters is quite charming, haha. There is a lot of strategy involved, like adding cards to hands deciding which cards you get next, which enemy to attack and when to finish the hand, etc. It does take a round or two for the gameplay to click, but when it clicks, it really clicks. I was able to reach the big 1200HP enemies twice, but couldn't DPS them down in time. My highest score was about 2450-ish. Not enough to beat Fizzlebeard, but not bad I guess. I like the idea of a shop to improve the deck, but in practice the new cards didn't show up regularly enough and didn't have enough of an impact in the battle when played. Well, that could also be skill issue on my part. Also, excellent job designing and building the entire game in just two days! The dialogue in the game was entertaining as well.
Apr 28 05:06:43 39m 52s Ritual of the Meek ♥ 1 This one had me scratching my head for a while! It's a really clever game, but I sadly couldn't manage to beat it. There's a lot of backtracking for the right platform, and while you feel smart when finally grabbing an ingredient, the shuffling and moving between platforms to drive it around can get repetitive. Honestly, I think separating the game into smaller stages instead of the open world with map approach would work a little better, but that's just me. That would also suit your room-based camera more as well. That said, the graphics are simple but very cohesive, and the puzzles are very well made. I also like the audio feedback while using the platform movement ability. This feels very polished for a compo game, superb work!
Apr 28 05:37:57 31m 14s Summoning for 2 ♥ 1 Very interesting take on a card game! Playing for both you and your opponent is quite a twist! That said, I feel like we should be able to not play a card as well. Summoning for your opponent is cool when you can set them up for failure against your better cards. But when they happen to draw stronger cards than you, it then feels like you are helping them destroy you, which is not a good feeling, haha. At some points I wish I could just discard one card rather than play it on the field. I couldn't get through the third opponent though, so maybe I just didn't build my deck right? The art on the cards is pretty cool, and the fact you can buy cards and build your deck is awesome! I think some sound effects on certain actions would give the player some good feedback during the game. Visually separating your hand and the opponent's would be nice as well.
Apr 29 00:07:46 18h 29m Witches Brew ♥ 1 I have to say, so far this is the most visually impressive game I've tried out in the jam. The level design is simple but works very well, and the mood of the dark forest feels great, with a good amount of small details to keep it visually interesting. I had fun with the dialogue as well! I didn't have any issues with controls or collision, so the search for the ingredients went by very quickly and smoothly. I only there was more of a challenge aspect to it! Even without tricky puzzles or riddles to solve. Like having to go through a small maze for one of the ingredients, or finding an obstacle like a boulder and going back to find a tool or magic scroll to get rid of it. Could be an option to expand on the game in the future!
Apr 29 01:37:31 1h 29m Circle of Life ♥ 3 Very enjoyable game! The summoning effects and the art for the summons and enemies are all super cool, great job! Due to the lack of clear information, it felt like I was summoning at random for the most part, but it does feel good once you start getting better creatures on the field. While I didn't understand the mechanics for summoning very well, I have to say that arranging crystals to summon works well to make the auto battling aspect of the game not feel like you're just watching the creatures fight. The whole experience is quite satisfying!
Apr 30 03:28:43 25h 51m You Have Been Summoned ♥ 1 I really like the art style, it works very well for the game. The story was short but pretty good, makes me wonder what would happen to the main character afterwards. My only complaints would be the lack of audio (which is understandable), and some typos here and there. Nice to see a Ren'Py entry too. Good job!
Apr 30 03:52:59 24m 16s Divine Harvest ♥ 0 I unfortunately also ran into the issue where every crop stops growing after playing for a while. It's a simple game, reminds me of those older flash games where you mostly do buying and selling to earn more money. Very interesting that the game was made using web technology rather than a game engine, always cool to run into completely different entries in the jam. If you could explain the game rules a bit more in a tutorial, added some music/sound effects, and put more objectives aside from simply earning more money, I could see this becoming quite a fun timewaster.
May 1 05:09:03 25h 16m Summon Island: The Robot Pirate Invasion Was Today?! ♥ 1 Fun game! The graphics are nice and the game has a good sense of progression, with the invasion getting more intense as time goes by. I wasn't a fan of the small game window, ended up clicking out of the game a few times while the enemies kept attacking me in the background. The camera sometimes went too fast and hid the young wizard too, preventing me from aiming or seeing where I'm going. Aside from these small issues, the gameplay experience was smooth. I would like being able to deploy summons more easily though, having to walk somewhere to place the summon and only then starting the timer felt weird. My most successful run was deploying the Final Shield at the beginning and just shooting down enemies until winning the game, haha. Felt like going summon-less made things easier somehow.
May 1 09:45:09 4h 36m First Summon ♥ 2 Cute game! Some of the riddles were a bit tricky to figure out, but thankfully there is no harm in making small mistakes. It's cool to see the familiar you summon, even when you end up with a weird combination! I rather like the art style and the graphics are charming. The conversations were enjoyable too. I just don't get the point of the QTE, was it to give it a small extra challenge? Great job!
May 1 10:12:42 27m 33s Cards of War ♥ 1 The artwork on the cards is great! I kept drawing cards and attacking then advancing the turn, and only my monsters were getting destroyed. The game looks very interesting, but I couldn't figure out how to defeat my opponent's monsters and damage them after several turns of trying. The graphics and audio are solid though! We made a card game as well, and I know it must have taken a lot of work to get it up and running. Maybe you can write a small tutorial to help me better understand the game rules?
